Would you like to spar with me? Because I want to sweep you off your feet
Better
Take notes, people. I know all of y'all are awkward nerds but if you follow my advice, you will be guaranteed to get a significant other before Valentine's Day
Then you can introduce them to Vyxal as a Valentine's Day present

cool

You make me feel like a hard drive, 'cause I want you to mount me

ಠ_ಠ

Your eyes are so unique, which is why they are not a bad way to do biometric identification. I suggest a PIN, though, in case you get blinded

@user .-.

1:26 AM
Hey girl, are you an async function? Because I'll always be awaiting you

one more pickup line and I will come to your house and force-cancel your task

I think I'll continue with the pickup lines in OTTNB

good call

13 messages moved from Vyxal
Are you any? Because you'd be anyone's type

*Any

1:30 AM
TS uses any iirc
Feel free to replace with whatever language you like
You make me feel like a hitman because I want to take you out
Hey girl, are you ten pounds of sugar? Because you're sweet and contributing to my rapidly decaying health
Okay I think I lost that creative juice already
Hey girl, how much do you weigh? Because if it's over 5 pounds, I probably can't pick you up
Are you Jabba the Hutt? Because you are out of this world

2:24 AM
Are you an optical nerve? Because I can't take my eyes off you
Are you an airplane crashed on a desert island? Because you make me want to take long walks on a beach

6 hours later…
8:54 AM
@user just don't do this on a haskell programmer if they're a top

9:23 AM
Dang girl, are you a robber? Because I don't know who tf you are and how tf you got into my home. Gtfo before I call the police.

3 hours later…
12:48 PM
LETS GOO
Finally
opencv works!

‘Lo.

1 hour later…
2:29 PM
@RydwolfPrograms could you help me with something?

@hyper-neutrino has agreed to transfer his [[Savings]] ownership of the Vyxal Bot account to me, but he needs an email to use
so would you mind if I used an amidst.dev one?

Sure, go ahead

FINALLY!!! I KNEW YOU WOULD [[Request Accepted]]
@hyper-neutrino HERE I GO!!! BEGIN THE [[Transfer]]

2:32 PM
clearly you're not a [Big Shot]
anyway, just set the email to vyxalbot@amidst.dev
brb

@mathcat :D

2:46 PM
yup, setting up poetry rn

@mathcat :D

I probably won't be able to do much today (cause personal stuff), but I will write some boilerplate code

@RydwolfPrograms when will your server be ready? I just had to wait around 30s for Vyxal Bot 2 to start on my current droplet :p

rto.community?

yup

2:54 PM
Or the old one I was gonna let you use if MediaWiki ended up being too slow

wait
@RydwolfPrograms that one
I've got about 1500ms ping for the droplet rn :p
oh wait, it's 2000ms now

3:10 PM
@RydwolfPrograms the Python language server crashed and now performance is great :/

You're probably running low on RAM yeah

I very much am

Should be two to four days before I get the server online. I'll need to Gingerproof it (i.e. remove all the backups of my personal information I store on it :p), but you should be good once I finish that

@RydwolfPrograms I had to shut down most of the services for the wiki to even have enough RAM for a stable VSCode connection :b

@Ginger please confirm the login in your email

3:13 PM
@RydwolfPrograms forward it to wilford.izavier@moabuild.com
(it's a temp email)

I think you need to send me the link so I can open it in my browser; you can DM me on Discord if you have it @ HyperNeutrino#1759 and if not you can just flag a post of yours and put the link there I guess lol

Sure it is, Wilford :p

*cough*

Got the link, lemme try to get Discord open
Forwarded it too
@Ginger Since it'll only be a few days before you can move over to my self-hosted server, I'm upgrading you to a better droplet (since it's hourly, and three days won't cost much)
How much RAM do you think you'll need?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

3:18 PM
okay how do I give you the password ginger

@hyper-neutrino you can send it to that temp email ig
I'll change it

oh right
wilford?

@RydwolfPrograms maybe double the current amount?
@hyper-neutrino randomly generated, idk

no i mean like, you want me to send it to wilford right

yes
also, wow sechat v2 is fast
it's like 3x faster starting up than the older version

3:20 PM

> Gi|\|ger

@Ginger Your droplet's gonna have to be shut down for a few minutes, is that fine?

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
one second
ok, do it
@RydwolfPrograms I will say, this Wilford guy has an excellent mustache

You now have 2 vCPUs and 4 GB of RAM
Have fun :p

cool!
...are you sure it's fully working?
vscode says the tunnel isn't online
oop nvm
yeah this is much better
it's almost half the performance of my Raspberry Pi!

3:27 PM
sent the email

nice
dammit captcha

I am going to train a markov chain on names
I will generate names people have never had before

@RydwolfPrograms well keep in mind most people don't name their child "yOroeop refwpeRInG"

No no no these will be sensible names we just haven't discovered yet

I’m back.

3:40 PM
no, you're parz
lmao gottem

@RydwolfPrograms is “Lamo” (pron. lah-MOH) viable?
Do you want me to draw @lyxal

Well, the first random name I got is:
"Za Brais"

._.

"Polaneellemileren Kan Ro"
hi guys my name is "Kar"

you should set up a temporary email service and use these names as the addresses

3:46 PM
"Kranon Tonnz" actually sounds like a real name
As does "Malia Garaydonn Yererich"

Let me try

how'd you make the chain so fast?

I’m using a premade chain (lol im trash at programming)

I just built a map from tokens to lists of all following tokens, transformed that to the counts, then used a weighted random

wow

3:49 PM
daaaaaaaaaang
Nguuqsuustuu Taarkki?
Elearbed Shram?

Since I have such a big dataset, I might be able to make something smarter than a markov chain

Maybe
[send-me-teh-codez]

oof
Opencv is working globally, but not in the poetry venv

ooh, I bet I know what it is

@mathcat oof

3:59 PM
@Ginger ?

@mathcat run poetry config --local virtualenvs.options.system-site-packages true and try again

Word of the Day (WotD): whyo: a gang or band member

@Ginger nope, that's the problem, I couldn't install opencv as a site package, so I had to manually build it
... wait

language

oops nvm I'm dumb

4:03 PM
lmao

languageeeeee

also fwiw if you have a wheel for opencv Poetry should be able to install it directly
also also IIRC there are premade wheels for OpenCV on Piwheels

wait what that
Oh right
19 hours ago, by mathcat
apt install python3-opencv works, but smh python throws a module not found error.

have you tried adding piwheels as a poetry source yet

no, how do you do that?

4:08 PM
poetry source add piwheels https://piwheels.org/simple
do note that Poetry might not look there for the OpenCV wheels first
if it doesn't lmk

"Tren Borge Nguis"
"Jami Patoebarr"

"Gaberenca"
Not sure these are any better :p
I should train this on some English text

CV to the rescue!
Or linguistics!
Or anything!

> But unks anint tand thaturfuses whaves the bonessid the ing
Yeah it's as bad as I expected :p

4:16 PM
It’s readable.
You can read the words.
But drop the -ing at the end.
Most verbs or whatever you’re trying to do should just stay unconjugated for now.
Try making Latin names, that seems much easier.

> × pip subprocess to install build dependencies did not run successfully.

Wow this is readable:
> “I somethers mesailling took the

“mesailling”
That’s actually incredible though.
I wonder if we could train it in l33tsp34k

4:31 PM
This is really weird - python knows where cv2 is located, but whereis opencv-python or pip show opencv-python doesn't return anything.

@mathcat are you running it inside your Poetry venv? try poetry shell

yeah, but poetry-python can't even import cv2
I'm just trying to find out where my build is located
you know what? I'm going to ditch poetry too.
At least a version of opencv works, that is sufficient.
Although then my project will look super unprofessional.

@Ginger if you want it even faster switch to a static compiled/jit language

There is one thing I haven't tried yet, opencv-python-headless
smh those binaries don't seem to be debian compatible

3 hours later…
7:41 PM
As if school lunch couldn't get any worse I just stood in line for 20m only for them to run out right when I got to the front
So I had to go get in another 10m long line to get...
"pasta"
Our school food is literally nutrient paste rearranged into things that look like food
It's all performative
The bread is not bread, the pasta is not pasta, and the meat is definitely not meat

@UnrelatedString sorry, i don’t get the joke

Aaaaah

I thought haskell didn’t have a single base type

HELP

When you combine incredibly poorly thought through (lack-of-)nutrition requirements with whoever-bids-the-least government contracting bullshit you get modelling clay with amino acids stirred in

7:43 PM
@RydwolfPrograms even the bread is fake? How
How is that even legal lol
Even in Texas

The bread might be bread but it's never the right kind

what is this??

The rolls are like, this oily 90% air stuff

i like bread
yummy

7:44 PM
@mathcat Display manager not working?
What did you do last time?

The hamburger buns are the same but spongier and slightly more dense, but they taste burnt

I have no idea what happened to my rpi

Despite being literally cold and wet

Can you go out and buy your own lunc?

@user Install a module, I was at 1GB storage space so should be fine
Wait

7:45 PM
@mathcat What's wrong with it? The cursor being on the wrong line?

I uninstalled libgl1

Oh wait do you usually have a GUI

@RydwolfPrograms i assume instead of a terminal they get a gui usually

Yeah

Yeah

7:45 PM
@user No, closed campus

@RydwolfPrograms my hs had a closed campus and plenty of people would get star bucks all the time

@mathcat did I mess up?

Thanks to Uvalde

You can probably sneak out and get something that won’t kill you

How would I get back in

7:47 PM
Unless the punishment for sneaking out is harsh
@RydwolfPrograms knock hard on the doors until someone lets you in
Or get food for other people and have them open the door

There are no exterior facing doors, except the very front ones where you go through a security airlock thingy

You know what, nvm, i shouldn’t be encouraging kids to break rules

All the other ones go into a secure courtyard

@RydwolfPrograms tf
Are You in a prison or school

Welcome to America
Both
They're even funded the same way
Our school was built with tons of open areas inside for collaboration and stuff
And we can't use any of them now
Our classroom doors have to remain shut and locked
All of the classrooms have big glass panels that can slide out of the way instead of walls, so you can see out into the "flex space" and open the wall to be a part of it. They've been closed and covered with blinds the whole time I've been here
The team of architects came to my elementary school and showed us the renders, talking about how once we got to high school we'd be in this cool new environment that would totally catch on and change school forever
(it hadn't been built yet)
They apparently didn't realize they were designing a prison
In fact, the trend currently is adopting techniques from prisons in elementary schools more directly, like limited lines of sight, and elevated areas with high visibility across the entire campus
Schools should not be prisons and they should not be designed around violence

7:58 PM
well, the alternative would be fixing the society to not be designed around violence, and that'd obviously be too much to ask
damn so they decided the school-prison pipeline wasn't enough and just made school prisons too?

@hyper-neutrino Well duh, it'd be so hard to stop letting people buy guns, much easier to redesign schools and let a handful of kids die here and there

Well there's also the question of whether architectural choices like those actually prevent much violence, and whether the small amount it may contribute is worth the psychological harm of people living with constant visible reminders of the danger they face just by going to school
@user Well the redesigning is to limit violence

I didn't say otherwise

have you seen the back-to-school ad about school shootings? i'll find it in a bit but i think it does a great job showing just how fucked up everything is where students bear the psychological load of america being unwilling to acknowledge that their problem is unique among developed nations and it's not something that "nobody can do anything about"

@user Oh misread

@user Well it's different people making those decisions
Trying to change schools to limit violence is more of a cry of helplessness than anything
A last-ditch attempt to protect people at whatever the cost in the face of a threat the people in charge do not care to fix

Right, yeah

(of course, there's probably right-wing school admins who see it more like that, but I'd assume they tend to be more left-leaning)
The solution is of course to keep giving school police departments grenade launchers and MRAPs

*teachers

They returned the grenade launchers apparently
@user Oh yeah, that brilliance
Just put more guns in school, that'll solve it

8:46 PM
@Steffan Could you give me a hint on how to take input in Scala on week.golf?
Iterator.continually(io.StdIn.readLine).takeWhile(_!=null) times out on both week.golf and ATO even though I found an answer on SO using exactly that approach
object?extends App{print(io.Source.stdin.getLines.flatMap(s=>1.to(365,s.toInt)).toSet.size)} works on my laptop but week.golf says it times out
(also times out on ATO)
Maybe my computer is secretly a Cray supercomputer and can do infinite loops in 2 seconds

@user undefined
and the type of looping/error computations that can be treated like any normal type because it doesn't matter anyways is called "bottom" :P

9:04 PM
@RydwolfPrograms Meat cube!

One of my favorite things is the advertising/interior design/decoration materials from the new contractor my school district hired for the food
It includes these big like, crossword-looking things with food-related words
But I have no clue who picked the words because they're hilarious
One of them is like, big nebulous things like "food", "yum", "italian", etc., but the biggest font is reserved for..."CILANTRO"
One has "FAST" in huge font. (Presumably they expect the school to distribute the food in an efficient manner). But it is a pretty accurate description of what the food makes me want to do.
> Sodexo is in the process of rolling out a new meal approach targeted specifically at high schools that utilizes lessons learned from extensive research into GenZ taste and retail dining preferences. Called Taste4, it incorporates GenZ’s school lunch preferences for fresh food, flavorful options and spending time with friends in a fun environment.
lol
They sure did a great job
Idk how that's supposed to work given that all they provide is the food and it's the same exact food the other contractors provided
Like indistinguishable
They use the same recipes
And the menu is unchanged

@UnrelatedString I don't think the Toy Story trilogy needs another movie :P
@user I'm literally in Kansas right now ಠ_ಠ

Sorry, I don’t make the rules
—-but if i did you wouldn’t be on any map—-
@DLosc name one cool thing about kansas and you shall be spared

9:19 PM
See, this is really just a mind-reading challenge, since I don't know what you'll consider cool

No, you’re just stalling, any deserving state would have several things that most Americans would consider cool

Well, most Americans would consider theme parks cool, but I don't, so...
I like the system of walking/biking trails that extends for miles along a couple of creeks in the area.

Okay, earhart was from kansas

Also Dorothy Gale

I thought the whole point of that was that kansas was the polar opposite of oz: plain, drab, boring
I guess their definition of interesting doesn’t match up with mine

9:25 PM
@user Well I was going to mention that Dwight Eisenhower was from Kansas but that would just be redundant now :P

Apparently kansas is flatter than a pancake but I don’t even know what that means
@DLosc sorry, i don’t know enough about history, what’s the joke?
Kansas’s flag seems a little overdone, but who am i to complain, i live in Maryland. Our flag is reason enough to sell off the whole state to someone else

@user Eisenhower seems like a pretty plain/boring president. But maybe that's just because I don't know very much about him.

Ah, ok

He was responsible for sending the 101st Airborne to protect the Little Rock Nine, so that's interesting.

Oh nice

9:30 PM
Eisenhower made the speech about the military-industrial complex and is responsible for our highway system

Was he the one that both parties wanted?

He's also on the half-dollar and was the WWII five star general

@RydwolfPrograms which speech is that?

Idk, I think he was one of the first to bring up the military-industrial complex as a thing tho
Like, worth the public's consideration/a threat in any way
Almost done with P4C4 of Nitro and it's gonna be a good one
I've actually had some fun with the drawing

> Original Home of Pizza Hut
This is one of the most interesting facts about Kansas.
5
Uhh...

9:32 PM
lol

Yeah that’s not a very good list
Most of those are pretty boring facts

I do like sunsets and sunflowers

9:46 PM
Right, and it's also nice that the people in Kansas are friendly (or at least perceived that way), but it's not super interesting
I wanna hear about Town Hall Crocodile Attack Incidents and UFO landings
@UnrelatedString I wouldn't say that's a top type, it's just polymorphic, right? Haskell may have a bottom but it doesn't seem to have a top

1 hour later…
10:48 PM
oh i see yeah no
my original quip is in the sense of "anyone's type" = bottom = opposite of top

Oh

11:13 PM
@user io.Source.stdin.getLines gets all lines
> and ATO

ATO scala is broken, and Weekgolf has strange issues with random timeouts
Also it's scala 3 so you can do @main def f=...
Thanks for the solution lol, that's a lot shorter than what I had
You're not supposed to share your solutions until the week is over
Nvm that produces the wrong answer anyway
Looks like you misunderstood the question lol.
Also you can add solutions to the previous problems too

@user Hate when that happens
Keep accidentally getting crypto miner viruses and crashing the whole blockchain
The other day I accidentally sat on my computer's reload key and DDoSed the entirety of Google

11:43 PM
@Steffan Oh, I printed out the Scala version and it said 2.13.8
@Steffan lmao
> that's a lot shorter than what I had
Easy way to get shorter solution: "Solve" a different problem entirely :P
Still getting timeouts on week.golf even though it doesn't timeout on my own computer :(

@user You're giving me flashbacks to a research project in college...

Oh no, did you spend a bunch of time researching the wrong thing?
week.golf times out even for @main def m=print(io.Source.stdin.getLines). I give up

@Steffan I know now we're not supposed to share solutions, but I literally have no idea how to get this to work, so here you go: @main def m=print(io.Source.stdin.getLines.map(s=>1.to(365,s.toInt).toSet).reduce(_&_).size) (no idea if this works either :P)
It's possible that it just takes a really long time to start up the Scala container and then compile stuff lol

@user I thought I had found a polynomial-time graph-coloring algorithm that was producing pretty good results (not optimal, I didn't expect that because it's NP-hard, but pretty good). It took me a while to figure out that the results it was producing were not always valid colorings. :P

11:58 PM
lmao nice

The week.golf developer is unnecessarily secretive - it took a long time to get them to upload their code to GitHub, and even now, the latest update is from like 3 months ago, even though new languages have been added since then. So I can't see if there's anything wrong with the Scala container's setup
rip
Did you find a way to recover from that?

@user Sort of--I could convert the results to a valid coloring by adding more colors, but then the results weren't very good anymore.

:|

It happens.

Hopefully you were on a team where you could shift the blame onto someone else spread the blame equally
