if you're going to be buying new parts, I'd suggest getting a case of your own, or finding a "standard" ATX tower used somewhere

the buildapc folks gave me some good advice about how to spend the cash and what different part numbers were, and pcpartpicker gives you sort of a global view of what's out there, what's compatible, and how much everything costs

Part of the purpose was to not have to upgrade the case for years. The HAF X certainly suits that bill. And it's a lovely case to work in

The 80mm on the stock heatsink got too loud at full blast (3000RPM vs 2000RPM tops). It seemed to correct it self a bit but I decided on a better one for now

That seems like the worst direction.

@fbueckert mine has 2 hot swap bays "out the front", from 2 of the 5.25 bays

I opted to not use those though, so I could keep the wires neater (the cabling to the hot swap bays is in a grosser place than the sideways HDDs)

I got a good deal on the CPU and a combo discount on the vid card/ram knocked that down another $20

also the prices are kinda just an hint for me because I'm not in the US

240 SSD seems like overkill unless you're not planning to use an HDD for dumb storage (in which case it's underkill)

@OrigamiRobot You want to be within 20% and 90% of total capacity at idle/load for best efficiency, and you want as high an efficiency rating as possible, but don't pay too much for it (it saves you pennies basically)

It's rare you'll need over 600W with only one GPU

Powerhungry AMD high end proc + max load graphics card should get you around 500W, plus other assorted power draws, usually less than 100W for HDDs, fans etc.

Though I'm absolutely convinced now to buy a good PSU, I've seen too many stock PSUs go bad.

sometimes I think people are trying to make popcorn or clean their houses rather than power their pc's :P

A high end CPU uses around 100W max, the GPU maybe 200W for a higher mid-range card. All the other stuff doesn't use much

@OrigamiRobot Wattage, efficiency and reliability (which can pretty much only be based on the brand) are about it. Unless you mean modular/etc

Of course, I have learned that the whole dual 12V rail things is BS since I last bought a PSU

Q: How does one refer to people who use online handles?

I know this more in line with Etiquette (which is only a proposal), but it's been bugging me for a while, and I'd like some clarification. When referring to others on this site (and many others, including forums, chat rooms, etc.) sometimes, online handles of users may not reveal gender. For ex...

@AshleyNunn I would probably make sure to stick with that for the other games then, as the difficulty ramps up a little, iirc. I know that completion for something in KH2 is actually easier to do if you do it on Proud (the hardest mode) rather than Normal, but I'm not sure how it is if you do it on Easy for that one.

@FAE I think it's just the secret cutscenes at the end have reduced requirements on Proud, than on Easy or Normal.

And with everything on Youtube, it's not even necessary.

@FAE I didn't have decent internet until I moved out of the parents'; I've been on my own for a decade, now, and I don't think I can do without the internet at all, it's that prevalent.

@fbueckert After I moved over here, Jochem and I had to live with his parents for a while because you need to get on a waiting list for apartments here in some cities. When we finally got a place, I refused to move in until after the internet was hooked up.

Considering I maintain long-distance relationships, the internet is kind of a critical part of my life.
