@TRiG Yeah, most likely.

12 hours later…
12:39 PM
@Caleb New picture! Nice... One of these days, I might consider showing someone other than my son. Halloween is coming up after all :)

1:10 PM
@AffableGeek The tradition on h2g2 is for everyone to wear Halloween masks by converting their names to anagrams for the season.
@El'endiaStarman The fact that the baron appears, at times, to be not entirely human (his body looks like it's been stitched together) may have something to do with it too. Perhaps he's immune.

2:05 PM
Hmmm, should I be Fake Flea Beg
Fake Leaf Beg
Fake Flag Bee
Fake Lag Beef -or-
Fake Gal Beef
I don't need the server, however, to know that you @Trig, are true grit :)

@AffableGeek Wage Axle

2:29 PM
I'll tell you something scary - yours was the one I tested after mine :)

@AffableGeek :)

2:52 PM
@AffableGeek Your mug shot is hardly private sir :)

3:11 PM
Doing some research for the oral sex question. came across 1 Corinthians 5:12 man I wish people would actually follow this verse more often.
hmm, I think I also just found a BH question

Q: Did the apostles travel with their wives?

wax eagleI was doing some research for an answer and came across this verse: 3 This is my defense to those who sit in judgment on me. 4 Don’t we have the right to food and drink? 5 Don’t we have the right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers and Cep...

4:15 PM
@Caleb True... But you do have to actually go to my site to see it. Jonathan looks a lot like I did at his age, so I'll claim Copyright...

@waxeagle "For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge?"

@JonEricson yep

@AffableGeek Censor Join. (Mine are pretty terrible.)
@waxeagle That's very good advice. But it does, also, imply that we are to hold our friends in the church to a higher standard.
God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.”--1 Corinthians 5:13 (ESV)

@JonEricson yes it does
and the church does kind of a lousy job at that too

@waxeagle Yeah. Often we don't even try.

4:23 PM
@JonEricson I think in general our churches are too big to effectively be "the church" to everyone
our church has tried to do it by getting people involved in small groups, but that really requires people to actually actively seek to be part of the church

@waxeagle Even in small groups you can spend years next to someone without really knowing their struggles and pain.

@JonEricson yes

The sad thing about sexual sin is that it comes from a place of deep rejection. (At least in myself and the people I have come to know.)
I keep thinking of how Jesus dealt with that woman going to the well. I can't heal that sort of thing, so I'm glad He can.

@JonEricson srsly.

Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven shone around him. And falling to the ground he heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” And he said, “Who are you, Lord?” And he said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.”
(Acts 9:3-6 ESV)
You owe BH a question on that passage too. ;-)

4:38 PM
@JonEricson lol, I don't know how I futzed the book there
unless "it's the apostles, of course it's acts" but manually typing the book name is probably the root cause

@waxeagle There's a userscript around here somewhere to copy and paste from BibleGateway.
And the ESV site is pretty handy too.
Now I need to put in a bit of research because that's a really interesting question.

@waxeagle When I was getting ordained, I was asked why. I told people at the time that as an ordained person, I wanted to be held to a higher standard (mostly because in my fallen nature, I need to be held to something higher!) I also tell people that the risk of joining a church is precisely that you are to be held to that same higher standard.
In short, defining "sin" is for the church to apply to the church. Not the world
So, thanks for giving me the reference to back that up!

@AffableGeek Come to church! We'll be happy to judge you! (Your version sounds a lot better. ;)

5:02 PM
@AffableGeek this. and I have difficulty reconciling this with politics, but that's probably another matter :)

5:24 PM
@waxeagle Speaking of which, I need to sign up to write a blog post in November.

2 hours later…
7:11 PM
Hey, this is cool. My rep = my zip code!

@AffableGeek my_rep == 2^2,2^8 (In my made up language, of course.)
@AffableGeek Also, I was surprised that your zip code was so long. I somehow thought you had another digit in your reputation. ;-)

7:36 PM
@AffableGeek Oooh! Google Maps draws a dashed border around a zipcode area.
...[blinks]...wow, you're really close to the Washington-Dulles airport. I had a layover there once on the way from Greensboro to RIT.

8:15 PM
@JonEricson Oh the church is very good at policing its borders. It just sometimes picks strange borders to police.

@El'endiaStarman You went to the Rochester Institute for Technology? I was just in Rochester not a month ago, and half my team is either still up in Rochester or from there...

@AffableGeek Still going! In my second year here.

So, if you ever wantto work for Siteworx, give me a call
:)
And inre: IAD, growing up, astronomy kinda stunk, because you always had to wait to see if the "star" was actually a plane. On the bright side, I got to see the Goodyear blimp and now two space shuttles..

8:30 PM
@AffableGeek Oooh, sweet!
Do you know if Siteworx ever goes to the RIT/NTID job fairs?
...and their Rochester base is not even 3 miles away. Sweet.

All the time. In fact, I was almost interviewing people there myself about 3 weeks ago.
Unfortunately, I was just too swamped.
But our Rochester office is right across from the airport.
I've spent time up there, and am hoping to get back up there soon/

8:48 PM
@AffableGeek Alright, I'm definitely gonna go to the next job fair! I'm looking to have a co-op this spring.

Q: Why was Gilgamesh Wulfenbach afraid of the slaver wasps?

TRiGBaron Wulfenbach took a hive engine aboard Castle Wulfenbach so he could study it. When it was activated, Gil and Agatha were trapped and herded toward it. Gil: We'll be taken over — and then our job will be to defend it. Agatha: Kill me first. Why were they afraid, given that it wa...
