How do you know that you are running out of cache. And, how do you know it is slowing down. Post your evidence in the question, it will be relevant.
Feb 20, 2023 13:04
Your system should already be configured to cache writes (and reads) to RAM. It should use all available RAM.

Feb 25, 2022 15:05
substitute more for less. If that dose not work then substitute cat.
Feb 25, 2022 15:05
Oh I see that you typed printenv a little way down. So what generated the output above that?
Feb 25, 2022 15:05
In Unix, we don't need one program to do everything that we are trying to do. We put together programs like lego. E.g. read-file | write-file would read a file pass the data to the 2nd command that would write it. (sometimes, if all is simple, we can use one command such as cp)
Feb 25, 2022 15:05
What do you get if you do less /dev/mmcblk0p2 and less /dev/mtdblock5?
Feb 25, 2022 15:05
What command generated the output that you are showing? (context will help us interpret it)
Feb 25, 2022 15:05
Can you read from nand?

Feb 19, 2022 23:55
At least 4. I liked to read it, but don't see it as an answer.
Feb 19, 2022 23:55
@Mazura you say “teaching programing to people who don't know how to use a computer". Yes this is true. But if you are still using MS-Windows, then you also don't know how to use a computer. As you look down at the resents using just iOS, android, chrome-book, and web-browser, imagine those that are looking down on you.
Feb 19, 2022 23:55
While I agree that the MS-start menu is odd. I don't see an answer here.

@ScottRowe You are not the customer, you are the product. You have already been sold.

One last question. What dose the set-uid program exec? What program does it run?
Feb 8, 2021 14:56
I am out. I don't think I can persuade you of anything.
Feb 7, 2021 11:03
You say assuming it has no security holes. But that is the point. It has security hole, one big one that you I and billy could each drive a bus through at the same time.
Feb 7, 2021 11:01
Uncle billy is saying anyone will become able to run any code as root. This is also my understanding of the code. What is not being said "it will allow a user to run the intended code as root", while that statement is true. It also allows anyone that is on the system, to run any code as root.

I would have thought that running a program on a platform, while intimately depending on that platform, does not make your code GPL (e.g. a program that can only run on Linux (kernel), or only runs on Emacs ). However if you make modifications to the GPL program (e.g. so that it does part of the application logic), then it has an intimate connection (it knows about your program).

type strings "$(type -p realpath)" | less then see if you can work out what version it is from what you see.
Dec 1, 2020 01:23
Note the error massage is about --relative-to=… not existing. Something is wrong with the command. What is the output of type realpath.

--max-args=….
Aug 6, 2020 10:42
use the max args option.

Jun 23, 2020 10:02
What have you got working so far?
Jun 23, 2020 09:49
Yes it can work, if their ssh client is X11 aware (some times this feature is not available no MS-Windows (and probably mac) versions). Then you need to check the quality and availability of the X11 servers. Last time I looked (a long time ago. I have use virtualisation more recently), Xming's X11 server was OK. You need the quality to be high, so as not to put people off.
Jun 22, 2020 22:01
I am going off-line now, but will be back tomorrow.
Jun 22, 2020 22:00
If they are on MS-Windows or MacOs then there is nowhere to forward X11 to. Unless they install an X server (or run Gnu/Linux in a virtual machine, but then they don't need the server). They could use VNC, that is cross platform, but then you need to run a complete desktop for each logged in user. VNC shares the whole desktop (and there are viewers for MS-Windows, MacOs, Android, X11, …), X-forwarding works with individual programs (and works with X11). Both can be tunnelled over ssh.
Jun 22, 2020 21:43
As for availability I am still teaching for the next few week, but then is the summer holiday. I have some free time before that.
Jun 22, 2020 21:42
@BenI. is this ssh? OR ... You will have to define what you mean by X-Forwarding. Probably best to explain what you are trying to do.

Any idea what algorithm(s) sort uses internally?

Apr 10, 2020 15:56
Yes I agree, with it all. I think I was thinking of su as a thinner wrapper around setuid. So it sort of seemed more elegant. However now I think using the same command again, is the way to go. Is there anything that could be in the /etc/sudoers that would get in the way?
Apr 10, 2020 13:46
@StalinVigneshKumar That is what I thought, but then you said that you don't have to be root to run su. (true, but not relevant to what we were saying).
Apr 10, 2020 13:46
@terdon su has more than one use. Become root (obsoleted by sudo), become user B from user A (obsoleted by sudo), become user A or B from root (still useful).
Apr 10, 2020 13:46
@StalinVigneshKumar now I am confused. Why su? -- I thought you intended to run it in the script running as root.
Apr 10, 2020 13:46
@Terdon su does not need a password, if you are already root. The answer suggests using it to switch back to normal user, for a bit (though not clear).

Unix is an old system, that should have been replaced yours ago. Unfortunately it is the most modern system we have, and still years ahead of MS-Windows.It seems to have been at least 10 years ahead of MS for at least the last 30 years (probably longer).

I just checked and that IP address is serving https on port 2050.
Feb 20, 2020 22:18
also I am concerned about where you are testing from. On my setup if I try to connect to public address from inside, the port forwarding does not work. I connect to the router. This may be a problem for you also. Try testing from the out-side.
Feb 20, 2020 22:14
Is the Ubuntu on 192.168.1.35?
Feb 20, 2020 22:13
I note that the two ports produce different errors. Is ssh running on both ports on the Ubuntu.
Feb 20, 2020 22:12
Yes blind people find it hared to read text in an image.
Feb 20, 2020 21:20
Because when I connect to it (-vvv option), I get OpenSSH_7.9p1 Debian-10+deb10u2, OpenSSL 1.1.1d 10 Sep 2019 as first line.

Is your router running Debian 10?

Jan 15, 2020 23:10
Ensure that you update question with new details. I just re-read it and see nothing about disk space (is it full?, is it done?, what evidence?)
Jan 15, 2020 23:10
@user390072 Yes if everything is encrypted, then deleting files (safely) may not be possible.
Jan 15, 2020 23:10
I am confused, where did I say that. No you may not be able to move, because you have no space. If you create space, then I would expect (if this was the cause) it to work.
Jan 15, 2020 23:10
You can brute-force, if the key is weak. If it works, then it shows that you had false security. Yes un-archiving big files, takes a lot of storage-space. I like games as well. I don't understand the rest of you comment. I don't think that playing games is the problem. As I read this, I wonder it the problem is caused by running out of persistent-storage-space (disk space).
