though China will probably end up overtaking them
Nov 6, 2024 08:57
I'm not even American, it's just a fact currently
Nov 6, 2024 08:55
As long as it stays reasonable and respectful
Nov 6, 2024 08:55
I mean we said we should allow off-topic discussions again on TNB, having a few messages on election day of the most influential county in the world is acceptable I would think
Nov 6, 2024 08:50
(not that I'm surprised Trump won, USA is a funny place)
Nov 6, 2024 08:50
Didn't expect to learn that Trump is pretty much guaranteed to win today, I thought it would take a couple of days to be sure like last election
Aug 8, 2024 08:41
They would get rid of monarchy the instant he tried
Aug 8, 2024 08:41
Can’t imagine that the UK’s king could realistically veto anything in NZ anymore
Aug 8, 2024 08:39
@The_AH french
Aug 8, 2024 08:37
Why don’t they guillotine Charles like us? Simple solution
Aug 8, 2024 08:35
So Australia and NZ still have Charles as king? What about Canada?
Aug 8, 2024 08:15
@TheEmptyStringPhotographer Isn’t that the case for loads of countries?
Jul 15, 2024 14:25
Any random idiot can buy a gun in the US, if anything it’s more surprising that those things don’t happen more often
Jul 15, 2024 09:44
@RydwolfPrograms "Drugs are bad, m’kay"
Jun 24, 2024 14:44
@UnrelatedString I think so yeah
Jun 24, 2024 14:03
Apparently I’m 143 pounds
Jun 24, 2024 14:02
I don’t even know what my weight is in pounds, I have no point of reference
Jun 24, 2024 14:02
@hyper-neutrino …but why
Jun 24, 2024 13:59
Or pounds for weight… at least you don’t use stones like the brits
Jun 24, 2024 13:57
@UnrelatedString No because I don’t use barbaric units like feet and inches
Jun 10, 2024 09:56
The site is called "code golf and coding challenges", not competition. I think we should stop caring about comparing the score of answers
Jun 4, 2024 14:14
Having eyes is sufficient :p
Jun 4, 2024 14:13
@Adám And you see no issue with that style?
Jun 4, 2024 14:00
(with more explicit names)
Jun 4, 2024 14:00
For example, you write setInterval(H(),i), I would always write setInterval(H(), i)
Jun 4, 2024 13:59
I think the main point is that you should write code that’s readable to anyone and not just you, and most seem to agree that your style is very obscure
Jun 4, 2024 13:58
@Adám That’s because you’re used to Hebrew and APL
Jun 4, 2024 13:57
@Adám Make it more readable
Jun 4, 2024 13:57
Not putting spaces anywhere is a cardinal sin in and of itself
Apr 29, 2024 10:03
By making you mean working on the contents of the books, or working on the "interactive" part?
Apr 29, 2024 08:00
@DLosc I tried it too and it’s because I implemented it using metapredicates (here is the equivalent in Brachylog). We would need a purer implementation with no metapreds that you can’t reverse.
Apr 17, 2024 14:46
(because it doesn’t unify with the empty list as the last possible suffix)
Apr 17, 2024 14:45
@DLosc Tried things with a₁ but it won’t work if the list is full of 0s
Apr 8, 2024 14:29
tl;dr English needs better grammatical rules
Apr 8, 2024 14:24
yeah, I also thought about "which … depends on" but I’m not sure that’s quite right either
Apr 8, 2024 14:21
@TheEmptyStringPhotographer Is it clearer with my example? I need an answer quickly :p
Apr 8, 2024 14:15
or "it requests from X the list of Ys on which Z depends"
Apr 8, 2024 14:15
The full sentence would be "it requests from X the list of Ys from which Z depends on"
Apr 8, 2024 14:04
Or should it be "on which it depends", or something else
Apr 8, 2024 14:01
Any native English speaker in the chat? Is "…from which it depends on" grammatically correct?
Mar 4, 2024 09:53
e.g. [2,1] is not a prefix of [1,2,3]
Mar 4, 2024 09:50
Maybe I’m stupid but I don’t understand how this challenge’s definition of prefix makes any sense
Jan 22, 2024 10:41
Ok I think the test case is just wrong
Jan 22, 2024 10:40
11121 is already composite so why would the test case result be 1112
Jan 22, 2024 10:39
I don’t understand this challenge
Jan 8, 2024 12:54
@Simd install a windows VM, then use paint

Q: How is Shelob's name known?

FatalizeIn Tolkien's world, there are quite a few "magical" beasts that have proper names: dragons for example, like Smaug. One can assume that their names are known either because their creator was still around at that time (and thus could tell their name) or because the creature can speak (like Smaug)....
