I am kind of confused about what topology is about.
Like for example, what do mathematicians mean when they say something like "Topology of R"?
Or, "Topological properties of R".
I heard that topology is about the study of continuous functions but I can't seem to align this perspective with what I encounter in mathematical literature.
I read some stuff from rudin about point set topology and their they defined the notion of a metric space and then ended proving some theorems about R and R^k.
Beyond that I am kind of lost about the intuition behind certain ideas about topology.
I am sorry if this seems like a silly question, I don't really know deal with this subject.
