TRPG General Chat

Main chat room for tabletop role-playing games. Anyone can ask...

Answering my own question - it was dead earth
Aug 25, 2023 03:52
What was the name of that unplayable RPG that had a chat room here dedicated to character creation?
Apr 28, 2023 01:24
Some class features are now class-specific spells instead, it's a bit weird
Apr 28, 2023 01:12
@AncientSwordRage yes, a pretty big one this time. Warlocks, fighters, barbarians, wizards, sorcerers, weapon properties, Weapon Mastery, some class-specific spells.
Apr 27, 2023 00:55
@NautArch as long as it doesn't have the pellet with the poison (I'm not over 50 either)
Apr 17, 2023 06:56
@GcL I really hate how everything is a Discord instead of a forum these days... Discord is for near-real-time communication, forums are for longer timespans.
Apr 13, 2023 01:40
I'll have to try reading it again, it didn't click with me last time. I think it took a while for me to get into The Killing Moon, too. I like Jemisin's writing, it's just a less easy read than some.
Apr 11, 2023 01:10
@BESW in what way? (I have it, but haven't looked at it yet)
Apr 11, 2023 00:57
Neither is exactly the same as multiclassing or gestalt in 3e & later
Apr 11, 2023 00:31
@Zachiel actually, it's the other way around. AD&D multiclassing (which is only available to non-humans) has you divide your XP among several classes & progress all of them at once. Dual classing (which is for humans only) has you stop progressing in your original class & take a new one.
Apr 6, 2023 01:10
Also, this must be A Sign Of The End Times™ - the Not A Bar has been frozen for inactivity
Apr 6, 2023 01:09
@Zachiel Likes D&D 3.5e but finds Pathfinder 1e too complex - there's not a LOT of difference between the two...
Apr 5, 2023 07:41
@BESW theresattrpgforthat.tumblr.com/rss looks like a valid RSS feed?
Mar 22, 2023 04:14
TIL there is a @trogdor boardgame
Mar 20, 2023 23:20
For those who like D&D 4e, Bundle of Holding has a bundle of Goodman Games 4e supplements & adventures
Mar 20, 2023 23:16
@KorvinStarmast I assume they've already approved a 3rd season, because the last episode of S2 was half tying up plot threads, and the other half introducing a bunch of new ones.
Mar 20, 2023 00:43
Sounds like the main plot of Six of Crows will be a big part of season 3. Interested to see how well they adapt it.
Mar 20, 2023 00:42
I just finished watching Shadow & Bone season 2. Very enjoyable. I watched S1, loved the Crows, found out they're from a spinoff book series, so read those (still haven't read the original trilogy). Kind of disappointed that they didn't do a more accurate adaptation of those books... but on the other hand, I get to see these characters in new adventures!

Is anyone able to thaw the One D&D Survey Suggestions room? They released a new playtest document today, so I'm sure people will want to discuss it.
Feb 24, 2023 04:47
@Alan We called it Rollmaster
Feb 23, 2023 06:12
With the number of D&D clones around (and more on the way, thanks to the OGL debacle), some people have asked, why not ditch the old 3-18 attributes and just keep the bonuses. I was trying to find a way to roll up scores on that scale (-3 to +4) while still staying kind of close to the 3d6/4d6 curve. Looks like 1d5-1d4 is fairly close, and (highest 1 of 2d5) - (highest 1 of 2d4) is even closer. anydice.com/program/2de9f

I was looking for the open source TTRPG jam I saw on itch.io a month or two ago. I fell down the rabbithole of itch jams... and found this: 3rd Party Content For "5E" Game Jam (no, not that 5e)
Feb 20, 2023 06:17
Bother. I was writing an answer and the question got deleted.
Feb 19, 2023 23:50
@Alan I think it's "until they meet adventurers" ;)
Feb 19, 2023 23:49
@Alan I haven't read any of Bujold's SF, but her fantasy is great. Reading Penric's Progress now.
Feb 17, 2023 01:20
@Alan got it already, thanks :)
Feb 17, 2023 00:53
@Alan Good answer. I'm just starting to learn PF2e. I've got as far as character creation... (I'm using an app, but I've read enough of the book that I think I understand the underlying rules.)
Feb 16, 2023 00:30
I've heard good things about Attack the Block, haven't seen it yet
Feb 15, 2023 23:39
Speaking of urban fantasy/supernatural... has anyone watched Lockwood & Co? I really enjoyed it, some interesting worldbuilding. A friend has read some of the books & said the TV show changes some things but makes it better.
Feb 10, 2023 05:22
@Alan Not off the top of my head. And with a quick search, I only found innate spellcasting. There's no index/search that I can find that includes "<class> spellcasting" as a filter.
Feb 7, 2023 02:41
@BESW Kobolds Ate My Baby has a new edition in BackerKit right now
Jan 31, 2023 03:45
I made some characters to get the feel of it. Trying to match D&D stereotypes as close as possible, to lure my players in... I made a barbarian-like character - a Mighty Warrior who Rages; and a rogue-like character - a Graceful Explorer (with stealth flavour) who Explores Dark Places.
Jan 31, 2023 03:42
And it's a setting-neutral system, with genre guides for fantasy, scifi, historical, etc
Jan 31, 2023 03:41
It has a nice balance between crunch & narrative (somewhere between D&D and Fate, say). Sounds like DM prep will be easier than D&D. It still uses d20-roll-high, so it's not too foreign for D&D players. And it has some interesting character options.
Jan 31, 2023 03:37
I've been reading the Cypher system. Haven't played it yet, but it sounds good.

 One D&D survey suggestions

Room to discuss what feedback to give One D&D surveys
Apr 27, 2023 02:16
Initial thoughts:
- LOTS of changes!
- I like Weapon Mastery.
- at first I thought they let you pick multiple warlock Pacts, but no. They're "warlock spells" but you can only learn them from the Pact feature (your normal spell choices are from "arcane spells").
Apr 27, 2023 02:12
Just had a quick read-through of the latest playtest.
Apr 11, 2023 23:04
@AncientSwordRage the Wildshape changes seem fairly unpopular
Apr 6, 2023 01:11
@AncientSwordRage the paladin & druid ones, or all of One D&D in general?
Feb 24, 2023 05:58
"You can use Divine Smite no more than once during a turn, and you can’t use it on the same turn that you cast a spell."
Feb 24, 2023 05:53
So, the new version of the Smite spells is interesting.
- Doesn't stack with Divine Smite
- Applies to melee or ranged weapons, or unarmed strikes
- Is cast as a bonus action after you hit (like a pseudo-reaction)

Feb 2, 2023 00:34
@Phoenices Well, yeah.
Feb 1, 2023 22:59
@KorvinStarmast Of course not. It's an Arcane Trickster using Mage Hand...

Not a bar, but plays one on TV

I'm not a place to unwind after work, but I play one on TV.

@SPArcheon yeah, I had huge problems making a leopard-skinned tabaxi without them wearing leopard-print clothing as well
