12:38 AM
@JourneymanGeek Yeah, some of us do.
Oh hi, @OliverSalzburg, I'm going to sleep now... xD

Oh, not me
I'm still looking at the internets

Fixed now? :)

Fixed what?

The sentence you incorrectly read, it's more verbose now.

12:41 AM
Forgive me, I've been adjusting minuscule amounts of CSS shadows for the past hour

xO

I still don't get it, but I think if we discuss it further we'll just introduce more confusion

He said he is going to bed.

That's what I thought

And you said you are looking at cat pictures on the internet.

12:42 AM
lol

and adjusting the css shadows on them

As in "You do that, while I look these cat pictures"

someone has to make sure our cat pictures are perfect!

But now you are chatting with us.

12:43 AM
Imperfect cat pictures will invoke the wraith of our feline overlords, shortly before they get distracted by a ball of yarn

@JourneymanGeek says the dog?
Ironic

lol. Dogs are humanity's one hope to escape the clutches of the feline overlords.

:D

waits for the desktop to boot up so he can check his backups
I want to wipe my old laptop so I can mess around with it.

Have fun.

12:47 AM
No, I do not need clippy's help for that

How sweet of you clippy.

damn, I have no backups ><
moar work ><

what happened??

lol
must have deleted them
simply means I need to re-backup the darned thing

ah

1:00 AM
and I'm messing with the bootloader before that
which is probably a bad idea

i can't remember the time when it was a good idea to mess with the bootloader

right after you do a full disk backup
I'm mainly concerned with the two windows partitions tho

rock n roll then

the rest I can nuke quite happily
(I haven't booted this system in ages)

dust it well man

1:09 AM
lol
artemis is pretty clean

you call it artemis?

I DO have a minor issue with the middle mouse button being broken and the screen browning
lol
I name all my systems

@JourneymanGeek yeah just a minor issue.
@JourneymanGeek i have only one. So, haven't thought of naming yet

My personal ones are named after greek goddesses - Athena , artemis, and juno. The system I am planning on building is nyx

Aha ;)

1:11 AM
my little personal server (which is currently down) is tamandua, since her predecessor was kitten.

how many more? O_o

lol
@jokerdino: my old laptop, current laptop, box i picked up from the recycle bin

just 3

lol
OH
and the 2 ex office boxen i forgot about
and dad's 2 laptops

>___>

1:18 AM
lol

way to go anyway.
i can't imagine how i can take care of so many of them

the ex office boxen? we keep one and the hard drives of 2 identical systems in case there's something on it we need
most of these are in storage. only Athena, Juno, and BB and dad's 2 are actively used
we also have a tendancy of keeping anything that runs

ah

Once I get nyx built I'll likely get a KVM and switch juno to being a full time linux box

1:41 AM
@r.tanner.f Nah, it was nothing, this is the internet :P
@jokerdino now now, do not get your hopes up :P

@HackToHell No I was saying what if you were a girl and he was harassing you.

@jokerdino :/

I would have killed you if that was a Rick Roll.

2:30 AM
hmm
looking at the webapps elections
@sathya got a bit of a landslide

you don't say

which STV method do they use?
I'm actually more interested in one of the other candidates ;p

meek

how did EC get 14 first choices?
the other guy got 19 >_>

:O

2:33 AM
i'm guessing he got a lot of second choices tho

there are people who hate Jeff Atwood

so they'd vote a guy who seems to be loony fringe?

ChrisFFor a Windows based PC when it shuts down normally it will write an entry into event log detailing when and why (if known) it was shut down. It also writes an event when the PC starts up. Q: Windows 7 and Vista Activation FAQ: How do language, version, 64-bit or 32-bit, and source affect ability to install and transfer Windows licenses?

@JourneymanGeek Copying them is harder than Ctrl+C,Ctrl+V

@OliverSalzburg: lol
silly thing is there's a free book i was looking at, but for some reason, they haven't updated as they planned
and the updates are the interesting bits

> google it to find more specific answer:Shut down logs on my Windows PC

@jokerdino His other answer is much better

11:41 AM
He got two answers?
wah, sarcasm
I can't think of a good title. So I left that uncorrected.

I need a proper comment template for "Thanks for you effort but it's not enough" :(

i know my edit wasn't good enough. :P
I'll try to improve on the title

My AV updates 3rice in a day :P
@Sathya congrates dude fro being mod part of WA :)

@jokerdino That's wasn't meant for you ;)

11:52 AM
@OliverSalzburg lol

@OliverSalzburg oh

Your answer doesn't really explain anything. Especially in the light of the information that was already posted. Additionally, you're referring people to a search engine, which is usually exactly where they're coming from. — Oliver Salzburg 3 mins ago
That's what I've used

Bob
@OliverSalzburg Nudge them to improve on it?

Answers like that blow my mind
You read Chris' and Davids answer and then go "Hey, I have additional valuable information!"

Bob
You should expand this answer, perhaps by providing step-by-step instructions and explaining the reasoning behind this course of action and/or why your solution works.
I dunno :P

11:54 AM
@Bob Feel free to leave additional comments :)

> Thanks for your time and effort but I believe this isn't enough to sufficiently and satisfactorily answer the question in hand. Consider improving on your answer to add more relevant information such as step-by-step instructions, useful supplementary links, screenshots, etc.
Wah, wrote one :P

@Bob Or was that already a suggestion for my template? :D

Bob
A suggestion for your template..

Ah
@jokerdino You see, the fear I'd have with that is that it would just "noise up" already bad answers

Bob
Of course, @jokerdino's one is better xD

11:57 AM
Often, the problem is not in the details. It's with the whole package... there's just nothing in it :D
Sometimes people can spend 4 paragraph trying to explain to you how to edit your HOSTS file, when the question was about installing ATI graphics drivers on FreeBSD

@OliverSalzburg it was a template. Add in and take away parts of the comments :P
But a lazy answerer wouldn't bother reading the comments anyway.

@jokerdino Didn't want to sound ungrateful ;)

I mean, he didn't even bother reading the question properly.

Bob
On the other hand, precise instructions are always better than a vague comment and an explanation of why could lead others on to the correct solution (if this was incorrect)

@jokerdino Good point

11:59 AM
@Bob I was writing half way and your comment influenced the second part :P

Doesn't any one in VTC section ?

@avirk Humm?

@OliverSalzburg :D

Q: What hidden features have you found in iOS 6?

Steve MoserThis is the required hidden gems questions for iOS 6. Here are the rules: One feature per answer Also include how you use the feature or why it is useful Must be an under-documented feature. No "flag pole" features like VIP's in Mail.

If it ends up in Supercollider, I'll kill 'em.

12:12 PM
Someone put a bounty on it O__o
I want those questions too! :D

sigh

Bob
@OliverSalzburg Closed in about 5 minutes on SU :P

Very rarely does Ask Ubuntu end up on the collider.

@Bob I really like questions like that because they gather a lot of attention
They're useless very quick, but I have no problem to delete them then :P
If the name of your site goes through Reddit, Twitter, G+, etc because of a "stupid, NC, OT question" then, by all means
We can spend the rest of eternity to explain to people that those question were just bait :D

Bob

@Josh Why would that not be an answer? superuser.com/questions/375042/…

@slhck It would seem that that answer is a great tutorial to get a sharing environment up and running between different versions of Windows. I don't see how it answers the question of how Network Discovery and Filesharing is related to the Windows Firewall settings

12:50 PM
@Josh Ah, well it's copypasta from howtogeek.com anyway
Maybe you can use the custom flag reason for these kinds of posts in the future? If you tell us what you've just told me above that's easier to process than just "not an answer" :)

Although, I wonder how much we'll need that room now with the new review system

;D

@allquixotic Well, you don't have to open every room in a new tab :D

3:05 PM
next we'll need a chatroom for talking about turtles, and a chatroom for talking about @SathyaHamster, and a chatroom for talking about clippy, and a chatroom for talking about @OliverSalzburg's pet nematoad, and a chatroom for talking about Avirk's penchant for peach ice cream...
this is why I'm anti-microkernel

Well, you can always pop into the Close/Delete room and go through the log with a specific task
That would be a lot harder in here

@allquixotic I am a strong believer of micro classification.
I might become a taxonomist.

Well, I didn't want to imply that it must be used anyway. Just wanted to mention it in case the room was unknown :)

@OliverSalzburg That's what she said

@allquixotic My little pony.

@jokerdino Your little what?! 6.2 inches?

That was @JourneymanGeek.

@OliverSalzburg Stupid thing is that most of them aren't really hidden.

3:40 PM
@TomWijsman Which is confusing because, why wouldn't you hide your latest features :D

@OliverSalzburg So people can actually answer those hidden features advertisements questions.

it's important to conceal your features so that users discovering them are impressed by how the operating system organically grows around their needs, providing an even greater sense of religious zeal for the operating system and platform

24
A: What hidden features have you found in iOS 6?

Alain KingAlarms can now make use of songs not just built in tones. Edit your alarm and select sound and then pick a song.

If only... Hold your WP7 upside down, unlock and lock the lock screen 3 times, get an upgrade to WP8. xD

3:42 PM
LOL, Nokia 1100 had that feature.

Telling them about features spoils the sense of discovery and surprise, which is bad for business.

Edit your alarm and select sound, I really don't see why this is hidden. :(

All they need to know is that iOS 6 is a magical, wondrous new operating system that "screams".

If it were Super User, I'd actually go and flag "not an answer" on some. :D
Sublime Text 2!

@TomWijsman I've seen a lot of sophisticated text editors, commercial and free, over the years. Just the homepage of Sublime made me raise my eyebrow; that's saying something. If you're an advocate of this editor, can you sell me on why I should use this over any other editor for code/XML/etc?
I can even afford to buy a license, so I'm kinda seriously considering it.

3:50 PM
@allquixotic This is the front page: sublimetext.com

nod But what are the killer feature(s) for you that few/no other editors have?
Aside from it looking fabulously awesome... >_>

They're right on that page. :D
Ease of use and more advanced nifty features within reach, shiny and good on the eyes...

distraction free mode sounds interesting for coding up something where you have a really strong command of the API and a clear direction in your head and just need to type out a LOT of code without task switching
not to mention it's gotta be nice to have all that real estate on my laptop's gimped 1366x768 resolution... Eclipse's chrome really steals a lot of screen space

Yeah, exactly.
You can also quickly jump to files / functions.

@TomWijsman which sounds like something that's easy to learn but hard to master; once I got the hang of that, it might be faster than clicking between tabs in Eclipse, heh

3:57 PM
Nah, it's just searching. All you need to remember is the hotkey and the name of the file. Or just show the file list at the left or right if you have to.

I've traditionally kept my own source files rather small and split up the functions between many files/classes mainly because reading through a huge source file to find a particular function is harder than remembering what stuff is in which file
when I have to edit someone else's huge source files I just use the project-wide find command in eclipse

And that file tree is just the file tree, no shiny feature buttons around it you don't need.

interesting
gah. where do they list language support?! they show C++ and python in their demo...

@allquixotic A lot of languages, you can install bundles (I linked that to @slhck some while ago I think) to add a missing one, but it isn't short.

nice :)
it'd be worth it for me if it had C, C++, Java and Python... tack on Vala and I'm in love :p
actually no, probably not... Anjuta has a pretty much unique way of automatically doing the autoconf/automake project setup and dependency management tasks for Vala/GLib programs, I seriously doubt Sublime does that, so I wouldn't be able to replace Anjuta with Sublime for Vala programs...
