12:52 AM
Remind me tomorrow to get the model number of my schools' phones
I bet I'll be able to in APUSH

7 hours later…
8:06 AM
Somehow youtube set itself to 6.9x speed.
nice

4 hours later…
12:03 PM
another submission for caird's pfp contest

Which tool did you use?

DALLE-2
you give it a picture, erase a bit of the background, give it a prompt on what it should fill in the places you erased, and it does the rest

nice

Really easy to make too
@mathcat do you have a picture you want spookified?

I signed up

12:14 PM

splulps
@lyxal can you try re-spookifying my pfp?

I can give it a go

thanks

just gonna switch to my spooky month pfp first

because the results for caird look so much better than what I got

12:16 PM
I had more image to play with for caird
give me an image with a background to remove

can you just use my profile?
or is that not worky
<- because this cat does not, in fact, exist
...damn it

as I said, there's not enough background

hmmm
I have this version as well:
there, is that any better?

for example, this much background is what I mean

ah
well the above image is the original, uncropped, unedited (except for the foka) one

12:19 PM
That way, I can actually use DALLE to fully switch the background, apply clothing, etc

;-;

dalle is awesome

use dalle to generate the background for you

you saw what happens when I do that

I did, it's about the funniest thing I've seen this week
there must be a way

12:21 PM
@Ginger where?

one second

lmao

how's that

lol

12:23 PM
@mathcat found em:

(I removed the text parts so it doesn't think "hey I'll make more white boxes with what I think is text")

>>>>>>>>:(
@lyxal so this ain't half bad actually
but I think that better can be done

while I do some work on it

12:28 PM

waltuh, put the fork away waltuh, you're not supposed to put a fork in the microwave waltuh

^ I like this one more

also, I just zoomed in on that last living room image:
- one of the tvs shows a person with ears the size of his face talking to another person with NO face and a stump for an arm
- the other one shows what I can only assume is an oil painting of the Fresh Prince made by someone on LSD
- a lot of the cats have dog faces
- I appear to have a malignant tumor growing out of my back
- I ALSO appear to have a front leg with two knees and a weird human-like fist
- the carpet border on one side looks like soul sand but with cat faces
funniest shit I've ever seen

oh my god

12:31 PM

do not listen if I invite you over for a cuppa

your hat too big

he hat too big for he got dam head

12:35 PM

the hunchcat of notre dame

wow it spelled "halloween" correct

So, do any of those seem suitable for PFP purposes

well
I still like the first one (with just my face) more
but I'll think about it
thanks very much

12:36 PM
np

@mathcat if we ever do another AiPFP Week I'm going to use this one

every week is AiPFP week for mathcat, pygamer0 and I :p

fair enough
ok new pfp deployed

protip: go to your chat user profile and set your site to code golf
that'll update it quicker in chat

I did
the delay was me adding the foka back on

2:03 PM
oh boy I love meeting things

2:16 PM
okay so I am currently working on sechat version 1.2! which will have exciting new features including:
- message history
- anonymous API for accessing logs and stuff without being signed in
- more complete transcript functions
- unit tests so I don't accidentally introduce errors into releases
also, as of right now sechat 1.0.4 has a bug that makes it unusable, so download 1.0.3 instead please

what @cairdcoinheringaahing's house looks like

uh
what

argh image not uploading

oh
thought you were asking a question lol

@Seggan It's made exclusively of jelly jelly

2:19 PM
ofc
my money don't jelly jelly, it folds

That's jelly (as in gelatin) with a bunch of Jelly code printed on it

imo best perk of getting 1k rep is being able to see detailed vote counts

caird's house ^^
@Ginger yep

@Ginger Isn't that the only privilege of 1k?

2:22 PM
...it is lol
but I like it

2:37 PM
hey @RadvylfPrograms do you mind if I make another bot account using amidst.dev for email? I need to make one for unit tests for sechat
bc I don't want GB or OLIMAR being compromised if I screw up and release the account data by accident

2:56 PM
@Ginger Sure

okey dokey, just a sec

Do you have an email address of your own? If so, I can set it to forward the emails to you so you don't need to wait on me to relay information

not a public one
but, I will soon have my own site
so then I'll just use it instead
@RadvylfPrograms also, message sent

I just read "TOPIC" with a long "o" and was very confused for about 3 seconds

3:00 PM
Your registration is complete

yay

@cairdcoinheringaahing how close is this to ur house

The puppy is accurate, the rest isn't

DALLE2 I believed in you...

3:24 PM
now we need a pfp for Unit Tester
@mathcat think you can whip something up?

@DLosc alright I replaced ubuntu with alpine and the graphical programs aren't working, happy? :P

3:49 PM
DALLE gave me that

lmao

It looks angry
As if it knows the unit tests are gonna fail already

this ones nice
not this one
ginger can you stop deleting messages pls

but it was not contribuseful!

3:59 PM
It was fine

was it really?????

A deleted message takes up just as much space, as long as it's not like, offensive or really annoying, better to just leave it
Especially in OTTNB

okay, sorry
will try to be more careful about what I send in the future

You didn't do anything wrong, your message was perfectly fine
I'm saying you're being too careful :p

^ exactly

4:04 PM
I mean of course be aware of what should and shouldn't be sent, but especially in OTTNB, don't ruin your time spent here by excessively moderating yourself and worrying about every little message.

huh, maybe I have anxiety issues
need to look into that

I delete tons of message here. I just do it before sending them :P

but anyway, I saw this question and was genuinely confused because I didn't recall the US building any particle accelerators, let alone 50 of them, and then I realized that 1. it's talking about particle states and 2. the US does not have numbered states, let alone fractionally numbered ones
I think I need more sleep :b

Texas was going to have a really big particle accelerator but it got cancelled :(
Not by Twiiter though

Twiiter: Nintendo's brief foray into social media
5

4:08 PM
that totally could have been a thing

if the us did have numbered states what number would texas be

it'd probably be like 36 or smth and there would be a bunch of texans desperately trying to make it #1
there is no fear greater than that of accidentally right-clicking in a way that triggers a random option in a context menu which closes too fast for you to make out what you clicked and then watching the mouse turn into a loading icon
if you're lucky nothing will happen, if you're not it'll open a labyrinthine sequence of dialogs and popups which you will never again find your way out of
just noticed replit changed their logo

Cryptography being illegal to export was mega wack

4:32 PM
@Ginger a what?

4:56 PM
@mathcat profile picture

for what?

Unit Tester

I figured that much out.

:p
it's a bot whose only job is to be a puppet for the sechat unit testing system

nice

5:44 PM
@Ginger I dare you to use this as its pfp

ಠ_ಠ
also, I just realized something: to fully test this I actually need TWO bots
but I've bothered @RadvylfPrograms a bunch already
hmmmmmmm
I'll write my tests with 1 bot for now and maybe upgrade to two later

6:24 PM
@Ginger Dw about it
Make two bots if you want

okie dokie lol
@RadvylfPrograms now I need a witty name for the second one

twonit tester

PERFECT
@RadvylfPrograms sent

Registered

yay

6:32 PM
okay, what exactly are you two up to?

s c i e n c e
@mathcat know of any ez questions? I need to get this account some rep as well

-9
Q: Produce all even primes

cyberixaeA prime number is a positive integer that has exactly two divisors 1 and the number itself. For example number 7 is a prime since it is divisible by 1 and 7. Number 1 is not a prime since it has only one divisor. Write a program or function that produces all even prime numbers. This is a code go...

^ if 20 is enough
just answer in makina or whatever

> -9
and a makina answer would be too long and complex

well okay
hmm
idk then

@Ginger ...

6:45 PM
read: I can't be bothered
nvm found one

I think I may have found a way to nearly halve the data usage of NSMP

?how.

@mathcat Ok this challenge is epic

TIL the electric shock gloves used by the Equalists in The Legend of Korra are based on a real thing :O

@mousetail I know right

6:58 PM
@mathcat Chroma subsampling and some minor luma subsampling

...I thought NSMP meant "New Sandbox/Meta Posts"
:/

@RadvylfPrograms genius

By 4:2:0 subsampling the luma every other update, I drop that from 2 bits/px to 1.25 bits/px, then by 4:2:0 subsampling the chroma I drop that from 2 bits/px to 0.5 bits/px
Which means the average frame now uses just 1.75 bits per pixel

ow
how come I didn't think of that

7:06 PM
I could reduce the data usage by about 0.2 bits/px in a few different ways, but there'd be diminishing returns

What are you trying to do?

Making a video compression algorithm
It doesn't compress super well (about 20-40× bigger than MP4 with H.264), but it also doesn't look much worse

thamksyou
also I have given them PFPs now

which ones
nvm

2 hours later…
10:07 PM
Why does my house smell like smoke
TIL the Jimmy Carter rabbit incident was very very overexaggerated :(

11:08 PM
and apparently those are the same level of importance? :p

Yeah my sister has burnt my house to the ground and I got several third degree burns on my left kidney but how would I care about those things when Jimmy Carter didn't really get attacked by a rabbit
(Not really my house and my kidney are fine)

I mean it sounds somewhat plausible
@RadvylfPrograms I'm going to be hosting a web server on my RasPi soon, what should I do to prevent l33t h4x0rs from breaking in and screwing my shit up?

1. Use nginx and follow the typical recommendations
2. Don't forward anything but port 80 (and 443 if you use HTTPS, which I'd recommend via LetsEncrypt + certbot), and if you forward 22, adequately secure your SSH
3. Make sure your firewall is set up to only allow those ports (and the SSH port even if you don't have it forwarded to be accessible outside your LAN, which I'd recommend doing anyway if you don't care about SSHing when not home)

11:23 PM
I was going to use apache, is that bad?

Nah, that's fine

ok
also I want to host a mail server, what should I use?

Any of the big web servers will be pretty well hardened down, and security should basically be the default
@Ginger I would not recommend that

but you're doing it? or what are you doing then

It's gotten a lot more complicated to host reliably working email on your own machine from what I've heard
@Ginger I just have Google Domains forward emails to my personal Gmail

11:24 PM
ah
@RadvylfPrograms linux and "just works" go together like butter and antimatter: they just fukin explode

Even if you just plugged your RPi into the floor and installed a web server with absolutely no config and slapped a static site onto /var/www, you'd probably have no security issues. Linux and "just works" don't really go together, but Linux and "just doesn't have critical security flaws in web servers" do

> plugged your RPi into the floor
into the what now

It does "just work" for servers, honestly. I've had few issues, and they're easy to fix typically, with great support since unlike for personal use, Linux for servers is mainstream.
@Ginger The floor. Your carpet isn't made up of millions of bare ethernet wires?
You just twist 'em into pairs, clean off the cat hair, and you're good to go

the CAT hair

Siamese are CAT-7, but if you've got a regular old tabby, the fur's only CAT-5e and that'll be the weakest link in your setup
(The seal-point pattern gives Siamese cats good isolation, preventing signals from getting mixed up)

11:29 PM
ok now what

Coat your hand thoroughly in HTML and CSS, then slap your RPi and some of the static site should embed itself within your flash storage

@RadvylfPrograms it is but it's no fun walking around and constantly getting shocked by the PoE lines

They keep you awake way better than caffeine

my paws are on fire

Like my latest invention, the alarm-clock-with-spring-loaded-knife-plunger
It hasn't sold well but that's probably due to supply chain issues

11:31 PM
@RadvylfPrograms I'm sorry FLASH storage what kind of raspberry pis yall got in texas

They use SD cards, right? Those are flash storage devices

just wrote a file to my sd card and I didn't see any "flash" so no they're not, they're dark storage devices
like black holes and your mom

Who needs morning TV with breakfast when you've got Radvylf and Ginger to provide entertainment while you crunch your cereal? :p

Imagine morning

couldn't be me

11:36 PM
Imagine midday
Kiwi nerd.
