The reasoning is that, we rely on TLS (SSL) for securing the modern internet. TLS protects against MITM attacks: nobody but the server and the browser can read the encrypted data. Cloudflare serves its own TLS certificates though; it needs to, to be able to do their jobs.
Which creates a very convenient point of interception and eavesdropping for a _very_ large part of the worlds internet traffic.

Ok, the title seemed to create too much confusion. I've changed it to be a better indication of the question.

Nov 15, 2023 17:47
I asked the question in the same light.
Nov 15, 2023 17:47
I don't want it balanced for specific builds, I would like to know if this is balanced in general.
Two-weapon fighting was not written for a specific build, it is a generally available fighting style, that can be used by different builds. The same goes for Dueling, and Great Weapon Fighting.
Nov 15, 2023 17:44
We discussed these homebrew rules quite a bit. We decided I should ask a broader audience with more experience on the subject.
Nov 15, 2023 17:42
The prime candidate, from our players group, to use this is a Ranger (Gloom-stalker). But our Paladin is also mildly interested, and might switch is we decide to adopt this rule.
Nov 15, 2023 17:39
For me, those two things are the same thing:
- if a min-max strategy, using these new rules, can create an overfull powerful combination, it is not balanced.
Nov 15, 2023 17:38
I'm looking for a balance review, where my concern is that min-maxing may break the balance of things. That's why I added the first line in the question.
Nov 15, 2023 17:38
@NotArch ? the answer to your last comment is in the question? "So, we intend this fighting style to be an alternative to the existing melee fighting styles (Two-Weapon Fighting, Dueling, and Great Weapon Fighting)" ?
Nov 15, 2023 17:38
I'm not min-maxing for any class or race in particular. In fact, I'm not min-maxing at all. I asked the question to see if the fighting style/feat as described is balanced with regards to the existing fighting styles. My worry is that, while it seems balanced on the surface, it might not be, if combined with other rules, such as class features, special abilities or anything else in the rules we did not think of.

If possible, I would suggest keeping the bonusAttack (and bonusDamage) out of the formula to calculate the combinedHitProbability for the (main) attacks.
This makes it easier to, in the future, adapt the logic and, for example, change the damage die for the bonus attack.
Nov 4, 2023 14:42
@justhalf ok, thanks for the heads-up! I'm most interested in seeing your answer!
Nov 4, 2023 14:21
- main attack critical hit
Nov 4, 2023 14:21
- main attack hit (normal)
Nov 4, 2023 14:21
- main attack miss
Nov 4, 2023 14:21
you might want to split it in 3 cases:
Nov 4, 2023 12:46
also, I've updated the script linked in the question
Nov 4, 2023 12:27
So, in hopes of getting those details added, I've added a bounty.
Nov 4, 2023 12:21
As far as I can see, a straight-up subsitution between d_normal and d_critical is not possible, since d_critical is itself depended on both the hit chance (which is dependend on disadvantage/non-disadvantage) and the critical range.
Nov 4, 2023 12:20
@MannerPots The formula as presented still does not take the increased damage output caused by critical hits into account.
In the 4th comment, you said: "That's a good point, yes. You'd only need to change the first d in the formula since the ones in the (nāˆ’i)pd term are attacks without disadvantage. And of course, for a normal crit chance, it would decrease your expected damage by less than 1/20th, so the overall effect is very small."

Nov 3, 2023 18:22
Yet is still doesn't add up to the results produced by the formula (and tabulated in table 1) in the answer from @MannerPots :-(
Nov 3, 2023 18:21
I've update the simple simulation script a bit. It is now a bit more user friendly, and gives a more comprehensive output.
Nov 3, 2023 10:37
@HighDiceRoller, thanks! I've fixed the typo.
Nov 2, 2023 21:22
I also run a simulation and I have to agree: the results from @MannerPots's answer do not reflect the simulations. I've added the script as a HTML page; see 'Note 3' in the question.
Nov 2, 2023 09:25
I would be most interested in seeing how it stacks up against a probability simulation!
Nov 2, 2023 09:24
@Eddymage I accepted the answer, but de-accepted it again. I tried implementing it in a script and was uncertain about it still.
Nov 1, 2023 09:39
Much appreciated.
You answered the probability that the bonus attack is triggered very nicely!
It is the first part of the question that is still bugging me.
Oct 31, 2023 20:36
'combined hit probability' might be a problematic term, but it is the best I could come up with.
Oct 31, 2023 20:35
Given that the the choice to impose disadvantage, for all but the first attack, is determined by the outcome of the previous attack, I would expect this to affect the overall combined hit probability.
Oct 31, 2023 20:34
Oct 31, 2023 20:23
But let me draw up a schematic that shows what I try to say.
Oct 31, 2023 20:22
I wrote: "Let's say the player want to trigger the bonus attack, so he is always going to choose to attack with disadvantage, until he gets the bonus attack. Once the bonus attack is triggered, he will not impose disadvantage on any subsequent attacks this round."
Oct 31, 2023 20:22
I think I may not have worded my question clear enough, or maybe I don't understand what you are trying to tell me.
Oct 31, 2023 20:21
Hi
Oct 31, 2023 20:03
Ok, this is probably my lack of Math skills... but, given that some attacks would be made with disadvantage, I would expect the combined probability to hit, in the scenario as described, to fall somewhere between the 'combined probability to hit when all attacks have disadvantage' and the 'combined probability to hit, when none of the attacks have disadvantage'?
Oct 31, 2023 20:03
I think you really nicely answered part 2 of the question (the probability of triggering the bonus attack). But, as far a I understand your answer on the first part of the question (the average damage per round), it still assumes disadvantage is imposed on all attacks?
Oct 31, 2023 20:03
This answer seems to go with the assumption that all attacks are made at a disadvantage, which is not necessarily the case?

The use case for an ABAC/RBAC SaaS solution is that many mid-size companies build in-house software, but have limited resources. While at the same time being big enough that things like (immutable) audit trails and GUI-based configuration of access rights are becoming important
Aug 21, 2019 10:04
Thereby basically offloading the role/access rights management to an external service.
Aug 21, 2019 10:04
@A.Hersean, By Access Control as a service I mean that applications call an external service to check if a user has permission to do something within the application.
Aug 21, 2019 08:21
Could anyone point me to products that offer RBAC or ABAC services through an API (I know product recommendations are generally off topic, but I was hoping somebody is chat could maybe point me in the right direction)

to be honest, they had it well organized. It was just that they didn't expect us to need to run an installer several times an hour.
Jul 16, 2018 15:08
After about half a day the department we had to call to authorize the install for us gave in : )
Jul 16, 2018 15:08
I once did an internship with a multinational, as an intern, we were -of course- not given local admin rights on our PCs. Problem was, as part of our project we needed to develop an install wizard : )

I guess the high number of replies is, at least in part, due to the question asking for 'what is common'. It kinda invites people to add their own experience and opinion on the matter.
