"Can man create a machine so smart that he can't fool it?" may one day replace that paradox about God and stones.

+1 for completeness, though I would like to add that if the question had been asked a few decades back the answer would be different. The beauty of Mendeleev's table was the fact that there were gaps. We knew there were elements to be discovered, and we knew some of their properties, such as, they'd be an alkaline metal. But unfortunately, they've all been filled now. And no miracle fuel.

Welcome to the site! Good first question. You are right that nukes wouldn't harm a star since they are essentially massive nukes themselves. If it were me, I'd create a wormhole between the target star and a far more massive star to deplete its fuel until it no longer had enough to sustain a nuclear reaction. But that's just me.

First off, I too want to know why you want to mandate this (and with all the sympathy in the world, as I find vegetarians to be insufferably pretentious), but better yet I wonder about what has got to be your follow up: Given public meat-fests and smart toilets with enzyme tests, how does your subversive sneak tofu into his diet undetected, NAY! how does he sneak tofu into the ruling party's own food supply? Since tofu is notoriously adaptable as an ingredient, it could be in the meatball, or the sauce, or the pasta! You'll never know until it's too late!

@Joshua, it happens at exactly the same moment, whatever time it is. Scientists all over the world will coordinate with atomic clocks to discover that with certainty.

Thanks @TimB, I didn't realize it was the first! It is my first ever gold badge though, and I'll wear it with pride.

@MarvMills Thanks a bunch! I will definitely be writing this up, but not right away. I'm finishing up a bunch of short stories, but this one is going to have to be a novel. There are a few quotes like yours and Rick Dever's that ought to go on the sleeve, and I'll definitely mention this forum in the thanks. :D

@GorchestopherH Interesting point about children, and exactly what I was looking for. I think you still gain from rearing them, after all, they remember what they are taught, and the reason an 8-year old is immature is lack of experience. If they remember the last 20 years, they are essentially adults in a pre-pubescent body. Binging won't last long, I'd imagine, as it is ultimately unsatisfying.
