There are some pylons, basics, from Roman law, that the majority of Europe still use and abide.

@Discretelizard I am not pessimistic, I have got on my profile, place where I live.
Nov 14, 2021 19:46
"Country" if that is closer in meaning.
Nov 14, 2021 19:45
@Discretelizard Yup, SE stoop low. But is always like that with money, power etc. For private company, well, the money talks. What if we give "state" as subject? It gets heavier.
Nov 14, 2021 19:42
@Discretelizard himself, yes, still pretty cool.
Nov 10, 2021 04:22
Thank you. Well, the situation accelerates, into something vastly unjust. Yes, CS is still a very stellar resource, and didn't get that huge hit, but still, some changes are visible.

@vzn got my patent in U.S. and U.E. costed a lot of cash and stress, but finally got it (after 5 years). It paid off 0, but still, that was the goal. So according to US and EU, I am an inventor (yay!). Now what? Now relocation needed... because you know, we got this problem with democracy... Hard to say, but....
Nov 9, 2021 02:50
@D.W. How are things?
Nov 9, 2021 02:42
@vzn how do you do?
Nov 9, 2021 02:41
Still sticking around, but it gets weird when you read meta and the path to exile. Many great people just abandoned SE. The room get freezed from time to time. The past events are hard to swallow. Many great people just opted-out. Moreover I got this cringe feeling that I have to change location, so not only SE got some weird ideas. My country got weirder. Chat is no longer alive. That is sad. When only bounty appears or questions from math.se or assembly it is real path of doom.

Long time, no see.

@Raphael any response from CM about meta post with voting threshold?
Oct 18, 2019 01:19
@ThePlasmaRailgun What? Sorting networks like bitonic sort works well in practice. What construction do you have in mind?

@Dean it is more Stack Overflow chat or question

Critic mass was exhausted, not taking part is the same as agreeing with injustice. I still do not have dots to connect, but I fully put faith in Gilles words and deniability of wrongdoing at meta convinces me that mistrust was fully earned.

Oct 8, 2019 23:53
To be clear, by "meta" I mean general meta, not our CS meta.
Oct 8, 2019 22:30
Giving expressions that might be ambiguous repeatedly and denying it every time, but still repeating it is heating up discussion every time. People love to get closure, but unfortunately this is not how the World works.
Oct 8, 2019 22:25
@vzn I totally distance myself from suspension/firing as I do not know the details and cirumstances, but if I knew I still wouldn't jump into conclusions, because it was not mine experience to start with and accusations, because it sounds to me like an expression "they suffer the same fate", which sounds nasty at the moment. I admit, my English is not perfect, but afaik it suffices to understand verbs and adjectives...
Oct 8, 2019 22:00
@vzn While I disagree with the statement "mods on occasion show a lot of "uncompassion", I do not think that this is the place and time for such comparison.
Oct 8, 2019 21:39
The meta post was hijacked into uninformed opinions, here it seems that on the smaller scale there are is quite same course of action. Personally, I think that asking Gilles about what happened, trying to change mind or putting any pressure is just uncompassionate and improper. The same states for any reminder or forced recall of sad events.
Oct 8, 2019 21:26
I have no clear picture of what happened so I have not written anything on the topic. I wanted to share my best with Gilles and I am very sorry of what happened, it is sad that he felt betrayed (my own interpretation of mistrust, my words not really accurate, couldn't find better right now) and see it as tough lifechanging decision. Attitude and views are admirable. I am a big fan of answers here and Unix, these are stellar posts, examples what one could wish for and more.

"falling on ones sword" Refers to the practice of some Roman military leaders, who would commit suicide following a devastating defeat by literally falling on the point of their own swords.
Sep 25, 2019 10:41
This is good, if this is 1, it is a low problem.
Sep 25, 2019 10:39
@Discretelizard yes, exactly
Sep 25, 2019 00:07
There is some problem with low quality review, I have just seen two posts that are really not even close to lowQ. I hope there is some learning underneath and it was just a hiccup. If this is more serious problem, should it go to CS.meta or general meta?
Jul 20, 2019 22:41
@RetAFVLib hi
Jul 16, 2019 08:22
@TravisWells if you got banned here, at MO and get your posts locked for clarify, maybe it is time to take hints, take comments, revise material and toss this sudoku obsession? It starts to look like compulsive attachment.
Jul 16, 2019 08:18
@TravisWells I told you to avoid further small updates. I am not sure how would you lift second ban...
Jul 15, 2019 22:55
Otherwise it will not lift the lock and you will still write intuition instead of formal proof
Jul 15, 2019 22:54
Make proper reduction first
Jul 15, 2019 22:54
No, you do not have a proof or reduction
Jul 15, 2019 22:46
For future: state what you want to solve/prove, give clear definitions (step by step algorithm to solve subproblems is crucial), then what you have tried.
Jul 15, 2019 22:44
Or, like you said, vertex cover of some kind
Jul 15, 2019 22:43
@TravisWells during tagging in unsolved instance you have a graph with possible solutions. If there are vertices with degree 3 or greater it is similar to complete colouring
Jul 15, 2019 22:41
I wrote you answer. Yes, these are equivalent. If you do not aim at faster sudoku solving by pattern tagging, this concludes the proof.
Jul 1, 2019 22:44
@Anush Do you want to sort them? Yes it is possoble to use less than n^2 space.
Jun 15, 2019 17:42
Ok.
Jun 15, 2019 15:40
it looks like too-broad, but it isn't really. I do not have any particular attachment to this question, but I think that for those in the field this is not never ending story.
Jun 15, 2019 15:35
I agree that asking for a list of infinite and still increasing items is always bad idea, but bioinformatics is not even remotely large field, open problems are reduced to standard CS problems and people from time to time show field needs and advancements. I have added "reference-request" tag not to make it stick, but this is how it really works, there are 3 open problems with variants and that is all.
May 30, 2019 17:42
I do not count on beautiful code or some particular design concepts, just transform that will "flatten" all code into one form, should it be structures, classes or components, it is fully ok, just looking for starters kit.
May 30, 2019 17:40
@vzn yeah, I count on that, but couldn't find any. It also would be great to find some transform like SSA for compiler, but with design awareness. This part deOOPing code is easy, found it, Java does it, the other way is the part no avail.
May 28, 2019 22:07
I do not think that this question is well formed to ask on the main site. I get large codebase periodically, the quality is poor, because it is OOP from name, in fact these are simple containers that violate OOP paradigm, so "better" effectively means standard or some form (any would do). I couldn't find any paper about automatic transformation.
May 28, 2019 21:53
Is there any research or automated process to translate OOP code to either "better" one, imperative code or some intermediate form?
