The solution to all of this is obviously, Tor, but that has its own problems. Not technical problems, so much as usability problems due to general ignorance by web admins as to its practical use-cases. Although, even with Tor, it can be difficult to stay completely anonymous, just nowhere near as difficult.

I've included references, as requested. I will admit that the situation was more nuanced than I had initially believed it to be, but the result is still the same. Apple cannot use GPLv3
Nov 20, 2017 02:44
@LeakyNun Thank you.
Nov 19, 2017 15:30
@JasonS Neither do you care to educate yourself, apparently. https://www.engadget.com/2011/01/09/the-gpl-the-app-store-and-you/
http://www.zdnet.com/article/no-gpl-apps-for-apples-app-store/
There are tons of other articles that are only a google search away. I have no patience for your type of laziness, which is why I became hostile. If you care to do your own research, you're less than 60 seconds away from your answer these days, thanks to the marvelous invention known as the Internet.
Nov 19, 2017 01:06
Regardless, I can throw in some evidence. I'm fine with it.
Nov 19, 2017 01:06
@bmike College professors almost never use references, they are merely good at convincing people that they know what they're talking about.
Nov 19, 2017 00:15
@JasonS I think you sound like an elitist, pretentious college professor. Confident in his own knowledge, but incapable of learning from others. There was no chance of you doing any work on your own, so I saw no reason to be polite. Thank you for moving on.
Nov 19, 2017 00:15
@JasonS Then do your own research. I assume you’re capable of using your brain, so please attempt to do so, then perhaps enlighten us.
Nov 19, 2017 00:15
@JasonS I’ll just tell you then, if you don’t want to read it: The GPL mandates that anything that links to software distributed under it, must also have its source available. This would mean that most of macOS would need to be open-sourced for Apple to make use of any GPL code. This wasn’t an issue with GPLv2.
Nov 19, 2017 00:15
@JasonS yes, the GPL itself. Give it a read, it isn’t terribly long

I will need proof that 2 works before I add it to the steps though. You can add it if you feel confident enough to stand behind your claim.
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
I have removed my guide. David's MBR hack, if you really feel safe doing that, is your option now. I need to know whether his second suggestion is necessary or not, and I can't leave an incomplete guide up.
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
@DavidAnderson 1 is wrong. I have done this numerous times. VirtualBox has no problem marking the correct partition as active in my case. I don't know what kind of trouble you're having, but it has nothing to do with VirtualBox's capability to write to the protective MBR.
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
Ah, very possible. That would prevent MBR modification.
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
@DavidAnderson hah, putting a virus in MBR code would be a toughie :p
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
You can try forcing it to quit and booting again. I recall having that issue once. Hopefully Windows can cope.
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
@Ryan you can try his method of you want. It's similar to mine though. It has extra MBR editing steps that were not needed in your case.
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
@DavidAnderson Interesting. Hopefully Ryan can try it and get back to us. Unfortunately, I am unable to test a BIOS setup anymore, as the latest MacBook Pro doesn't support BIOS emulation.
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
have to do step 7 and 8 again
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
You could try installing BootCamp drivers in VirtualBox first.
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
That shouldn't be a problem. I'll see if I can figure out what's going on.
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
That's odd... The installation went off without a hitch, right?
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
Well... It has been working for me for years. Only a few days ago I used this procedure to install Ubuntu onto an external drive for the purposes of using that drive as a boot drive for another computer whose internal drive needed to be imaged, and for various reasons I couldn't connect directly to my computer. Feel free to try it out! I've been sitting on this process for a long time. Never found anyone who needed it till now. :p
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
You're quite welcome!
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
Using this VirtualBox method will install Windows as if EFI doesn't exist, since the EFI portion of VirtualBox isn't enabled by default. It will use BIOS emulation mode on reboot.
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
I've used this method to install Windows in both BIOS and EFI mode, as well as various distros of Linux and Unix. It has worked flawlessly so far!
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
It should give you the option to reformat the disk
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
right. I messed up in step 7. Try it again. Sorry about that :p
Feb 24, 2016 13:46
made one tiny mistake! If you had trouble with step 7, try it again.

Jan 29, 2016 14:29
Well, it should stop once it's done.
Jan 29, 2016 14:26
okie dokie! :)
Jan 29, 2016 14:24
It really shouldn't. I have a hunch that restarting might not fix this, but if it does, then at least it narrows down what could have gone wrong.
Jan 29, 2016 14:23
restarting might help. Definitely worth a shot.
Jan 29, 2016 14:22
well that's pretty damn strange then
Jan 29, 2016 14:21
In the "General" tab of Terminal's preferences, it should be set to have shells open with "Default login shell". Is it set to that?
Jan 29, 2016 14:18
go into your Terminal's preferences, and click on the "Profiles" tab, then click on the "Shell" sub-tab, and see if "run command" is checked.
Jan 29, 2016 14:16
@Shivi Can you post the contents of your ~/.bashrc as well?
Jan 29, 2016 14:16
@Shivi I meant the "Run Shell Script" action, instead of "Run AppleScript"...
Jan 29, 2016 14:16
Shouldn't you really just make this into a shell script? What benefit does Applescript provide in this case?

The DJ's not bad. I like the concept. Music may now be a much easier industry to break into for the unknowns.
Jun 30, 2015 16:56
It's out actually
Jun 30, 2015 15:53
best utility for Media Access Control too.
Jun 30, 2015 15:50
I thought that was a statement of fact
Jun 30, 2015 15:50
no kidding
Jun 30, 2015 15:50
lmfao
Jun 29, 2015 15:06
The hard-coded move doesn't seem to reliably trigger though. Recently, I had the a comments section grow to 16 comments, without the usual message.
Jun 29, 2015 00:05
I'm fully aware that comments aren't for extended discussion, but sometimes it just happens. If an extended discussion is always an issue, there aught to be a limit on the number of comments, because I have no clue at what point the discussion is considered "extended".

Jun 28, 2015 23:52
Thanks, same to you.
Jun 28, 2015 23:52
Nope. All's well. :)
Jun 28, 2015 23:52
TTY refers to the terminal session you're in. It stands for TeleTYpe, which refers to the old TeleTypewriters from the early days of computers. A little historical leftover that nobody ever had a reason to change. You can read a little bit about it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_terminal
