So @StrixVaria and I fought a Pink Rathian .

It didn't end well.

And it started even worse.

We both spawned in different areas, since high rank. Strix spawned with the pink rathian (inside a cave). The Pink Rathian then proceed to slaughter poor strix within 20 seconds. Things slowly got better... and it looked like we might actually win! Then P. Rathian went into this small ass area, and proceeded to kill us both within a minute of entering it.

It seems like one of those catch-22 things.

I can't kill anything on high rank because I don't have high rank armor

I can't get high rank armor because I can't kill anything on high rank.

You can craft some low-tier HR armor.

Great Jaggi comes to mind.

We could also kill Barroths for you to get Barroth armor.

Barroth isn't that difficult to take down, even at high rank.

Great Wroggi HR is another choice. Would help against Gigginox, Rathian and RAthalos.

Oaky, well that's nice.

once you hit high rank in the village you can turn a lot more stuff in for resources.

Duramboros humps go for 1500 resources.

and I just traded in 3 plesioth fangs I'm never going to use for 4500 resources.

I also just made 417,000 zenny with a few items made frmo the fishery. Heavens to betsy/

Lava Nuggets are also good Resource Items.

You can mine them off Uragaan's back, easily 2+ a hunt.

Not to mention getting them in the quest rewards.

And they go for 1500 Resource Points as well.

I'm tempted to give up on hunting Lagis and just focus on gearing up for high rank instead. Cutting off the tails and capturing 5 of them last night to get 0 of the 2 plates I need was disheartening.

@Wipqozn's Duramboros bowgun last night was incredible.

One Lagi fight he went to land almost as soon as the fight started and then went to area 9 and even 5.

He never went back to the water.

To status effects, though, I think they might be immune to certain ones.

@OrigamiRobot Leader's Shotels deal 182 damage + 0 elemental damage. Ludroth Pair deals 168 damage + 120 water damage. If an enemy doesn't take water damage, then 182 > 168.

The way monster hitzones work is that the damage you deal is: ATK x HITZONE/100

So if a monsters hitzone has a value of 50, and you have 100 atk, you'd deal 50 damage.

Because of this a hitzone of 0 results in no damage when hitting that hitzone.

It's the same for elemental damage. So if a monster has no weakness to an element that'll take no damage from that element.

There's more to the damage formula than that, but that's how hitzones come into play.

And elemental damage and raw damage are calculated separately. So even if you deal 0 damage with the element you'll still deal RAW damage.

Would you be satisfied with an answer that covers the things included in the damage formula? The basic structure doesn't change between games, but some of the numbers do change.

Why does everyone keep saying desire sensor?

It's a running joke within the fanbase. The joke is that the game has a built-in desire sensor that will figure out which item you're looking for, and just never give you that item. If you're hunting with friends all of them will get multiple copies of said item though.

Like how @StrixVaria needed two lagi plates last night, but didn't any. I on the other hand got two of them.

Goal for this weekend: Complete Ceadeus armor (hopefully; need a Deep Dragongem, and that's got only a 2% drop rate), Great Jaggi+ armor, and Ludroth S Armor.
