This didn't seem relevant to others so I thought I'd ask in chat vs a general question. I'm adding a wall to turn a loft into a bedroom and have 2 questions about electrical (purple) I'm looking for any guidance on.

Note I’m trying to avoid another 76mm BCD offset spider. That is the unique part giving me headaches now.

I'd love to just have the "common standard" setup... nothing crazy unique. Something with easy to find replacement parts (esp chainrings). It's for a specialized fatboy fat bike.
Jun 8, 2020 22:25
What I gather is that I currently have a pressfit PF30 bottom bracket, 175mm crank arms, and a single chainring. My current crank lists "30mm spindle width" and "30mm spindle", although I'm not sure that those matter. What other metrics are useful here and should I be looking for?

Looking for a replacement crankset after having a lot of trouble with my current chainring/crankset setup (seems to be quite unique and hard to find proper replacements for). Can anyone help get me started down the right direction?

For anyone following along, SRAM gave me info on what they think the bolts are that I need... I'm skeptical but ordered them to see - https://www.probikesupply.com/products/sram-xx1-chainring-bolt-kit-set-4

I hate this chainring :)
May 27, 2020 18:41
Good question... not sure how it's calculated exactly but here is some background info on it - pardo.net/bike/pic/mobi/d.uneven-round-chainring-bolt-patterns/…
May 27, 2020 17:29
The chainring is a SRAM XX1 1 x 11-Speed Chainring (76mm BCD, 28T, X-Sync) that appears to use M8.5 chainring bolts (not standard M8 bolts). I've tried two local shops and searching online, but can't find anywhere that actually sells these bolts (and can ship to the US). I'm not 100% sure that M8.5 bolts are the right ones, but wolftooth seems to suggest that XX1 spiders use M8.5 bolts standard on this page (https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/collections/chainrings/products/76-bcd-chainrings?variant=25140426565).

I've got what appears to be a slightly unique chainring and bolts that don't quite fit right.

Since this is essentially a shopping question, I avoided posting to the Q&A and instead am trying here...

I basically use the above park tool grease for every nut and bolt on my bike, with the exception of the carbon grease for my carbon seat post, and of course an appropriate chain lube. Am I missing some essential type of grease in my toolbox that I should be using for something? I.e. I take apart a crank, use the above park tool grease for each thread/bolt. I take apart my hub or stem - they all get the same park tool grease. Is this a mistake?

Maybe I just need another day of rotating the tires around to "find the holes and fill them"? Does that sound about right or should I start over?
Sep 22, 2018 01:09
So I converted my tires to tubeless yesterday for the first time. Pumped them up to 40psi, and left them overnight. In the morning I measured about 30psi on both tires. I figure about 5psi is lost just by attaching my pump, so somewhere around 5psi was lost due to lack of a seal. Is this normal for 24 hours after setting up tubeless? I tried the "soapy water" test to see if any bubbles formed due to air leaks but didn't find anything.

Q: Is it practical to switch from tubeless to tubes every few weeks?

dpollittPart of the allure of a gravel/cyclocross bike has been the possibly of having a "do it all" setup. I recently purchased a gravel bike with 38c tubeless tires on it, and I also have a set of 30c tubed/clinchers. I don't have any experience with tubeless but from what I've read they seemingly ar...

Couldn't find the question on the site so I added my own:
Sep 2, 2018 13:46
how difficult is it to switch back and forth between tubeless and tubed? i'd like to swap 30c slicks for faster paced road rides and races, but see myself keeping the 38c tubeless setup going most of the time.
Sep 2, 2018 13:46
has 38c tubeless on it at the moment.

I'd probably go with something in the 800-1000 range based on what you are saying
Aug 27, 2018 13:20
Specific models probably come down to how long you go (hours), and fast (roughly equate to lumens to a degree), and budget

@Criggie I'm a fan of the Cygolite brand. Amazon sells them or REI in the US.
Aug 24, 2018 21:20
Can now confirm. A new Fuji bike comes almost fully assembled. Only needed grease, basic hex wrench set, wire cutter, and cone wrench for the pedals. Everything else was put together from the factory. Took about 30mins.
Aug 23, 2018 20:35
They note that you just have to hook up the cables (already in the body) to the calipers and crimp them. Seems super simple. Not sure if I'm missing something.

Seems like this is a general tutorial for fuji road bike assembly -
Aug 23, 2018 20:21
Are you sure a Fuji wouldn't just come with the cables already installed?
Aug 23, 2018 20:20
Just buying cables is almost the same cost as having the shop assemble the bike for me.
Aug 23, 2018 19:27
I was also not sure if Fuji will still warranty it if it isn’t built by a shop, I’ve seen that clause in other manufacturers warranty but couldn’t find such a clause with Fuji...
Aug 23, 2018 19:26
@Criggie Cool, thanks for the comment. Do you typically have to cable it from scratch then?
Aug 23, 2018 17:06
How difficult is it to assemble a new bike? Specially a Fuji hybrid. So far I’ve done things like replace bottom bracket bearings, wheel bearings, tires, and a few other small maintenance items. Never built a bike from scratch, rebuilt groupsets, or anything like that.

What do you guys think of this bike? I had never heard of the brand "Framed" until I came across this.

Buying a cracked frame to repair it seems a bit outside of my comfort level. Interesting idea though.
Aug 7, 2018 01:01
He seems genuinely surprised. He took down the Craigslist post after I viewed it. Not to say he couldn’t repost, but I think he didn’t know about the crack either.
Aug 7, 2018 00:40
Really a shame. It was a great bike all around and exactly what I was looking for (besides a cracked frame!)

I put my smartphone light on it closely and it didn't really tell my untrained eye much.
Aug 7, 2018 00:37
Thanks Criggie. It's a used bike I just test drove. The crack/scratch was something I could "catch" with my fingernail so it wasn't something that would wipe off. Seems unlikely that paint would spider like that but I wasn't sure.
Aug 7, 2018 00:14
This is a seat tube / seat stay on a carbon frame. I have no experience with such things, is this a cracked frame?

May 20, 2018 02:24
So overall, I think you are saying the rims are quite similar and both would work fine. I found references online to the bontrager pair which seem to indicate a $450 USD MSRP which seems relatively high to a newbie like me. The Mavic are just the set that came from the factory on the Felt bike totaling around $1600, so it seems like the bontrager are possibly higher end but maybe the prices don't mean much.

As for the decals/visuals - i dont have a strong preference either way really. I don't have rollers, I have a trainer but I likely will be using my older bike on that still for a while. As for my style of riding, I'm just getting into it but I guess I'd say distance more than climbing or sprinting.
