Most organizations I've been with (US) always have an IP clause so it's highly likely that they had that somewhere.

I was simply providing a numerator without a denominator. To people who care about math, it's easy to tell that was what I was doing. I was literally told that there were 800 applicants back then per job, so it was not dishonest. I can't estimate how many applied to every job but sending out 50 resume's sounds reasonable. That still leaves 750 without a job!

How is it misleading? If there's 800 applicants per job, that's just a fact. Perhaps each applicant applies to say 50 jobs, but that's still not overly optimistic to get a job. (Then later, they'll ask you why you didn't get an academic job right away)....

It's tough. In my field back in the 1990's there were about 800 resume's per tenure track position. It's really tough to get such a position, depending on geography, major and other factors.

The professor would be happy to know that at least in my usage, Grammarly turns "can not" into cannot. Indeed, it just suggested that, right now, as I typed.

If what you are saying is true, certainly it deserves to be said. Perhaps a more factual phrasing would be appropriate, but you could share this 're-inventing the wheel' joke with your fam or around the water-cooler.

Of course, I could take credit for Harry S Truman's quote, it seems legitimate!

It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit. Harry S Truman

It seems to me you should find a different team, or a different job. Stop worrying about who gets the credit. Try to get the project done as best you can.

If you want make such assumptions, you eliminate the best answer ..

I would also note that there's a difference between doing research and doing publishable, peer-reviewable research, so that should be kept in mind.

I'd vote to re-open if I could.

I like Greybeard's comment, was going to write it but with dog instead of cat; possibly 'feline' would be more general, just as there are several types of chairs.

For peace of mind, don't do it. Just not worth it.

I completely agree with point 1. Point 2 must be done in a very sensitive, careful way. This may also be culturally dependent. Is there a way to turn this around, like using 'simulated' data, and admitting it is such, rather than passing off 'fake' data as real? Also, you could possibly finish your Ph.D. with the data you have and add a "future research" section, and have that ready for some other student to pick up. This would then turn a 'bug' into a 'feature' !!!

Thinking outside the box, how about let everyone who wants to telework? Especially if they get their tasks done! Also, Good for the environment!

I was in an undergrad program (EE, US), where up to 67 % of the students got "D" or "F" from certain professors in required courses. There were about 4 of them like that, so it made it hard to graduate for some.

Do not lie about your current salary., Try to avoid lies in general.

I stand corrected. Well, it dispels one theory, anyway.

The answers mostly focus on fans, and fans as part of a system, but also the chips are now much smaller, and presumably require less heat-sinking than they used to.

Really well-thought out answer. Where I live, one does NOT have to eliminate dandelions from their yard, but people usually do anyway. (I personally don't see them as a weed, anyway).
