Coming back to the office after the weekend, notice loads of differences with Ubuntu's rendering
it feels like Windows 95 :(
where's my beautiful Ubuntu gone? (I'm running on 13.04, fairly recently installed fresh)
change your theme to something else, then back to ambiance again.
just tried that @fossfreedom
I notice that the global menubar is not global any more either
12.04 ?
^^
unity --reset
09:20
It's 13.04
oh - ok - you'll need the 13.04 equivalent - we've got an answer for that - askubuntu.com/a/202020/14356
I think this may only be half the problem though ... the fonts are being rendered differently than usual
and my mouse pointer is larger than normal
is it a system wide issue - or localised to one account?
in fact, I don't think it is the Ubuntu font at all
@fossfreedom I only have one account
create another account - login with that.
see if it still occurs
09:24
@fossfreedom ah just switched to guest account, looks fine (normal) in there
what a weird problem ...
unity reset should fix it then
yeah? ok I'll try it
nope, didn't help anything
rebooted, too
do you have custom themes in ~/.theme (or is it ~/.themes) ?
not that I know of, I don't really bother tweaking Ubuntu any more
nope, nothing there
if you set it to radiance - is the switch successful?
09:34
kind of - the title bar changes colour, but nothing really looks different
then I'm out of ideas :/
thanks anyway
how many are accepted?
nice, so it would be a good goal to get to 135135 questions :)

@AmithKK nice

Yeah. If I weren't happy enough with my laptop, I would want to buy it :3
Needs a bit of RAM though. I don't think it mentions how much there is.

That makes me laugh :P
He's a friend :P
Just got married
His wife is beautiful :)
Tell it to him :P

Is he on here?
Her dad(?). Look at how he's standing lol
@Mochan Nope
@AmithKK Then how can I tell him? >O<

No thanks. You pass it on.

Well I can't figure out this problem, so I posted a question.

Q: Rebooting caused theme to look like Windows 95 in 13.04

GregAfter rebooting, I noticed so many problems with the way Ubuntu looked: Mouse pointer very large, blurry Applications don't have a global menu bar Font is all weird... is it open sans instead of Ubuntu? Right click context menu has little coloured icons in it Most applications look like Windows...

I seriously prefer g+
10:53
@Greg Dual-boot?
Me too
@Mochan no
@Greg edit your question with stuff we talked about and tried.
@JourneymanGeek I don't use it enough. Not really for me.
But where are the people
10:53
@Greg Odd. Try what @fossfreedom said.
@AmithKK Exactly :(
Google should buy facebook
However Facebook is a much bigger breach of privacy. I would never give you guys my facebook (no offence haha) because it's... quite literally me.
@AmithKK +1 doubt Mark Zuckerberg would submit to that! Gah!
@AmithKK Get rid of that nao.
@fossfreedom question did say what I tried, but I have elaborated
@Greg Probably the best you can do for now. Have you messed with the themes or installed any separate DEs?
@Mochan nope
10:59
Now to make some undetectable backdoor
:P
@Greg Odd indeed. I heard that "Jolicloud" has Windows95-like stuff like that, but it seems although that it's not the cause.
@AmithKK A backdooe? Really?
LOLOL
Hahaha
To MetaSplot!
\o/
9
A: Apps run as root appearing like win 98 style after installation of gnome 3

Amith KKThe answer to this is to fix the gtk2 theme to do that: Click activities Type in appearance Click the first result and in the themes select Ambiance instead of Adwance Now this should be fixed

one of my very old answers :P
What is it called in Ubuntu that draws the buttons and menus?
11:12
"it" is Compiz or Metacity
@Greg did you try mv ~/.compiz-1 ~/.compiz-1.bak?
@Takkat yeah, just tried that
and?
well it is ~/.compiz on my machine
and, nothing happened
because you say guest account works the issue has to sit in your ~
yes that's what I thought, it can't be to do with the prop. drivers can it?
(ATI Radeon gfx card)
Not had any problems with the graphics when I was using older versions of Ubuntu
11:22
I doubt it, but some prop drivers write stuff in user's home. Bad but they do.
ATI has a 13.04 lag.
lag?
is always late when there is a new release.
oh.... so what am I using?
But then they sort of fix it sooner or never.
If your guest account is o.k then your driver is fine!
yeah, true
11:25
<-- not into ATI any more - I disabled it some years ago to get rid of the fglrx blues
But people say it's much much better now. I am dreaming of an A10 with integrated GPU some day.
to be honest, I've never had any problems with the drivers, as long as I download them from the ATI homepage and not through normal software sources.
My issue then was with the downloaded driver that could not be removed after installation.

Q: PSA: gksu is no longer installed by default

OliTurns out gksu is no longer installed by default. Some things still depend on it so it might be installed on your system - but on a clean install, it seems it's no longer required. As for why, see: Why is gksu no longer installed by default in Raring 13.04? Historically we have used gksu a lot h...

Hickups in gconf... weird.
@buzz-dee ... when flagging "low quality" - please can you drop a comment as to why its low quality. Sometimes its difficult to understand why you have flagged. Cheers.
12:22
Why do so many people lose their data partitions? This should not happen.
12:35
@fossfreedom the "very low quality" flag option dosn't allow comments
@fossfreedom you mean I should use then the option "other"?
I would just add a comment to the question or answer - doesnt need a custom flag.

Q: Why doesn't anyone answer my series question?

user13390410 days ago I asked a question about suddenly not being able to login using 12.04 though I can still do so in faithful old 10.04, but I seem to be the only one checking this question. I have tried everything that there is on this forum and NOTHING works. I'd appreciate some help otherwise I'm goi...

12:51
@fossfreedom do you mean a special flag?
No - make a standard comment to the question or answer. By all means flag "low quality" as well. By adding a comment, it should help the OP improve their posting. But if they dont, we (mods) can always cleanup.
"low quality" flag is particularly meaningless - because it could be poor for a whole host of reasons

Q: Replacing Multiple Debian Packages from Compiled Source

AdmiralJonBI've had to download and install a version of a library from its source code repository. The problem is is that other packages from the Kubuntu package manager require this library to be installed. Right now I'm working with ffmpeg, but I've had to do it before (e.g. OpenCV) and I'm looking into ...

@FEichinger nice?
@jokerdino I'm not sure what I'm more disappointed about ... someone flagging that, or someone validating that flag ...
which room? which message?
It's linked.
You should be able to see it, mod and all.
16:51
wow. why was that even?
I asked that because of the ping spam that happened before that.
How I got suspended, while that got ignored ... Yeh. Weird.
@FEichinger has happened to me too, which is why i now have a sock
@FEichinger i have no info on what happened on the background. but weird
@jokerdino I'd assume someone either fat fingered the flag button, is mad at me for some reason, or flagged it for the lulz. Which is why I'm leaning towards being more disappointed about whoever approved that ...
Some thirty minutes ago, I was having my dinner. Or I would have prevented it from happening.

Q: Add option to declare a chat flag valid without suspension

Mad ScientistChat flags carry an automatic 30 minute suspension if they are declared valid. This is perfectly valid for spam or insults directed at other posters, but flags are not only used in those clear cases. There are a lot of other things some people find offensive that others don't mind, e.g. mild pr...
