@Chiquis Everyone seems to agree you should read the VN first if possible. I watched the 2006 anime, then Fate/Zero. If you can't play the visual novel, I would say do the 2006 anime or Fate/Zero first; I wouldn't advise starting with the 2014 anime. If you have no exposure at all to the franchise, the 2006 anime is tolerable, and it might be good to start there so it's not as disappointing after Fate/Zero, which has much better production values and a story that gets going faster. You could also start with Fate/Zero without missing too much.

We now know that Ufotable's adaptation follows Unlimited Blade Works. This preview guide based on the first episode says it's so-so as an entry point for new viewers, but still equal to Fate/Zero in terms of general quality. Now that I've watched (half of) Fate/Zero, I can say that Fate/Zero does pretty well introducing Rin, even giving her an episode of her own, so for people coming in cold who don't want to read the VN, I'd probably say start with Fate/Zero.

I'll probably follow your advice, watch Fate/Zero, catch the new anime when it comes out, and maybe try to get the visual novel sometime in the future. I'll wait a little while to see if anyone else wants to chime in, and probably accept this answer.

Thanks, good answer. I watched the 2006 anime again recently and was struck by how bad the fight scenes looked--almost DBZ levels of badness. My memory had somehow made them much cooler. There were some weird plot holes and threads that never went anywhere, too.

This is also the only answer I've seen that directly focuses on the culture and history of the language, as asked, instead of narrowly focusing in in the tuple example.

@Hakase I genuinely enjoy K-On and its music. I hide that from people I know in real life because it's incredibly embarrassing. Contrary to the idea that people pretend to like that stuff to be a part of some group, I've always found it very isolating and lonely.

@Memor-X My memories of X/1999 are pretty dim but I don't remember a single yuri couple in that series. Every couple I remember is man/woman and then I think there was a character who was in love with her computer (that had metal tentacles).

@AyaseEri if someone upvotes one of my questions and I accept an answer I can make 7777!

I flagged vlq. It's nonsense.

G'night, have a nice sleep.

That'll do it :0

Mayoi Jiangshi, which I thought was one of the weakest stories, was just so bloated in the novel with Koyomi and Shinobu squabbling. The anime cut it right down to the point where it was actually okay.
Sep 18, 2016 23:07
Yeah. I skipped them when I watched Second Season.
Sep 18, 2016 23:06
The later light novels also have a huge problem with bloat that the anime cuts through, though it was annoying when they cut too much and then filled in with review episodes.

Monogatari was adapted by a really talented team, so it had an advantage over stuff adapted by the usual hacks.
Sep 18, 2016 22:59
I might check that out too. Put that Crunchyroll premium subscription to use.
Sep 18, 2016 22:41
There's a lot of potential in manga, but being in black and white and being produced on the insane weekly schedule really limits them.
Sep 18, 2016 22:40
For a while I was super into manga, though.
Sep 18, 2016 22:40
I've always been more into anime too, and I really started to have a hard time getting into manga after I read some Western comics and saw what they do with their art.
Sep 18, 2016 21:56
And I thought we'd had some intense meta discussions.

Q: How should answers that advocate violence be handled

Anthonyhow to handle a Misbehaviour from senior colleague? Recently the user @Kilisi posted an answer in the link above stating that the OP should have slapped the aggressor back. @Taisho Shocking when a title just appears in midair like that.
Sep 18, 2016 21:48
Even technically; I was expecting the animation to look a lot worse than it did but the art style was still really powerful.
Sep 18, 2016 21:47
I watched the first few episodes again recently and it really held up for me.
Sep 18, 2016 21:47
And X-Men, and Powerpuff Girls.
Sep 18, 2016 21:46
I still love the first few seasons of the 1990s Batman cartoon.
Sep 18, 2016 21:45
Yeah, I stay away from IMDB for anything I don't want to be spoiled on.
Sep 18, 2016 21:44
American Dad had more good jokes but it kinda started running out of steam for me.
Sep 18, 2016 21:44
I used to live in a small town where people believe in crazy supernatural stuff, so Gravity Falls was really true to life for me.
Sep 18, 2016 21:42
Yeah, I don't really get into most American animated comedies. South Park and The Simpsons are okay sometimes, but I'm not in love with them, and Family Guy just has too few good jokes.
Sep 18, 2016 21:41
It's kinda funny because he lets them watch The Walking Dead, but he thinks Adventure Time is too mature.
Sep 18, 2016 21:41
So Rick and Morty is right out :)
Sep 18, 2016 21:41
They have, but my dad thinks it's a little too mature for them so he doesn't let them watch it.
Sep 18, 2016 21:40
I've only seen a few episodes of Steven Universe but I didn't really get into it. I was glad when my younger siblings started watching it, though; they have really garbage taste in general, and it's so, so much better than what they usually watch.
Sep 18, 2016 21:34
I'm honestly kinda burnt out on anime atm so I went back and watched all the comic book movies I missed this summer. Just saw Batman v Superman last night.
Sep 18, 2016 21:33
Not that it's a great show aside from cute characters.
Sep 18, 2016 21:33
Watch the show, she's even cuter in motion.
Sep 18, 2016 21:31
@Hakase Sorry I missed that session on worst ids. But yeah, seriously, the question is "I saw this anime. What was it called?" I don't think I could even make up one that bad.
Sep 17, 2016 00:26
Anyone have an opinion on The Witch and the Hundred Knight? I'm thinking of getting it.

I'm holding back so many sarcastic comments on that Steins;Gate question. I'm half-convinced that person just wanted to brag that they have a girlfriend who's a software engineer.
Sep 9, 2016 04:22
Some were even forced to watch reality TV. "It's torture!" declared one. "Anime is unreality TV! This is why 3D women are terrible!"

I watch anime on the train. It's nice to have regular headphones for that and not have to remember an extra adapter or make sure my Bluetooth headphones are charged.

I use a Macbook so I'm not completely anti-Apple.

My coworkers are all huge Apple fans so they don't appreciate that I use Android. So I usually have to duck rotting vegetables when I bring it up.
