@andrew.46 thanks!

2 hours later…
1:48 PM
@NotTheDr01ds You'll also get Mortarboard toady.. 😎

:O
I'm still missing that

@ArturMeinild Ah, right - Thanks! Forgot that it doesn't need to be all on one question.

@BeastOfCaerbannog Again 🤞
You were unlucky that you didn't get it with this... askubuntu.com/a/1424846/1066942
@NotTheDr01ds Yeah it's daily total. 😁
If it was one question it would be close to impossible - and it's still pretty tough for a bronze badge! 😅

@ArturMeinild Yeah. I am actually still surprised that this one went so well

2:43 PM
But then I get distracted actually reading the answers :P
You know, mmv has been on my list of things to remember to add to my regular toolbox for over a decade now. I literally have a "todo" list somewhere with mmv actually listed on it. And I just never need it often enough to have it become a habit.

@NotTheDr01ds It's just awesome! So nice and intuitive to use!

@BeastOfCaerbannog Yeah, but since I'm a Windows user at the core, I have Directory Opus, and seriously, there's just no file manager that comes close to it for Linux. It includes Regex renaming (and even script-based renaming).
With a visual confirmation as well.
If I was ever going to work on an open-source project for Linux, it would be to start to try to recreate Dopus.
Well, not "work-on" because I've done that, but "put some serious investment into".

@NotTheDr01ds Wow! Seems great! I had never heard of it!
Though it's not free

@BeastOfCaerbannog True, but it is the most worthwhile piece of software I've ever paid for, I believe. They haven't bumped the core version in years, so it's been a one-time fee.

That line showing the directory path on the left is awesome

2:56 PM
@BeastOfCaerbannog Dang - And I don't even have that turned on!

@NotTheDr01ds The price bites!

True - They did a 40% off sale for Black Friday/Cyber Monday, but other than that.
It does include 3 licenses essentially, though (IIRC).

@NotTheDr01ds :O I would install it only for that feature! :P

I typically just run in "dual vertical" mode, where it's like Norton Commander (or any of the subsequent dual-pane "commanders" (e.g. mc)).

Many Linux users swear by mc, but I never really liked it. I prefer ranger for a terminal file manager.

3:02 PM
Then I open the side metadata/preview pane when needed.
Yes, ranger is definitely an improvement over mc.
mc is just embedded in my brain, or at least it was at one point. Typically I just use it now to test line-drawing character support :P

@NotTheDr01ds That's certainly handy. I like ranger for its previewing capabilities and it's great for previewing images too (that's why I use kitty as my terminal).
