not finding a good explanation of bare rebar - accucutla.com/which-types-of-rebar-are-used-in-concrete - stainless steel sounds expensive and not needed
Apr 12, 2021 19:07
my plan was a grid of rebar on the floor, what, every 12-16 inches? bend it up the sides into the walls and into the cavities of the concrete block
Apr 12, 2021 19:07
@Shalvenay thanks for the reply! so equipotential means a grid of equal spacing? should be doable, no ?

I see it as 90% labor and labor that they charge a ton for. I feel a bunch of stuff that may be cost prohibitive if i have someone do it (ie: swim up bar) would be relatively cheap if i do it (2ft diameter cardboard concrete tubes / some rebar and just a cap piece for the stools)
Apr 9, 2021 19:59
just curious - a: anyone here done it b: thickness of floor concrete, c: any problems you ran into?
Apr 9, 2021 19:58
People who would choose not to keep their opinions to theirselves (dad) think concrete block with rebar with cavities filled won't be strong enough to hold the water (about 26ft x 12 ft x 5 feet deep) - plenty of youtube videos show concrete block is perfectly fine to build a pool with

I'm very much on the fence. We want to build a inground pool (in florida) - obviously because of the climate, a very common thing to do. And as most know, sky is the limit on price which is my problem. We're trying to refinance the house / cash out payment - but, if that falls through, i may just build the damn thing myself.
Apr 9, 2021 19:56
Anyone have any experience with foundations in Florida ?
Apr 9, 2021 19:55
woah - long time since i've been here - nice to see some familiar faces :)

dad and i think it looks good - we think them being on the same groute line per say makes the mosaic and pencil standout even more.
Aug 25, 2016 09:39
the wife spent 40 minutes ish giving me shit - looking at the 2 vertical tiles on either side of the mosaic - she was pissed their not staggered to each other - not understanding or not agreeing that we staggered them to the ones next to them - so the one on the left is staggered to the last one on the left wall and the 1 on the right is staggered to the one next to it to the right

1 more night on the shower tile hopefully

we're considering redoing the fireplace mantel / wall / bookshelves so we'll see. if i can get all of that out pretty easily, then the duct will be fully exposed / easier to take out - but, 1 project at a time.
Aug 25, 2016 09:36
@Tester101 no it's not - 4-5 feet of it are hindered by the fireplace mantel / bookshelves, when it gets to the ceiling, it makes a right hand turn and 3 feet through the first floor ceiling / 2nd floor floor, then another 3 or 4 feet up the 2nd floor wall - nothing in the basement is covered in abspestos so thats good
Aug 20, 2016 00:33
so... um... no.
Aug 20, 2016 00:33
the quote i got today was $2000 minimum and $400 each before and after if its greater then 10 sq ft of removal, which it is
Aug 19, 2016 12:41
@Tester101 your still in buffalo right? know anyone for asbestos removal ? trying to have a HVAC company repair a duct to the master bedroom and they wont touch it cause it's wrapped in that crap - and i sure as well dont want to try to remove it myself
Aug 18, 2016 15:01
clear labels worked out though

Aug 18, 2016 14:59
point taken. u know how these old houses are in buffalo - balloon framing; nothing 16 inches on center; every room out of square, etc... we really looked at every wall to put it that made sense

Aug 17, 2016 16:48
maybe take a few pictures of the chair and run it through a reverse image search?
Aug 17, 2016 16:47
i thought i saw an interior design exchange way back when but maybe it never got out of area 51
Aug 17, 2016 16:44
i think that would be considered off-topic but maybe wait for someone much more involved to answer

water proof wise, this a solid 1 piece molded box - point being, instead of building a niche out of 2x4s, plywood, water proofing it, etc... this just screws in; silicon between the concrete / plastic and good to go
Aug 17, 2016 12:30
didn't - no room and no where else the niche could go without restructuring another wall (cutting out a 2x4) - not to concerned - its 1/4 pvc plastic (needed a special epoxy to apply the tile) so i can't imagine to much air / whatever coming through
Aug 16, 2016 12:15
drywall / concrete board done - need to tape and mud but should be ready by the time dad can tile next tuesday
Aug 16, 2016 12:15
Aug 16, 2016 12:14
i ordered some transparent label tape for my labeler - should be here tomorrow - cut them nicely and put them on the switches; should look good. better then nothing and for the wife and i, no big deal, but all i need is a guest turning on the heater or the towel warmer and leaving it on for hours
Aug 15, 2016 09:53
wonder if theres a nice way to label all the switches - custom face plate or something
Aug 15, 2016 09:51
electrical done; finished framing (had to build a false wall on the right of the tub / shim out the back wall of the tub for the tile) - tonight, we drywall / concrete board!!!

dont get me wrong; i love having my own office - i've turned down jobs because now that i have my own office, i don't want to loose it - but WHO the hell installs an 8 inch ? duct in an office 7 feet wide by 10 feet long?!? Freezing in here.

Aug 11, 2016 10:39
tile is travertine
Aug 11, 2016 10:39

Aug 11, 2016 10:35
Aug 9, 2016 20:40
they claim it can heat and suck without just sucking the heat back in - we'll see - either way, turn on the heater for 10 minutes before hand then flip it when actually taking a shower
Aug 9, 2016 13:22
how close can i put outlets to the sink? gonna go try to pick out the vanity / sink today - can i put a 2 gang right above the sink / back splash so long as its gfci ?
Aug 9, 2016 13:18
i dont want to do a 3 gang box and a 2 gang box below it - i dont think it'll be very visually appealing
Aug 9, 2016 13:16
she wanted 2 sets of outlets - think she can only have 1. with all that, i've maxed out a 4 gang box / lucky if i can fit all the wire in it (got a deeper one)
Aug 9, 2016 13:13
we're doing a towel warmer - so i'll need to wire a switch for that. 2 recessed lights, a switch for that
Aug 9, 2016 13:12
is the fan i went with - it has 2 - 2 switch switches - light, night light, fan, heater - so thats 2 gang
