@ReinaldyRafli There are noiseless single coils, which can have a dummy coil to get rid of the hum. It won't sound exactly like a pure single coil either, but can be a good alternative if hum is a great issue. I don't get much problems in Sweden, but we have 50 Hz in the power lines instead of 60 (I think, there is some difference at least), which I think makes it less of an issue.

@BraddSzonye, bet @Dom gets provision from Alfred ;). Bought the blue-ish one on his recommendation, great for beginners at the keyboard, but doesn't dumb it down too much if you already know some music.

Note that splitting a humbucker will not give you a "true" single coil sound. Being able to mix it can create interesting possibilities though.
Jun 12, 2015 09:12
In that way, you have the possibility to go from full humbucker to just one coil, and all states in between.
Jun 12, 2015 09:11
@ReinaldyRafli You can modify most humbuckers to allow for split humbuckers. (Or rather, you modify how the connection to it are set up) Most guitar repair dudes should be able to do it. If you, like me, do not use the tone control, I can recommend changing that into a split control, a so called "spin-a-split".

Funny how those with most rep cry hardest for downvotes and such...
Jun 5, 2015 18:10
Felt a bit out of character...
Jun 4, 2015 15:31
Petulant frenzies are becoming the order of the day in this place. Somewhat sad.
Jun 4, 2015 15:30
I think I got the hang of it, thank you.
Jun 4, 2015 15:28
Sheesh.
Jun 4, 2015 15:28
Ok, this is obviously a hot potato, I don't particularly care, so let's drop it.
Jun 4, 2015 15:27
He got five upvotes on the comment...
Jun 4, 2015 15:26
I think this got personal for some reason or other...
Jun 4, 2015 15:26
I don't see the big deal, and I don't think it's worth more discussion. He's just stating the rules of the network, not some personal agenda.
Jun 4, 2015 15:24
Whenever there is a discussion going on in comments, I know it's going out on a limb, and know the discussion is subject for removal.
Jun 4, 2015 15:23
Well, you don't know of all the times you didn't get notified :).
Jun 4, 2015 15:23
So that part is not out of the ordinary.
Jun 4, 2015 15:22
Ok, there are usually no names mentioned just a "comments are not for discussions".
Jun 4, 2015 15:21
Sounds like a lot of people would get spurious message notifications then...
Jun 4, 2015 15:21
Does it parse the comment for names without the "@"?
Jun 4, 2015 15:19
I think mods are encouraged to remove unnecessary debate. Usually I dont see @-pings to the ones involved when discussions are removed.
Jun 4, 2015 15:16
@JCPedroza: I think you're kinda harsh on Matthew in this case. I didn't see the discussion before it was removed, but I have been involved in discussions being removed, and mods adding a similar comment.
Jun 4, 2015 15:14
I was thinking about maybe getting a Kemper, but then made a last attempt to stay true to the old school stuff.
Jun 4, 2015 15:13
Just bought one, and I'm very pleased.
Jun 4, 2015 15:13
@RoryAlsop: Have any experience with attenuators for tube amps? (Know you are using more modern technology usually...).
Jun 4, 2015 15:11
@RoryAlsop Interesting chart for sure. Was surprised that math was such an outlier, but when you think about it there are lots of short questions to be had in math. Also, I guess there are a lot of math tests being studied for at any given point in time...

I did refrain from editing this time, in order to not have to relive the previous discussion. I still think we could do something to avoid the itchy closing fingers. If not for Slim's edits, I think it would have been closed. It might still be closed, even though Slim's answer is providing good information.

A good example of an equipment question, which serves us better open than closed: music.stackexchange.com/questions/32819/…

Great minds...
May 31, 2015 21:05
@BobBroadley: You deleted your enclosure answer? I don't think it was wrong. I should remove my reference to it, unless you want to un-delete...
May 31, 2015 21:02
@BobBroadley: Not familiar with him either, sorry.
May 31, 2015 16:03
I think authors, especially those who's been around as long as Bob, are capable of reverting edits they don't like.

I also reacted on the overly polite attribution in that answer. Mentioning another user one time should be enough.

And now Ornette Coleman is gone too. Truly one of the greats...
Jun 9, 2015 15:16
I still think most of the bad cases will be caught by the base rules that apply for all SE:s. I was only referring to chucking the rules invented here, mostly by people who has now left.
Jun 9, 2015 14:45
Hasn't the time come to wipe most of the rules and go with the current community instead of the one that left?
May 27, 2015 21:36
We'll see how it goes! Time for bed over here, see ya later.
May 27, 2015 21:34
If changes are proposed and have support from the current community, I believe that we can change old decisions.
May 27, 2015 21:33
Well, if someone doesn't voice their opinion, they can't complain after the fact.
May 27, 2015 21:29
@JCPedroza: Stumbled over Tundra by the group Lakker. Sounds pretty sweet, have you heard about 'em?
May 27, 2015 21:28
I think off topic questions should be off topic. If we want to keep some, they are not off topic and the close reason should be removed.
May 27, 2015 21:22
Also, if there's a reason to close, people will vote to close.
May 27, 2015 21:22
I think some of the identification question should be off topic, like "what's this track I heard ten years ago". I think there's a way of doing so, while not having everything off topic, in unor's answer.
May 27, 2015 21:09
This is a forming community; a lot of the people who where here in the beginning are now gone. Maybe people are starting to see that the knee-jerk "make up all kinds of rules is the basis of all SE:s" isn't working so great for all SE:s...
May 27, 2015 20:37
@JCPedroza: Makes a lot of sense.
May 24, 2015 09:04
A lot of music to dig into though...
May 24, 2015 09:04
Schönberg is a name to check out, but the body of work is impressive, so it's hard to get a handle. I bought a box with quartets by him, Webern and Alban Berg, so I have some starting point.
May 24, 2015 08:59
The perfect stranger is a mix of tracks conducted by Pierre Boulez and tracks performed on the Synclavier. Great stuff.
May 24, 2015 08:58
He did records with the London Symphony orchestra too, which he was disappointed in, since he felt they played badly. I can't hear anything wrong.
May 24, 2015 08:57
@JCPedroza The Yellow Shark is pretty amazing.
