I like the Windows-L keyboard shortcut to lock the computer. Are there similar shortcuts for "Log Off" and "Standby"? Is it possible to remap Windows-L to a different function?
I loved the keyboard shortcuts in Windows 7 (i.e. Win + ← moves a window to the left side of the screen), but I'm not sure on what some of the new ones might be for Windows 8. What are all of the NEW keyboard shortcuts that I can use while working in Windows 8?

Seems like a reboot was all that was needed after adjusting the bypass-list, which must contain <local> so the WinHTTP proxy is bypassed for your local WSUS installation:

am I the only one who spends an inordinate amount of time re-reading my own answers and vainly admiring how good they are, almost every single time I get an upvote?
judging from the past two months of contribution, my rep seems to come in waves. overall I'm a fairly steady contributor and I don't reach the rep cap for the day very frequently, but my contributions scale with the amount of work (or lack thereof) that I have during my day job
so as long as I'm gainfully employed in a job where I'm not nailed to the wall 40 hours a week, I'll continue to contribute

I wish I could feel justified in picking on the noobishness of this guy, and the way that I have to spoon-feed him the answers, but I can't claim that I learned it in any better a way. I learned most of it in IRC and by searching mailing lists. I didn't read the docs, either :P
I've coded a project with some files in C. To make it easy for the user to start the program I started to generate a cfg-file. For this reason I installed libconf. Unfortunately on compiling with a test file I get this message.

at this point I seriously love autoconf and automake and make and pkg-config and yum (apt, not so much)... years ago I hated them... it's hard to love that which you don't understand o_O (deep thought there)
@JourneymanGeek Are they letting you keep the same contract if you buy your phones retail?
Verizon lets me do that, so I can pay $550 - $650 for a flagship smartphone but I still get unlimited data which saves me thousands of dollars in overage fees per year and allows me to use it as my primary internet connection :D
@HaydnWVN Sometimes I find a really interesting question that I can sink my teeth into and that sparks a long string of answers... if I read about 15 questions and find nothing I can sink my teeth into, I get discouraged and start sulking

I was out actively using social media in a near cellular dead-zone (so lots of tower hopping and searching) for about 8 hours last night and my battery only went down to 60%, and that's after listening to music on the train for an hour and using GPS in the car for an hour while navigating there

opening up Users and Computers -- as a native app on a Windows Phone would be pretty awesome. However, the likelihood that the network guys at a large enterprise would allow that is about 1 in 1000000000000, unless you happen to be one of the network guys.
@allquixotic This is what I was hoping for. If Microsoft would go whole hog and create native apps for all its server junk on a phone I'd buy the hell out of it.
my 7" tablet is just right for remote desktop, although I have to admit that my ThinkPad Tablet (slate; not a laptop) is the best Android device I've seen for remote desktop because I bought the keyboard folio that comes with a trackpoint on the keyboard
@r.tanner.f I don't know the details of how it works, but I assume time is a factor. Like when you get 6 upvotes with 5 seconds in between, then it's unlikely that the person actually read your stuff.

@r.tanner.f I just reinstalled my only computer with Notes on it :( But only a few weeks ago, we were setting up my account on someone else's laptop. That seemed rather easy :D Load mailbox file, restore tiles on a new tab and everything was fine.
