@AshleyOtero +1 balsamiq and omnigraffle are the primary ones used for wireframing. In terms of fidelity. Balsamiq (low), Omnigraffle (low to medium), photoshop/sketch (high). I personally like omnigraffle due to its flexibility. You can do rough boxes and lines, or use stencil/templates to get decent mocks. It doesn't handle transitions/animations though, nor does it offer pixel precision.

@zsitro You're probably need a navigation drawer if you need direct access to that many pages. e.g. google.com/design/spec/patterns/navigation-drawer.html
Sep 25, 2015 16:55
+1. Dealing with scope control. What can we tweak to get releases out to clients sooner.
Sep 10, 2015 22:06
Agreed. More documentation lead to "wall of text" syndrome. I've tried highlighting updates. Not really seeing much impact of that
Sep 10, 2015 22:04
@JohnGB I see. I don't actually touch production code. Prototype code is about all I do. Your approach is very similar to the way I do my docs. Which are standard "mockups" at a reasonable fidelity. Then annotate for behaviour and special cases etc. What I notice though is devs on my team sometimes jump into the work without first looking at the UI and miss details because of this.
Sep 10, 2015 20:50
Attempt to start a discussion. What are your thoughts on ways of communicating detail requirements to devs? Folks tend not to read lengthy stories. I put annotations into UI docs and people sometimes ask me stuff that's clearly outlined.

@deostroll You mean the typing text animation? Seems to be a js plugin called "malarkey" npmjs.com/package/malarkey

Great summary at the end:
A good product designer will have some skills in most areas of the stack. Usually they will have a deeper interest in a particular area and master those skills.

A great product designer can identify the areas they are strong in and, conversely, weak in. For the weaker areas they will seek advice and support, sometimes helping build a team to make sure all the gaps are covered.

A recent article on the UX unicorn vs full stack product designer.

@BennySkogberg Your links made my day. Thanks Benny.
Jul 22, 2015 18:55
They only have screen resolution though and not browser viewport sizes though so look at that with a grain of salt.
Jul 22, 2015 18:54
@NickAlexeev You can take a look at statcounter's data for general usage if you don't have analytics yet. gs.statcounter.com/#resolution-US-monthly-201406-201506
Jul 22, 2015 16:06
@NickAlexeev Is this on a browser? The recommended approach would be to look at your analytics to determine popular screen resolution and viewport sizes and optimize your landing page so they look decent in these resolutions.
Mar 27, 2015 22:20
@Wander The dev team in my company uses px for font sizing. We haven't been noticing any issues with alignments across the major browsers including IE7/8. If anything "em" and "rem" sizing are more recent introductions to CSS practices. So if you need to use px because you have no control over font face, then by all means use pixel sizing.

@CharlesWesley That's not an answerable question right now. And I can't see why it'll be of use to anybody in UX to understand how not take photos. Or why user want color schemes with indeterminable colors.

I need to stack different type of data together in the visual. graphsketcher and it seems like nvd3 is out. Looks like I'm going to have to learn D3. Thanks for your help John. :)
Feb 25, 2015 19:50
Huh was hoping to eventually automate it by hooking it up with data, but I'll take a look at that as well. All the great stuff Omni Group create.
Feb 25, 2015 19:45
I've done some stuff in python before. Not my favourite language. Seems like Safari Books Online has that book. Gotta love Safari Books. :)
Feb 25, 2015 19:43
Thank you. I'll look that up.
Feb 25, 2015 19:41
awesome thanks!
Feb 25, 2015 19:40
Nope, anything goes, as long as it's within my limited coding skillset. Web's preferable for that reason :)
Feb 25, 2015 19:36
I'm trying to figure out what's the learning curve on that. Whether it's the right way to go for trying to show something like this: topgrading.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/…
Feb 25, 2015 19:35
@JohnGB I gather you have experience working with D3?
Feb 25, 2015 18:26
Everything besides the font is good. It seems like the designer is still tweaking things.
Feb 25, 2015 00:38
The answer pages are a little better, but the number counts on the main page are hair line thin. And I'm not even that old... x-X
Feb 25, 2015 00:37
My eyes! The font weight's now way too thin.
Feb 20, 2015 17:25
Hmmm, well then I'm not sure I agree with that line of thinking. Frustrate users vs the perceive sense of extra security. Call me naive, but I feel you can educate the users and provide secure default settings and not have to deal with this.
Feb 20, 2015 17:18
Ewww Jon, no please, no :P
Feb 20, 2015 17:18
Hmmm I agree you need speed bumps on sensitive transactions to notify user. Not sure what barrier to entry is suppose to refer to though.
Feb 20, 2015 17:12
@dnbrv I'm bouncing ideas myself with front-end devs between Foundation and Twitter Bootstrap. Bootstrap has the lead on more visual components but Foundation has better extendability.
Feb 20, 2015 17:09
@JonW Hard to rephrase. The best I can think of is to ask a more generic question of how to recruit and screen for testers in other countries. That might focus more on techniques as oppose to naming names for companies offering services.
Feb 16, 2015 20:03
@dnbrv Seems to be a perfect fit for the beta Project Management SE. pm.stackexchange.com Is it possible to migrate it?
Feb 13, 2015 00:54
Is banning even a thing here? He's sounding like a troll. Really.
Feb 12, 2015 23:13
Fair enough. :)
Feb 12, 2015 22:28
Getting answers for advanced questions is another thing we're not very good at here. But that's another issue
Feb 12, 2015 22:26
Well I'm thinking of those really simple questions where most of us will "just know". It makes total sense to be asked here as resources for people learning about ux.
Feb 12, 2015 22:24
gotcha
Feb 12, 2015 22:23
Yeah, I think general usage of icons is okay myself.
Feb 12, 2015 22:23
Hmmm about the UX practitioner part. I wonder if it should be broader and just be for anybody who's interested in UX. The UX community is quite small.
Feb 12, 2015 22:19
So question on the process... what happens after this discussion? Seems like most people agree on the whole.
Feb 12, 2015 22:17
Thanks for the link.
Feb 12, 2015 22:16
Okay :)
Feb 12, 2015 22:16
@JohnGB Not saying you're not doing a good job. I'm just wondering if our rules are a bit too strict and should be looked at again.
Feb 12, 2015 22:14
@JohnGB Yes, haters will be haters. I'm wondering though if we somehow give off the vibe of being an exclusive Q&A site and whether that hurts traffic.
Feb 12, 2015 21:08
@CharlesWesley Ah, that stuff was above my pay grade back when I was working in that company.
Feb 12, 2015 21:07
Thanks @JohnGB Anything to extend my lunch break ;)
Feb 12, 2015 21:06
On this note, some of the comments about UX.SE being "closed" and narrow minded bothers me though. ux.stackexchange.com/questions/73515/… Not sure if it's at all related.
Feb 12, 2015 20:56
It's definitely slower as compared to last year.
Feb 12, 2015 20:48
@dnbrv +1 thanks!
