@user14111 : Thanks. I don’t think the original search had a hit on page 175 anyway. I think the quoted appearance was much earlier in the text. I’m definitely starting to think it was in a foreword that is no longer bundled with that source and which was impossible to distinguish from the main text under Google Books’ “Snippet View”.

@user14111 : I’m wondering now if it was part of a foreword, etc., perhaps by someone else, that was not part of the text proper, and Google is no longer including it with the text.

@user14111 : If I go to what appears to be the 1916 version of the text in Google Books and try the same text search, it comes with a hit on page 175 but does not display the full text: books.google.ca/… Is it possible it is searching text from a different version (it says 1916), or perhaps there is some error? The text definitely came from Google Books 5 years ago, and it still seems to say that the phrase is in that particular edition.

@user14111 : All I can say is that, 5 years ago, there must have been a Google Books excerpt with that quote (I’m not sure where else it would have come from). Google Ngram pointed me to the 1916 edition of this book and I used Google Books (I believe) to get the exact quote it referred to. I wish I knew more, but this is the best I can say.

@user14111 : I don’t have the text, but I would presume so. I was relying on Google Ngram’s records, as stated above.

@Jenayah : It has never been the convention in any official Star Trek-related media to italicize the names of vessels. There is value in consistency (which the SFF.SE community expresses by coordinating tagging conventions, etc.) and so I have reverted the change. Sorry. Thanks for the discussion.

Just FYI: they are not exactly the same banners. The one in the trailer has more white space at the left edge and is also missing a purple signature below the green “a” in “Captain”, for instance.

@JackBNimble @KutuluMike : Great job with the migration to the new blog, guys. I like the look and feel. Just a quick question: it seems that for some of the blog posts, the images in the posts are still being sourced from the old domain. Will these be migrated at some point, too?

@JackBNimble : There's one HTML link (on this post scifi.blogoverflow.com/2016/08/…) that will rot in a few months, when they start the guest list for next year's convention and archive the current one. When that happens, I'll send you the URL for the archived guest list and ask you to update that link --- thanks in advance. :-)

I have a lot of experience with the WordPress format, which the blog clearly uses.

I will be documenting an event as it is occurring, one of great interest to the sci-fi world (although I'd prefer not to give too many details before publication).

@JackBNimble : I'm a contributor for the blog, but I can see from playing around with a draft post that I will need it to be reviewed and approved. Starting in about 10 days, I will want to post about 6 blog posts, one per day. I can't write them in advance. Each one will be written on the day, and I want them to be published on the same day, for timeliness.

Back to the issue at hand: "slag" is a common insult in the UK, but it is insulting and chauvinist and it would be prudent to leave it aside now. All in agreement @WadCheber, @CreationEdge?
