We spoil our pets. She was partially paralyzed, so my husband built her some carpeted stairs so she could get up in her recliner. (We had replaced those with new ones for ourselves)
They turn dark - but you have to get them quick, because they go from perfect to overripe very fast. We grow them mostly because it’s part of my husband’s American Italian heritage-the families all seem to have a fig tree :) I’m not sure why exactly
@Lambie We have two - they survived last winter in pots we moved close to the house. We put them in the ground late summer. They look like twigs right now and they are a Chicago variety that is supposed to be hardy through lot colder winters than we get, so we'll see.
I just learned these are called "midi notebooks". Half the pages are ruled and half are blank. I just bought them because I'm a fan of Klimt's Golden Phase.
Anyhow, I think ELL is doing work just as important as SO with a fraction of the attention because it's a lot harder to teach someone to speak/read/write English than give them a snippet of code they can use to solve their immediate work problem :)
How important is speaking fluent English globally? I keep thinking of a Japanese rock band that was awesome but didn't get widespread attention because they didn't have any songs in English
ELL could evolve into something so much more, but it's held back by corporate leadership with very little imagination when it comes to ways to make money
@Laurel Right, it's only for paying customers while they keep claiming they're still all about building a library of knowledge for humanity. It's why I don't participate any more :(
