-1. I don't agree with the "99.9%" chance that someone isn't cheating bit. They literally sell sets of weighted 4d6 called character builders, what makes you think that people won't cheat if you're easy on them?

Not a bar, but plays one on TV

I'm not a place to unwind after work, but I play one on TV.
Jan 29, 2018 13:09
Doesn't really do us well to continue discussing it then
Jan 29, 2018 13:09
Hm
Jan 29, 2018 13:06
Where do you live? The UK?
Jan 29, 2018 13:04
Which are you more like Kviiri? Jared or Ed?
Jan 29, 2018 13:03
It isn't equal. But I've already argued that true equality is an impossible outcome. Instead, it tries to be as fair as it can be.
Jan 29, 2018 13:01
The rich person is through their own resources "teaching another man to fish"
Jan 29, 2018 13:00
In the instances in which scholarships are given to exceptional individuals the people who generally pay for those scholarships are rich people who had to climb up from where Jared once was
Jan 29, 2018 12:57
But you created a hypothetical of extremes
Jan 29, 2018 12:57
I'm not saying that it doesn't
Jan 29, 2018 12:57
You created a hypothetical scenario in which Jared was given everything and Ed had nothing though
Jan 29, 2018 12:56
The character and traits of the rich Jared would make him an entirely different person than Ed who had to work for everything his entire life
Jan 29, 2018 12:55
In this instance however you can't accurately judge Jared or Ed because it's purely a hypothetical scenario.
Jan 29, 2018 12:55
Scholarships would give Jared just as much of a chance to succeed if he studied and applied himself as Ed. There's a good chance that even with the expensive schooling and finances that Ed could still fail if he didn't work hard or apply himself. If Jared maintained very high grades up until the point where he was 16 he could easily apply for scholarships and grants that would allow him to reach a point where he could compete with Ed.

There was a paradigm shift in feminism within the last few years. People who previously identified themselves as feminists gradually began distancing themselves from the movement because the leaders of the feminists didn't disown or discount the ideas or tactics used by the radicals within their own movement
Jan 29, 2018 12:47
First and second wave feminism? Sure. Third wave feminism? No. There are women who intentionally disassociate themselves with current feminism because it isn't fighting for the things it used to.
Jan 29, 2018 12:46
Feminism as it is in its current iteration is no longer that word
Jan 29, 2018 12:46
You could also say Humanist would be that word
Jan 29, 2018 12:46
Egalitarianism is that word BESW
Jan 29, 2018 12:46
Quote me an opportunity in which it would come at the expense of society if it had an equal chance of happening to anyone?
Jan 29, 2018 12:43
Creating a system that tries to create equality of opportunity doesn't really come at the expense of anyone.
Jan 29, 2018 12:42
Some are smarter than others
Jan 29, 2018 12:42
All people are not equal
Jan 29, 2018 12:42
Because you would have to create a system that does things to one person to the detriment of another to create such a system
Jan 29, 2018 12:42
It's impossible to be completely equal
Jan 29, 2018 12:41
At most I might change the minds of one person that doesn't agree
Jan 29, 2018 12:41
Quoting statistics isn't going to do much to solve problems
Jan 29, 2018 12:40
I can agree with you there Doppel
Jan 29, 2018 12:39
That doesn't prove anything. Whites account for over 70% of the US population. If you totaled up the wages of all white people, all black people, and all hispanics white people would make ~70% more.
Jan 29, 2018 12:37
Cherry picking instances of inequality between sexes being biased towards helping women at the expense of men doesn't demonstrate anything other than the statistics existing?
Jan 29, 2018 12:35
About 57% of college graduates are women.
Jan 29, 2018 12:35
There are many many more scholarships and grants that target women to influence them towards higher education than there are men
Jan 29, 2018 12:34
Well I'll call a few examples into question about how things are biased towards women and you can stop me whenever you hear enough
Jan 29, 2018 12:33
Then what specifically are you referring to when calling into question "contributing factors"?
Jan 29, 2018 12:33
Are you perhaps referring to a smaller amount of female candidates in CEO positions across the continental united states?
Jan 29, 2018 12:32
In reference to what is the latter half of your sentence pointing towards, Kviiri?
Jan 29, 2018 12:31
It is, tangentially.
Jan 29, 2018 12:31
But it does happen both ways
Jan 29, 2018 12:30
Well in a society based mostly in meritocracy, where the best possible candidate is chosen regardless of sex, race, orientation, or political affiliation, where the law protects against discrimination based on these things, would you not consider that to be "as close as you can get to equality of opportunity"?
Jan 29, 2018 12:28
Nope doesn't really prove your point.
Jan 29, 2018 12:28
Instead of saying Nope why don't you actually contribute to the discussion, Kviiri?
Jan 29, 2018 12:26
It isn't cultural inequality, The United states is about as close as you can get to equality of opportunity.
Jan 29, 2018 12:25
Generally the reason behind that trope is due to sexual dimorphism, not political inequality
Jan 29, 2018 12:23
Is there a similar prize for books that don't do the same things to men? Not really, no. Does it ignore the fact that in non-reciprocated domestic violence the woman in the relationship is more likely to be the perpetrator? Probably. Because that isn't a statistic that people who write clickbaity feminist articles generally focus on because it disproves their narrative that we live in a patriarchy focused on oppressing women.
Jan 29, 2018 12:20
For example, the subtext to that link you posted is "The Staunch book prize has been founded to honour books where ‘no woman is beaten, stalked, sexually exploited, raped or murdered
Jan 29, 2018 12:20
And while I do not share the opinion that only losers care about stuff, there are a group of people who would gladly completely ignore taking into account the opposite side of things who would peddle their beliefs to others for upward mobility in their own political group, and that link seems very likely to be a thing that could be held to contention
Jan 29, 2018 12:15
Awards are about nominating something for being better at something than something else generally
Jan 29, 2018 12:12
..So its a virtue signaling award?

Today, thousands of people showed up for the 46th annual Ninja parade, in which a parade of ninjas moved throughout the town of San Diego completely undetected.
