@David please do.
Jan 19, 2020 19:05
You've used one of those mighty tools that moderators can use.
Jan 19, 2020 19:03
@David I no longer have a land line... contact me on a not public chat if you want.
Jan 19, 2020 18:56
@David I do not use
Jan 19, 2020 18:52
@David no sweat I have thick skin. Rename or delete as you wish I don't particularly care. But I can tell you that though it seems like is easy to spot the duplicates of this particular "tutorial" the search engine is not helpful at all. But I'm just a soul whose intentions are good...
Jun 22, 2019 00:55
@gandalf3 I wish I could upvote this again! blender.stackexchange.com/questions/2728/…
Jun 19, 2019 01:34
O mighty moderators @DuarteFarrajotaRamos, @David, or @gandalf3, in keeping with the intent of making this a friendlier site, maybe this post could be merged with the duplicate and re-opened so that the user might eventually get an answer...
Jun 5, 2019 16:15
@batFINGER an additional hurdle is that for some duplicates, the answer is slightly different now with 2.8
Jun 2, 2019 23:08
@gandalf3 I'd forgotten about gifcam... But I would need to install wine...
Jun 2, 2019 23:03
@gandalf3 I use Peek in Linux
Jun 2, 2019 22:55
@gandalf3 like old times... we posted at the same time... I'm sure this is a duplicate but I could not find it.
May 25, 2019 17:41
@RayMairlot thanks for the edits! Seems like creating a proper title to a question is not as straightforward as one would think.
May 25, 2019 16:13
@batFINGER no clue...
May 25, 2019 03:13
Ouch!

@DuarteFarrajotaRamos congratulations!

@David to comply with the "code of conduct"
Jun 21, 2018 02:39
@kimholder did you resolve your question on texture mapping and distortion on the Z axis? I was waiting for the blender institue's youtube channel to be back. You should watch Bartek Skorupa's video youtu.be/kAUmLcXhUj0?t=285
Jun 20, 2018 22:07
@kimholder I don't know... 2.8 is like starting over, and I don't think anyone is writing the new manual for that yet.
Jun 20, 2018 22:07
The most common mistake in my opinion is using tools without knowing what they do. Then using other unknown tools to fix the first problem and then blaming the software designers for the tool not working "as expected"
Jun 20, 2018 21:47
@kimholder there would be a lot more "this is broken, help!" questions if the questions were not edited... the most common question is a variation of "issue with blender" "problem with model" "imported model something something" and then donuts, anvils and "I'm following this tutorial but..."
Jun 18, 2018 16:26
@x-27 as you can see it has been inactive for a very long time...
Jun 18, 2018 03:01
Soo sad....

@GiantCowFilms @GiantCowFilms I've run into that quite often, where the question gets closed for different reasons that the one I was voting from. It seems like there is no automatic way to generate a message that combines more than one reason.
Jun 14, 2018 01:06
@GiantCowFilms when dealing with gis data, most formats like DEM or height maps is hard to escape the regular grid structure. Catmul Clark will give you less of that.

If you are going to use real information for the topology of the moon, it seems there is no need to re-invent the wheel. Nasa must have some DEM (digital elevation models) at different scales, once you figure out the projection you should be able to re-construct the shperoid that makes the planet and load only the pertinent information.
Jun 14, 2018 00:27
@kimholder it might be more efficient to do this with a displace modifier, since you can stack it between different subsurf modifiers to get the level of detail you need. Once you have something you can live with, apply the modifiers and decimate. The decimate modifier can help you get much better topology that adjusts to the shapes of the displacement.

3 versions will result in blend1, blendr2 and blend3 files...
Dec 31, 2019 21:53
@kimholderwantsMonicaback I don't think there is much to do about the lost file, but in the future having more versions of autosave might help you backtrack to safety.
Dec 31, 2019 21:38
Keep the autosave function on and increase the number of "saved versions" on the autosave section of the system preferences...
Dec 31, 2019 21:23
If just double click on the file all I get is the default file (ugly cube, nada más). If I open the file within blender I get the fie not supported error. It does look to me that the file is corrupt. Do you have a previous version before the crash (a blend1, version)?
Dec 31, 2019 21:16
Same thing "file format is not supported".
Dec 31, 2019 21:16
@ki I get the same error
Dec 31, 2019 21:16
If I try to open the Master.blend you posted on github I get a "file not supported" error

@David thanks, but feel the same as @RayMairlot.

Basically, there are two ways to create the illusion of all visible colors, with 3 sources emitting in RGB in different intensities (like a computer monitor) or by filtering light using Cyan Magenta and Yellow.
Jul 3, 2018 16:24
Please summarize the link, I have no time to watch
Jul 3, 2018 16:22
@downvote-flagger yellow is absorbing blue and letting all other light through
Jul 3, 2018 16:21
A yellow filter will absorb all blue letting red and green, but since the light has no red component any more all there is left is green.
Jul 3, 2018 16:20
a cyan filter will absorb all red, letting blue and green through (cyan).
Jul 3, 2018 16:19
In real life if you shine a light through a cyan filter and a yellow one, you get green. You are subtracting. White light trough a pure cyan filter will result in a transmitted mix of green and blue(cyan), if you subtract the blue (yellow is the negative of blue) you are left with green.
Jul 3, 2018 16:19
Cyan and Yellow filter would result in green light
Jul 3, 2018 16:19
In real life if you use a blue filter in front of a red one you will effectively get no light. (cycles reproduces that). A blue filter absorbs light in all frequencies except for blue. If the light travels trough a second filter (red) then all light that is not red gets absorbed, leaving you with no light at all: black. If you want to get magenta out of Red and Blue you have to add two light sources with such colors. Read about the difference between additive color and subtractive color
