@sameer I thought it probably was a real name, but it just stood out in the context of the question
Jun 10, 2014 13:50
And I think we've found a hole in Izzy's "Is there an app for x" listing! android.izzysoft.de/applists.php
Jun 10, 2014 13:50
Either that or some amazing meetings!
Jun 10, 2014 13:47
The description talks about being rescued from boring meetings but they're no different from a boring date play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=taynaxa.rescueme.com

Q: Any Idea to develop an app for Women's safety

BoobalanI thought of developing an app for Women's safety. Kindly contribute your thoughts.

Jun 10, 2014 13:29
It's childish humour, but I think it's the asker's name that really makes this question for me!
Jun 6, 2014 13:53
@DanHulme yeah that's been annoying me since it rolled out a couple of weeks now, it also doesn't seem to highlight which permissions have actually changed any more like it used to. Just shows them all with no sign of which ones were existing and which changed
Jun 6, 2014 09:41
The dialler definitely been improved
Jun 6, 2014 09:40
Just got the 4.4.3 update on my N5 while I was on the train to work this morning.
May 16, 2014 13:06
Ahh yes I can see it now
May 16, 2014 12:31
Ooh chat's back up, still seeing the main site as read only though :(
Apr 30, 2014 10:39
@DanHulme The most obvious times were when you submitted suggested edits yourself (eg when you edit a Tag Wiki). I can remember it showing the counter up there for the edits that I'd made, but when I clicked through to the queue there were none that I could authorise
Apr 30, 2014 10:36
@DanHulme Though to be fair the old "Pending Edits" counter used tobe just as bad at showing edits you couldn't review as well
Apr 9, 2014 08:45
@StackExchange Anyone know why the OP deleted this question before anyone had a chance to respond to it? Looks like that sort of thing could be a useful resource for people doing device comparisons etc
Apr 1, 2014 10:12
@sameer It's April Fools Day! (and meta.stackoverflow.com loves unicorns)
Mar 12, 2014 11:06
Your best option might be to import one from the US (probably via an ebay seller or something like that) but make sure you check that it's not sim-locked and that it supports the GSM/3G frequencies that your provider over here uses
Mar 12, 2014 11:04
The last time I saw a half-decent keyboard Android in the UK was the SE Xperia Pro sonymobile.com/gb/products/phones/xperia-pro but that's a couple of years old now. There've been a couple of budget phones with half of the front taken up with the keyboard (instead of it sliding from underneath) but they're often cheap and low-spec aimed at teenagers doing a lot of texting
Mar 12, 2014 11:01
You mean one with a hardware keyboard? Wow don't see many of them these days. Presume you've seen the more US biased phone lists like this one? androidauthority.com/best-qwerty-android-smartphones-335748 or this one phonerated.com/android_phones_with_keyboard-listbycat
Mar 7, 2014 17:47
@Izzy I'm getting the one above now with a screenshot of the app showing up in ads on AE now, instead the strange one with some man threatening us with a clenched fist that they were using befoer.
Mar 7, 2014 14:17
Mar 7, 2014 14:17
Nice to see the ad for the Android app has been updated to be a bit less weird and scary looking!

Q: Placeholder for all phone OS upgrade questions?

Al E.The Gingerbread SDK is rumored to get released on November 11. Shortly thereafter I expect there will be a flood of questions "when will {phone X} get Android 2.3?" We're still getting questions like that for Froyo. My idea is to have one Community Wiki question: "When will my phone get Android ...

Mar 6, 2014 09:57
@geffchang Don't know where he got the name from, but I think Al started the "When will my device get..." posts just as a reaction to the huge number of "Google just announced Android X.X, why haven't I got it yet?" we used to get after every announcement!
Mar 3, 2014 10:01
@AvinashRaj Sorry to hear that. You don't mention what exactly you need help with, but have you had a look through our Lost Phone tag to see if there's anything there that can help you? android.stackexchange.com/tags/lost-phone/info
Feb 24, 2014 14:19
@DanHulme a few of the apps mentioned seem to be very Sony-Ericsson specific. Have commented
Feb 24, 2014 14:12
Bizarre, just starts listing a few (common and VERY obscure) apps that are safe to remove, that list seems like it would be a lot of work to keep up to date! android.stackexchange.com/a/64239/156
Feb 24, 2014 14:08
@DanHulme hmmm that's not a bad idea, might have a look. Though I wonder what they do about when you're sleeping somewhere else for the night and don't have the tag with you to disable the alarm in the morning?
Feb 24, 2014 14:05
@DanHulme I use two separate physical alarms for that, one by my bed that I can snooze without really waking up and one by the bedroom door set a few minutes later that I can't turn off without waking myself up!
Feb 24, 2014 14:03
I had a friend who used to write mobile games for one of the fairly big names in that space, he learnt very quickly never to admit this at parties. Everyone has an idea for the next big hit mobile game sensation that's guaranteed to be an overnight success and make millions, almost none of them are able (or willing) to do any of the work after having the idea. He found saying he was a programmer for a big corporation (which was strictly true) meant he enjoyed social gatherings much more
Feb 24, 2014 13:55
@bmdixon 1. Have an awesome idea, 2. ???, 3. PROFIT!!!
Feb 21, 2014 16:41
Busy day at work, just catching up now. That answer android.stackexchange.com/a/63996/156 would be massively improved by deleting everything before "How to Set Update methods for the Play Store" which is when the info that's actually useful to the OP starts
Feb 19, 2014 16:19
@DanHulme It's also basically saying "I typed 'disqus' into the Play Store search and got nothing, can you try it?"
Feb 19, 2014 13:31
@DanHulme Disqus <shudder> if there's one thing that'll make avoid a website it's when I realise they're using that abomination

Q: What is the current status of internal memory limits problem (vaguely)?

HoverHellWhat is the current status / change in the problem of internal memory limits of android phones in the last 2-4 years? Is it still a problem, or was it sort-of-solved in software, or was it sort-of-solved in hardware (by much larger internal storage)? Assume that I haven't actively used any more ...

Feb 18, 2014 11:43
Is this question asking about the Android storage changes between 2.x and 4.x (where all internal storage is a big storage pool that can be used for apps or data now, but back in 2.x it was partitioned so that one bit was only for app installs and one bit was only for user data, and HTC always made the app partition tiny)
Feb 18, 2014 11:41
But trying to send an SMS to someone in Hangouts without accidentally adding them to a G+ Circle, or sending a G+ message though is really annoying, unless you've already started an SMS conversation with them
Feb 18, 2014 11:40
The dialler on Kit Kat doesn't really show a contacts list it shows a list of favourite contacts, and contacts recent calls in/out. It looks like quite a different list than the People app, it never even occurred to me that it might be confusing
Feb 17, 2014 17:32
Well I made a smaller edit than I originally planned, but hopefully now the useful bit where he gives a direct answer to the question is nearer the top, and all the ranty bit has been removed/toned down android.stackexchange.com/a/63684/156
Feb 17, 2014 16:28
@Izzy A toilet flushing app would be pretty useless if it didn't migrate shit! ;)

Feb 17, 2014 15:32
@DanHulme yeah, I know there's other answers saying this probably wouldn't work, but he's the only one who claims he's actually tried it "I have tried this, ... and sadly the remote wipe DOES not work if you change your password before the phone gets chance to receive the wipe command", the others seem to just be guessing
Feb 17, 2014 13:53
So do we think this user will have a fit if I delete out his first 4 paragraphs, and the last one, and then edit the rants out of what's left? As it looks like he actually has an answer buried in there... android.stackexchange.com/a/63684/156
Feb 14, 2014 17:00
@eldarerathis Found it, but bizarrely the accepted answer has nothing to do with "fixing" or "Won'tFix"-ing it

Q: Show the diff between two non-consecutive revisions of a post

balphaI am ashamed. My Meta rep has recently surpassed my SO rep. Even putting a (relevant!) Shakespeare quote into an answer on SO couldn't do anything about it. That's why I looked for one of my old Meta questions to put a bounty on; I chose this one. I will give the bounty to the best idea/solutio...

Feb 14, 2014 16:55
@eldarerathis Would be nice if SE let you diff between two arbitrary versions (like Wikipedia does), rather than just two consecutive versions. Would make this sort of thing where there's a batch of changes much easier to check
Feb 14, 2014 13:45
android.stackexchange.com/questions/63508 wow, I'm no Java programmer but even I can read the helpful line in the error log that says to check your manifest, compare that to his manifest, and spot his problem
Feb 11, 2014 15:05
Downvote seems harsh, I know he's mentioned the word "application" but it is a very specific task he's looking for, and only a very slight change would be needed to make it a "I'm looking for a way to..."

Job for Tasker?
Feb 6, 2014 15:03
Ahh sorry just seen your comment pointing that question out with the old title (which is what threw me)
Feb 6, 2014 15:02
@Izzy for your query about whether android.stackexchange.com/questions/62863 could be an XY problem, compare to the same OP's question yesterday... android.stackexchange.com/questions/62783
