Q: There are no questions with an active bounty at the moment. :What to do?

F. HauriEdited. That a strange behaviour: Near this: There are no questions with an active bounty at the moment but in first page. The red indicator stand there is 3 active bounties but the pages response said 0 as title of this: In fact this seem not very harming. So, my next question: Do I need ...

System is being updated, lots of sites show no questions, everything will be back to normal in a few minutes.

Q: What exactly should a good C++ developer know?

ThisIsNotAnIdI am new to C++ and I was wondering, if I want to write code and needed libraries or other similar information: Where exactly should I be looking for this information? What are some good "tools" of the trade in regard to 1.? Is there some conventionally sequence of steps I should follow? What a...

I'm tempted to link Cormen's Algorithms and say "You should know how to do this entire book in C++"

Q: Is node.js a suitable server platform for financial applications?

Nathan C. TreschIs node/javascript ready to be used for billing code and complex financial transaction code? I'm evaluating platforms, and node is compelling for a number of reasons as I read this spec. I'm concerned that I'm exposing my client to risk, and part of me is saying "Be safe and use python." I w...

That got closed ... BUt
So I went to the node maintainers and asked
No, node isn't a good use case for financial calculations at all
I'm not sure why it was closed, though. I was going to answer it with the reasons why the Node maintainers said not to use it
/me shrugs
Hopefully anyone else who wants to know the answer figures out where to get it, since we decided not to help. :P

@NathanC.Tresch That's a toipic to bring up on meta

user20683
chat and the site in general are slow on weekends

I just wanted to spread the word
About the issue

user20683
what issue? the question was vague

7:14 AM
There is a rounding error in node/JS that will cause me to lose money
If I use it
THat issue

user20683
so don't use it

I wont
No one esle should either
As for vaguery, how would you suggest I ask about any bugs or issues with a server platform that would affect financial transactions?
Because I'm not sure how else I could have asked
... And, there is a glaring one.

user20683
surveying questions like "are there any x" tend to get closed

user20683
not always but much of the time

Yes, I understand that questions with potentially huge lists of answers are verboten

7:17 AM
@NathanC.Tresch You need to give us a far more detailed description of what you're building.

Why?
All I wanted to know was if there is a problem with node and counting money

user20683
@NathanC.Tresch there is always a problem with floats and counting money

I don't care that much, since I can get answers other places, but ... I'd like other people to know

user20683
in basically every language

Yes, that's why you use ints

user20683
7:19 AM
blog about it and submit it to Hacker NEws

And divide by 10

user20683
or roll a decimal class/type

Oh, so this ISNT the place that's trying to be the one stop Q&A for most issues? I should definately not try to help here? Is that it/
?

@NathanC.Tresch I don't think that's what is being said

7:20 AM
Well, he suggested I post it elsewhere :)

user20683
@NathanC.Tresch as far as publicizing the issue yes

Oh, I see
Node/JS will cause money loss even with int/10, so the maintainers told me
I don't care that much, I just like for people to not have to look around for things I've researched if they don't have to
:)

@NathanC.Tresch A self answered Q&A on that might work...

I was going to answer it mysefl
WHen I saw it was closed
I didn't want to re-ask and answer without seeing what I could do
To make it a better q or whatever
You know? I'm not trying to be a pain

Well, the main problem with your question is that it's vague. You aren't giving us enough parameters to judge answers on.

7:24 AM
Well, PHP had an error with its math once and it cost a colleague who's a partner at Jane Street Capital a million dollar
So, I was specifically asking about that kind of issue, without trying to trash PHP

Well, I've build quite a few financial apps in PHP. Then Greece's economy collapsed. Probably not my fault, but you never know ;P
2

(PHP's muddy types are specifically what caused it)
Hahahah

You get a (*) for that Yannis :P made me laugh

YEah that was lol
:)

Can you edit a closed question?

7:27 AM
I think that this place is in general more suited to the types of questions I ask
I dunno

@Deco Yes, but @NathanC.Tresch's question is locked. It was migrated from SO, and the closure locked it.

ouch

I was going to suggest editing the question taking into account the comments left, and any subsequent information on meta - which may attract reopen votes
then you can post your own answer providing the relevant details, etc.

Right, right
I might also do a blog post

7:29 AM
I think I managed to unlock it without breaking anything, it should be editable now.

After I find out what the node people's answer means on a more technical level
Hehe

Yeah it looks editable now.. well, I can press the edit button anyway

It seems we don't have enough metrics to obsess about, Jeff now wants to add a "citizenship level"

Q: Replace accept rate with citizenship level

Jeff AtwoodI see that accept rate has now been removed from display on questions. I think this not a great solution for reasons that waffles explained well. Take it away waffles! On one hand accept rate bothers me a lot, it is a one-dimensional metric that does not really give me enough information about...

:S
I don't like the term "citizenship level"
The SAP Developers Network uses the phrase "Contribution Rate" or something similar (depends what language you read it in)

user20683
@YannisRizos I appreciate Jeff but I'm wary of more metrics

7:38 AM
reading metas like that are always interesting to me
the comments are often entertaining

7:51 AM
I think that contributions to all stackex sites except ELU should give everyone the meaningless "citizenship level" that they've earned by adding all of their rep together
I need to find out specifically if that guy was right, I see an answer on the node mailing list that says 100/10 == $1 wuold be fine
YEah
github.com/iriscouch/bigdecimal.js that's what I need right ther
Okay so node it is

Assuming edits is more important than close votes is more important than comments is more important than posts (that's not necessarily true, but that's how I calculated it), here are the most active users since 1/1/2012 with >=3000 rep:
