Game development and other polite discussion. Game development...

I'm usually bashing the topic with the kids... The banknote in their hand they can tell apart from another bank note in their hand, good look doing that with digital moneys :) But then people seem to agree to avoid the understanding of fundamental social mechanics. (namely money)... Its all very fascinating...

@Jon I'd be all for the money going to him (: but they dont
Oct 23, 2015 13:46
to this day I'm not sure it was a bug or an accidental use of a feature (:
Oct 23, 2015 13:46

Oct 23, 2015 07:53
@JoshPetrie even if its not trivial, some of the cheat engine folks get very motivated when faced with descent opposition (:
Oct 22, 2015 10:48
considering folks play excruciatingly difficult games without complaining - but tend to flock in droves about cheating particular elements in certain games
Oct 22, 2015 10:47
if people cheated a lot I've always saw it as bad design
Oct 22, 2015 10:46
cheat prevention only matters in multi players, stopping people who refuse to play your single player the way you want has always seemed uber arrogant to me
Oct 22, 2015 10:36
@Jon i agree, thats a dumb idea to begin with imho

Q: Should we split the chat into on- and off-topic rooms?

Josh PetrieA user has proposed effectively(*) splitting our site's chat room into on- and off- topic sub-rooms. A grassroots attempt to populate or otherwise prove obvious utility of the room was given about two weeks or so to show something for itself. I'm posting this question to get a feeling from the c...

Oct 22, 2015 10:35

at least most of their budget wont sink into marketing, rendering 3d bs and cgi (: they might actually focus on areas and gameplay, unlike most of us (:
Oct 19, 2015 14:08
@Lokkij not having to deal with a 3d world has to have some benefit
Oct 19, 2015 13:15
and people constantly whine about - "give me a ready to plug and play solution" - da fak you doing talking the problem?
Oct 19, 2015 13:14

Oct 13, 2015 14:08
@MickLH maybe after Jon Stewart retired ;)
Oct 13, 2015 14:06
@Jon is the onion even relevant any more? (I'm not a westerner so) I've always seen it as a cheap substitute for shoving your face in 3 months old swiss cheese
Oct 13, 2015 14:04

@barbecue exactly! I'm not attempting to catch flies, thus I'm not using honey, yet they swam in chewing the vodka I used any way :) Flies said "You carry no honey you arse" i said "Above guy carried no honey either, didn't see you complain :) ?"
Sep 28, 2015 23:29
@PeterCordes I don't know ... My conclusion of "It seems that possessing the poor and slaves was enough for the Romans to not need harems." Looks like a fairly self explanatory speculation? Does "It seems" = It looks to me = It just looks that way, who knows how it is" really warrant a disclaimer of "Hi there folks, this really is just an opinion if in case you miss all the elements that characterize it as an opinion"? Why I don't care for sources - I've found incredible insights in the framework of thoughts even in cases where most of the facts comprising them are wrong.
Sep 28, 2015 23:29
@barbecue remember that old saying, offense is really taken, not given. Oh I'm sure you and others are bugged out, about me not instantly conforming to the general hypocrisy of the given area and having the gall to say that I wont. But you know - one day you learn that people who disagree with you are not necessarily out to get you :) Call me then - the whiskey will be on me.
Sep 28, 2015 23:29
@PeterK. Hah, I just wanted to see how many mind police trolls settled in the new SE history hub. Basic psychology, ignore something offhandedly - probably can go by unnoticed. Ignore that same thing and actually state it and watch all the ocd fireworks start bursting :) Check "Semaphore" above calling speculation a belief!? As if ANY testament on the MIND SET of an entire PEOPLES (extinct) can ever be anything more than a guess or at the best of times Empirical (still a guess). As if there exists a priori that can satisfy this question and I'm throwing random quibs at it instead.
Sep 28, 2015 23:29
@Mayo I can't ever imagine to have more contempt for the discipline than it does for it self. The most avid objectors to progress in both science and history have been those practitioners of it over-aggressively defending their own views. Just so the next person doesn't get credit for having better results than they did. Had any of the critics above said "You are aware that everything you said is a flat speculation?" This would have ended with a "Yes I do" from me. Instead they went to pile on it like little children pretending that a rationalized tantrum is some greater aspiration logic.
Sep 28, 2015 23:29
But hey at least the amount of bias is fun. The answer above me lacked any reference as well - but didn't get as much ocd demotion as this one did. Whatever answer is given to this question - will always be a speculation.
Sep 28, 2015 23:29
Not to mention that if you've focused on anything but my refusal for citations you'd have noticed I base the opinion on ideas that are mostly of commonplace agreement about the romans. Such as slaves, little sexual inhibition, orgies etc. How much sexual inhibition do you exactly expect from a culture that often provides public baths with no gender division. Compare that to today's culture that creates social disturbances on debates whether or not to teach children what a penis is in school, and instead is so saturated with bullshit, easy access porn and booming sexual ineptitude in youth.
Sep 28, 2015 23:29
But then you can be a westerner than can only engage in a consideration only if its authority based. As if authority information has any obligation to accuracy any more than the average person speaking. Also no one is asking you to take anything. People take what they want, its about having perspective variety. And I am a game designer, I could care less what the popular mantra in academia is about the romans. God knows how entirely dependent various academics are on people believing their speculations are more credible than the next person's.
Sep 28, 2015 23:29
Or I've lived long enough to know most history is too speculative to bother hand feeding facts to a thread that is speculative to begin with. Most people cant testify accurately to events they experiences 5 days ago but would claim to be versed in the intricacies of cultures extinct for quite long enough. So yeah what I've said is an opinion formed on my knowledge of the romans. Holocaust-deniers? I've seen the bones and even with them, a lot of people use them to build all kinds of speculations as well.
