@JyrkiLahtonen the problem is, general populace usually does not come in contact with advanced-mathematics terms, but are forced to acknowledge, agree to and sign legal documents all the time.

@AO I would rather push for * childy (sim. to windy) to be introduced to the Englisg language :-D.

They could conceivably train a small monkey attached to a thread to climb over a ballista arrow-attached rope to the other side, loop the thread over a tree / boulder and then return over the rope back.

Without the Internet and working cell network, smartphones will at best take a long time to get satellite fix, because they rely on AGPS (internet-assisted gps) a lot. Also I suspect the phone will not be able to connect to the cell network due to change in ciphers, protocols and frequencies. I think that in 1993 the existing cell networks were all analog still (NMT instead of GSM), but I will not bother to check.

@XanderHenderson in May 2000, Clinton's government switched off selective availability, hence improving GPS accuracy to ~5m. That begat geocaching.

@mgh42That counts as an acute lead poisoning ;-)

Even the librarian could utter the source code for the image viewer, just saying Ook!.

@TheoreticalMinimum - you do realize that the defcon talk was a fun show, not a serious research, right?

@Tektotherriggen - do you mean this? :-D phys.org/news/2020-01-glitch-pulsar-psr-j09084913.html

In a weird twist, people monitoring GPS time signals detected a strange forward and backward jump of time on December 31st, 20:39:47 UTC. See here: lists.dns-oarc.net/pipermail/dns-operations/2020-January/… . Coincidence? I guess not! ;-)

@Nij - otoh (bared a solar flare), the dose acquired from a flight is independent of human/technology mishaps, unlike (potentially!) from the scanners.

@MatthieuM.: management module in some servers will gladly let you enter as long password as you wish when creating an access account and also when later you try to log in, but will silently truncate the former (or latter?) to 20 characters.

On a second look, it's not the glass container from Aliens, but a cat transport box, clearly for the facehugger. Heh :)

the skeleton on the right ... was not there st. like that in Simpson's Halloween Special?

are the colored portals identified? (0f, 9e)

0 - behind Akira - it looks a bit like Alien mother's legs or something like that
Oct 7, 2017 09:43
2c - next to the circle, it's the glass container where the facehugger has been stored (Aliens)

@b_jonasl - I certainly did not destroy anything on purpose - Can I see it somewhere?

I wonder where is that MOTEL sign from - it's not from Psycho, I believe

@Jared: I respectfully disagree with intuitiveness of imperial units outside "human scale", i.e. lengths shorter than 1 inch or cm or longer than 2 m/10 ft etc. What's intuitive about 8 3/4 miles (naval? statutory?) plus 600 yards? Or is 5.25 Nm more than 5Nm and 500 yards? Do you know how many pounds of water will be in your 2ft*2ft*2t fish tank? :)

The memories get accessible during puberty? But that means that you will get to know how girls (and women) think just when you need it most! That's power, man! :-D

I heartily recommend this article explaining the difference between PHY and practical wifi speed why Wi-Fi kind of sucks

@Mason Wheeler: slight timing differences are for example important as a side channel in embedded device applications, like smart cards. Those cards are actually underpowered java machines, so a different time taken to process a correct and an incorrect letter would be very well measurable.

Even a major landmass features (read - Chicxulub crater) vanished in that length of time, so I seriously doubt it.

It's a thrilling read, thanks! Just some notes: 1) if it's a plutonium A-bomb, it's probably a boosted design. In this case, I think, the outer core would have a removable plug with the actual inner core or st. like that 2) The alchemist might decide that the explosives are there to break the egg/core and unleash whatever is hatching inside. Given the scale-like explosive lens, he might come to conclusion that there is a demon or a dragon inside.

The bitcoin advice is the best one, I think - it does not require a lot of cash and you only have to remember to try to cash out as much as possible when the price is ~ 1000USD/1BTC.

In Czech, it's "nevěřící Tomáš" (disbelieving Thomas) as well. And we are quite a disbelieving country :).
