I know better than to try that after that last time with the blowtorch.
Jul 23, 2024 19:22
@JourneymanGeek Indeed, there's a lot that needs to be done. But I'm back to watching from the cheap seats.
Jul 23, 2024 15:19
/me finally figured out how to unbolt the mod hat. I think they used thread lock on those things.
Jun 14, 2024 14:00
@Criggie lmao. That almost feels like malicious compliance.
Apr 11, 2024 17:32
It could always be policies that don't update with new hardware: mastodon.social/@nixCraft/112084612189308888
Apr 10, 2024 20:17
This is the way.
Mar 11, 2024 14:23
@Criggie Closed and reopened twice now. lol. I don't think anyone running the site is listening to the community anymore.
Mar 4, 2024 14:49
Yeah, I hear you. It's hard to watch.

/me resists the urge to flag the post as "not a question"

Q: Degraded Stack Exchange network performance on February 27th?

Giacomo1968Subject should say it all, but overall the Stack Exchange network has been very laggy (so far) all day today, February 27th. I am connecting from Brooklyn, NY, USA is happening on my home ISP connection (Spectrum) as well as my cell service provider (T-Mobile). I am not using a VPN of any kind; d...

SE is having issues today (or at least was for me this morning)
Feb 5, 2024 14:33
I'd say home water heater problem diagnosis and repair is on topic.
Feb 5, 2024 14:31
@bertieb Immersion heater in a tank... is that a tank like an aquarium or the home water heater?
Jan 31, 2024 17:48
"Thank you for calling, for the anger management hotline, please press ########...."
Jan 21, 2024 15:20
My standard procedure with my battery charger is to jumper the positive terminal of a good battery to a bad one to get the charge high enough that the charger will recognize it. But I do that with the charger unplugged.

If the site is blocked for you, that might explain the failed image embedding.
Jan 18, 2024 15:00
@FreeMan I'm pretty sure it was a joke. The linked picture is of a post. (ba-dum-tss)
Jan 17, 2024 16:16
@Criggie you jinxed it. :D
Jan 17, 2024 16:15
@FreeMan He's a mod on bicycles.SE, but the diamond follows you on the chats. We haven't added any new ones on DIY in a while, but it may be due.
Jan 16, 2024 00:46
"I'm seeing stars" in this chat. :D
Jan 16, 2024 00:45
Similar, I really wish there was a switch to perform activities without the mod diamond. Binding actions can be way too powerful sometimes.
Jan 15, 2024 15:16
I added the status-review tag on the post per the linked instructions. Hopefully that is all we need to do.
Sep 29, 2023 13:59
@Criggie I'm annoyed that people keep calling in the mods to delete the jokes. There were some good ones, including the imperial / metric joke that I wanted to make.
Jan 16, 2023 01:51
"What? They asked for a switched outlet"
Jan 3, 2023 21:16
Only place I've seen feet on a countertop before was a boat, and there it was by necessity (tiny cabin), not by choice.

I've got the tire changing kit, a multi-tool for all the hex nuts and screw drivers, a change of batteries (for the lights), but I didn't have an extra shifter cable that day. Fortunately where I ride, worst case would be a bit of a walk followed by a Lyft pickup.
Dec 4, 2022 16:38
Wow, that's definitely more broken than mine was. I just had a cable snap on me, which made for a much slower ride home in low gear.
Dec 4, 2022 01:06
@Criggie are you fine tuning it with the barrel nut (usually plastic, and easy to turn by hand) that's between the shifter and cable? I didn't even realize it existed until well after a repair of my own.
Sep 7, 2022 13:04
@MiG nuked. Thank you.
Sep 1, 2022 12:36
@MiG Got it, thank you!
Jul 19, 2022 16:31
@Criggie I think we know the reason for the high electric bill now
Jul 15, 2022 18:16
Changing that behavior would be a meta.SE question, but it has a couple downsides: people may be less likely to flag as spam, and others may abuse the flag to harass (at least until a mod shows up and eventually suspends them for malicious flags).
Jul 15, 2022 18:14
The community can eventually delete the post with enough spam flags, and then the mods don't see it unless someone calls it out or we go looking. Otherwise, one flag does get it in our queue, but it's still visible for others.
Jul 15, 2022 13:48
I nuked the user, probably a minute before Niall came to do the same :)
Jul 15, 2022 13:48
Looks like no one reviewed it in the Close votes queue.
Jul 6, 2022 14:22
@MiG Thanks. It's destroyed over here now. The community was so good at flagging it that the Community Bot killed the post and cleared the mod queue before the mods had a chance to notice.
Feb 24, 2022 02:23
But a good one
Feb 24, 2022 02:22
Lol!
Feb 24, 2022 01:49
I'm placing bets that the neighbor with the trampoline in the backyard was sad to see them go.
Feb 24, 2022 01:42
I can only imagine the neighbors have opinions about the previous owner moving out.
Feb 24, 2022 01:24
And a quick google has the internet confirming what I suspected but didn't want to say out loud. All that lighting, plus the nice kitchen and bathrooms, strongly suggested videos of an adult nature being made there.
Feb 24, 2022 00:56
I'm trying to decide if the original owner was OCD about plugs, or if it was really a call center crammed into a house.
Feb 24, 2022 00:55
It came up in a request to cleanup some comments here, and I didn't want to lose the joy.
Feb 24, 2022 00:52
I really wish there was a public comment section on this website: rightmove.co.uk/properties/65826048#/…
Feb 2, 2022 20:38
I'm looking at how it appears the roof continues into that room.
Feb 2, 2022 14:19
Is this how you fix a leaking roof?

Dec 22, 2021 14:25
Doh. At least they aligned the screw up/down to look pretty. An attempt was made.

Dec 21, 2021 15:06
I'd be curious what other duplexes in the community have done. Or is this the first one anywhere in the neighborhood with the issue?
