"Amazon US does not keep PII of people in Europe"... well, unless they are required to do so for instance because of US anti-terror laws, FISA, Clould Act or what have you. In that case they are going to blatantly violate the GDPR and not inform anybody about it.

Dec 21, 2022 19:54
It is clearly doxxing and also probably illegal in several countries (including the whole of EU). Doxxing is bad, even if we don't like the victim (like in this case).

Jul 18, 2022 17:28
"doesn't distinguish between controllers that are entities/LLCs and controllers who are natural persons" The GDPR does not apply if your activity is done for personal or household purposes.

@FishSaidNo re: "If they intentionally did so [...] would there be grounds for counter-suit for violating the TOS"... Do you mean I can just write in the TOS of my website "If you are FBI or any other LE officer you are prohibited from accessing this site"?
Jul 18, 2022 17:26
@Charles you don't need to remove user generated content, you only need to remove PII.

As a computer scientist and software developer I too sometimes make light hearted jokes about computer engineers, but... In all seriousness how on Earth did this person manage to get an engineering degree without knowing about SQL injections or some of the basic stuff you mention? O.O

Maybe publishers might start to actually pay people who currently work for free (i.e. reviewers) instead of profiting of someone else's job with almost 0 expenses.

@Tinkeringbell actually, re-thinking about how people see the values of my contributions here, it would be much better if it were deleted. But whaterver.
Jul 12, 2018 17:56
I am not that great in English but it was just a hypothetical sentence :)
Jul 12, 2018 17:56
@Tinkeringbell yes, you are correct, I know I can't, I was just saying it might as well be... because it's worthless, so leaving it or not wouldn't be any different
Jul 12, 2018 17:53
@Tinkeringbell my only answer might as well be deleted, nobody will miss it.
Jul 12, 2018 17:26
@Tinkeringbell I am not sure I understand what you mean. I'd rather delete my activity, not my upvotes. Upvotes are beneficial to other users. If my upvotes are deleted, these users are going to get damaged from a rep POV.
Jul 12, 2018 16:59
the weirdest thing is that votes are not preserved but content is... anyhow, I just need to figure out a way to abandon this place permanently.
Jul 12, 2018 16:59
also you are right about the "highly active", I just do not know how much active I have been with upvotes.
Jul 12, 2018 16:58
@scohe001 does that mean then the account remains active, with votes, but unlinked?
Jul 12, 2018 16:55
I am trying to figure out if I can delete my account without damaging those I upvoted. But I probably can't because votes seem to vanish with account deletions, so I guess I will just avoid logging in in the future.
Jul 12, 2018 16:54
@Tinkeringbell hi, nice to see you here. I just wanted to reach out to thank you for the help you provided
May 20, 2018 20:48
@Tinkeringbell I also have to go. Thanks for being part of IPS, if all were like you the website would be much better and inclusive
May 20, 2018 20:47
Then the comment purpose was reached and I am happy about it. What I really hate is some (only a couple) of mods here going trigger happy with the delete button way before the clarification requests serve any useful purpose. Then they have an attitude which is not nice and they think they are gods
May 20, 2018 20:42
Fine, but IIRC I actually got an answer to my comment so the clarification was given / suggestion was taken into account. I believe, I don't remember precisely to be sure...
May 20, 2018 20:39
I mean, in my country each parent keeps their own surname, it has nothing to do with chidren
May 20, 2018 20:39
it still fails to address why would chidren be relevant at all, but no problem
May 20, 2018 20:39
OK
May 20, 2018 20:35
@Tinkeringbell if the comment was left under an answer, then I guess I was asking the person who answered why they were mentioning children at all
May 20, 2018 20:34
sorry I confused with the question asker
May 20, 2018 20:34
oh wait
May 20, 2018 20:33
@Tinkeringbell no, the answerer wrote "by the way I am not planning to have children" and after that I asked why she was mentioning children
May 20, 2018 20:31
@Sid yes but not all mods are the same, a selected few routinely show sheriff-like behavior. Other are very very good.
May 20, 2018 20:30
As a side note, I also avoid a mod user that is a SE employee due to insuliting remarksand then locked the thread immediately after. Luckily this happened on Ask Ubuntu so my flags were handled immediately and the comments got deleted right away.
May 20, 2018 20:29
Better safe than sorry
May 20, 2018 20:28
@Tinkeringbell I usually avoid discussing mods on meta precisely because I care about my account and don't want to get banned.
May 20, 2018 20:26
you will probably find some comments that were left intentionally even if I knew they were going to be deleted. Occasionally it happened I did that, but don't ban me for that please :P And of course I am not referring to those ones in my messages above.

Most of my comments across the SE network are "could you please clarify [this and that]?" so those are what I am referring to
May 20, 2018 20:23
Woah IPS is changing :D
May 20, 2018 20:23
Seriously?
May 20, 2018 20:23
Holy smokes :O A comment I left asking for clarification 2 days ago is still there and it even got upvoted????
May 20, 2018 20:22
@ArtOfCode "I don't think this bit is good" looks nothing like a clarification request, so why are you bringing this up?
May 20, 2018 20:21
@Tinkeringbell I saw who the author is and stopped. No actually I read it, but I found it funny because that's exactly the user that deletes the most "asking for clarification" comments
May 20, 2018 20:20
@ArtOfCode I have already read it
May 20, 2018 20:19
If a question lacks details I don't even care anymore, I just go on with other stuff.
May 20, 2018 20:19
@Tinkeringbell not really. Lately, I've been avoiding commenting on IPS except in a few circumstances, because I know that those couple of mods are still around and so it's pointless to even ask for clarification if OP is never going to see the clarification request.
May 20, 2018 20:17
@ArtOfCode I know what I write in comments. Most of the time it's for clarification. Sometimes it's for suggesting improvement (BTW bad choice of wording, the current button suggests the only possible comments are those suggesting improvements but that's not how the rules are... asking for clarification is also permitted)
May 20, 2018 20:16
useless comments can be deleted straight away, as well as rants, but those asking for clarifications should be left for a little while because that's precisely what comments are for
May 20, 2018 20:15
@ArtOfCode not "any", but when someone leaves comments asking for clarification, OP should at least be given a few hours to provide the clarification. Especially when it's needed to properly answer.
May 20, 2018 20:14
@Tinkeringbell most of the time, the comments get deleted before the OP can answer. This is what I don't like.
May 20, 2018 20:13
@ArtOfCode yeah, although there is a difference between being strict and being harsh. I participate also in other strict sites on the network.
May 20, 2018 20:12
@Tinkeringbell young? If the digits in your email have something to do with your age, I am afraid we are old the same... and we are getting more towards 30 than 20 :O :P just kidding
May 20, 2018 20:10
Compare to Academia or Travel, or whatever, when if you have something relevant to add to complement the information in some answer (like backing up with source! eheh), or if you need clarification from a question, you can comment and generally speaking it is well received
May 20, 2018 20:09
To date I've learnt to simply check what diamond mod has "pruned" the previous comments, if any, and then I decide if I want to comment or not. I avoid engaging with the harsher ones entirely, because it provides for an unpleasant experience
May 20, 2018 20:08
@Tinkeringbell as far as my experience goes, every time I see you moderating some posts and cleaning up comments you are always balanced, polite and friendly

Jun 18, 2018 23:13
@PhilMiller if that's the case, continuously interrupting OP doesn't seem a good way to get issues fixed faster.
