@sangstar When I was at the position you are now, I read Watchmen en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watchmen - I found the Comedians Perspective on this very uplifting. Now when I look into the abyss, all I can do is smile.

@BogdanSikach You can either ask gmiley to post it as an answer or post the answer yourself. In principle that should have been an answer to start with.

As far as I understood it: If the answer to one question does not apply to the other (and visa versa) it is not a duplicate.

Hi, I recently interacted with this question: serverfault.com/questions/316412/… and tried to make the case that this is not a duplicate, yet it seems to be still closed. Is this usual for serverfault? Can I do something to make this more clear?

Ahoi, I've tried an answer to a question today, but I can't find the relevant question anymore :) Is there a way to search through questions that are deleted so that I can see if I can find it there?

@Pants Gern geschehen! If you come near Freiburg in South western Germany, send me an e-mail!
Sep 1, 2016 13:22
@Pants In this comment I will use "plausible" as compared to NYC. Oslo: Not plausible (building distance on average higher then NYC). Beijing: Plausible. Melbourne: Sloped roofs, but besides that its an american style city. Even modern (e.G. "planned") European city parts (Paris, Berlin, London, etc.) don't feature hoppable roofs - or buildings that look like what you would consider a city. Come over and have a look, its beautiful but not very parkourable usually. Compare: Düren, NRW. 98% destruction in 1945, has been rebuild from scratch. No hoppable roofs (but very ugly '50s style buildings)
Sep 1, 2016 13:22
There is no such thing as "Generic City". NYC is fundamentally different to Munich. In Munich Roofhopping has a 0% success rate. We don't have flat roofs (except on very high skyscrapers and sometimes one story garages), we have proper roads every 50 meters (two lanes + sidewalk) and there are no (none, ever. Forbidden by law) cables or similar structures between buildings that could hold a human. I strongly suggest limiting this to "American style metropolitan city".

The SAGA RPG (afaik only in german) handles that well: You have all that powerful magic, but you always have a chance of blowing yourself up if you use it. So, Yeah the mage COULD level that fortress, transport the caravan BUT it has a significant chance of horrible failure so maybe you don't WANT him to try anyway.

Link for saga: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saga-System (note that the english wiki talks about a different system). Magic is Book #15. The books are independent on each other.

@Shalvenay I have seen it. But unfortunately I don't know the answer (nor would I need or use one). So, asking it on a place where it CAN get answers (because it won't be closed) could be beneficial to you. I cannot repost it for you, because there will be questioning comments on SR.SE (Like price and OS) that I can't answer for you.
Oct 11, 2015 20:12
@Shalvenay Yes. But thats a chicken / egg problem. Because there are no localized RPG questions on SR.SE to answer, there are no experts in answering them, so they don't get asked :( I don't have much hope for my [rpg] question over there too, at least in the near future. But as they start to pile up it becomes more interesting (or so I hope)
Oct 11, 2015 20:01
@Sandwich Yeah. I can see the critique on recommendation questions that they tend to be too open ended and in some cases attract poor questions. We got that on SR.SE as well. But that did not seem to be more the case for rec questions then for anything else I saw on other SEs. So - YES this would be the place where you get that information but is it the right format? (I say: Yes! If you stick to the rules, then rec questions can be great.)
Oct 11, 2015 19:54
@Shalvenay Care to post them on SR.SE?
Oct 11, 2015 19:54
@Sandwich Then I'm surprised they became a problem... Odd. Most SEs that abandon recommendation questions do so because they get far too much of them, I thought I just don't see all the deleted ones and thats why it seemed so few.
Oct 11, 2015 19:26
@BESW I got the impression from the discussions that this applied to the game-rec (where a lot more questions are then in the tool-rec questions). Unfortunately I'm not yet active enough here to have deep knowledge about what exactly is the problem.
Oct 11, 2015 11:58
@BESW Not surprising :) its the same on the other chats as well.
Oct 11, 2015 11:55
@BESW Not much, I just thought it would be good to hang around here while the Tool-Rec Questions on Meta are hot. See if anyone has questions to the proposal I posted.

@BESW Hi!

Mar 20, 2015 15:07
@Izzy Yes, but that only applies to dns-prefetching.
Mar 20, 2015 14:51
@Izzy Yeah, only "link" tags, not "a" tags and only if they state "rel=prefetch"
Mar 20, 2015 14:48
@Izzy Or if you write a userscript that does it (but will fail to fit the goal of the OP).
Mar 20, 2015 14:48
@Izzy Firefox only does this if the page is prepared for it specifically.
Mar 20, 2015 14:18
@Izzy Great. I fixed the things you mentioned here. Thanks!
Mar 20, 2015 14:15
@Izzy Okay, so I got that right that it won't help him (but is possible) I will edit it to be more clear.
Mar 20, 2015 14:14
site vs. page. Yeah, I messed that up. Just fixed it.
Mar 20, 2015 14:12
@Izzy The sentence is: "Its impossible to improve your experience with that technique" - Yes its possible to write code that does what he describes but that won't solve his underlying problem (show sites faster) because of network load.

I just wrote my first "There is no such software and never will be" answer. Could you peer-review it? (I always thought that I will never encounter such a situation)
Mar 20, 2015 12:54
@Izzy I think we use the tagging differently :) I just type the tags I think a correct and then see whats there. (Or at least that was what I was doing before being active on metas and noticing that people actually cared about this tagging thing) - So I would type "audio-editor" faster then I would realize that there is something to be selectable :)
Mar 20, 2015 12:04
So, I'm uncertain about what you mean in your edit with "creating redundancy by using synonyms"
Mar 20, 2015 12:01
If we would rename "audio-editing" to "audio-editor" nothing would stop it that "audio-editing" does not pop up again. But if we synonym it, people could not help but select "audio-editor" because they can't do it otherwise :)
Mar 20, 2015 12:00
@Izzy RE: Tag Synonyms: The idea (and function) of the synonyms is to avoid having two of them. Try it yourself: type "freew" into a new question: The tag that pops up is gratis (with the notation that "freeware" is a synonym to it).

Hi, I was just thinking about good slogans for the softwarerecs.SE when I had an idea for a slogan that would match good to cooking.SE. I don't know if you do ads on the other SE sites (and haven't found a meta discussion about it). So, I just wanted to leave the slogan here in case you are interested: "Bake the Internet a better cake" Have fun.
