Hi there! As you probably know, we posted an interest check for the upcoming graduation election on meta. So far, only @CDJB and I have expressed interest by posting an answer to that meta question.
We've decided to reach out more proactively to some of you who are active and would have a good candidate score. Since the election has to be competitive, we'd need at least 4 candidates to maintain the current mod team size. Please consider taking the opportunity to run!

@JJJ I just threw my hat into the ring!

Poltics receives considerably more activity than do some sites that had graduated by the old rules. We need more moderators. I don't think I'm that guy, for two reasons: I'm still working (today was an 11 hour day), and as a person I respect very highly told me years ago, I don't suffer fools gladly. I've tried to tone that down, but it's not quite working.
But thanks for the invite.

@JJJ good moderators are passionate about SE but can be simultaneously and reliably dispassionate and objective when moderating, which is probably one step beyond what I could likely muster in a steady and reproducible fashion.
you can't fake a "light touch" :-)

5:28 AM
@JJJ: I'm of mixed feelings on this. I could give it a fly, but I'm not really the 'make friends and influence people' type, and I tend to rub some people the wrong way even when I'm being fair-minded and objective. Could I do the job well? Yes. Would everyone agree that I was doing it well? Probably not. Add that I'm considering taking on a project this summer that might cut into my free time... I dunno; it's a crapshoot.

5:49 AM
@JJJ I’ve considered it. There’s a part of me that would like to volunteer, but my free time is very inconsistent, and I’m not sure I could be impartial enough. I’ve been in too many comment arguments that I know shouldn’t keep going on but I just can’t stop responding…

6:28 AM
@JJJ I think my profile is way too controversial to get elected, but I've thrown in my candidacy :)

6:43 AM
@JJJ I appreciate the shoutout, but I'm with uhoh on this. I don't think I could serve in such a position in good faith. It's hard enough for me to do as a non-moderator.

Q: Politely, how can my question be made on-topic about Tucker Carlson producers?

46onstixx I have a question about my Politics Stack Exchange post: Why does the FCC allow Gregg Re to produce Tucker Carlson? Why is my question off-topic? I want to legitimately know why the FCC can ban something silly like "cunt" from TV shows but do they really not have any rules about who is allowed...

I think you have enough folks now. If you need more folks in, I can, but modding SO is pretty time-consuming

Wow, that's a lot of super-pings! (I think I have never seen more than one super-ping before.)

@MartinSleziak There's a super-ping mechanism in the moderator room. Using it for SO superpings all 26 SO mods

JJJ
Thanks for the responses everyone who left a message here and especially those who expressed interest in running themselves!
@Machavity Yea I think we're okay now. Though if you're interested, it's probably less pressure here and if you win you'd be one of the few with a diamond on SO and SE. ^^

12:08 PM
@Machavity So that's something different from the super-ping as described here: What is a 'superping'? (From what I read there the @@<chat-id> super-ping has to be entered for each user individually.)

@MartinSleziak It's a chat bot. You issue a command and it superpings all mods for that site. Useful for most SE sites, but not SO. Generally only CMs use it when there's a serious discussion in the SO mod room

I see. So that is still the same superping as described in the post - but the bot makes the work of typing the individual users.

JJJ
@MartinSleziak I used a data explorer query to get site-based user ids and then I used double@<id>@<politics.stackexchange.com> syntax. :)

@JJJ Yeah, I guess ChrisF is the only multi-mod on SO (he was the original Glorfindel)

JJJ
Yea that's pretty cool, he also has the MSE diamond, so that's like a diamond anywhere in public chat ^^
Or it's just more work, depending on how you look at it.

12:20 PM
Yeah, he's the only mod I know of with a diamond in SO and MSE. rene could have one in both if he wanted, but he's content with his StackApps diamond
In some ways, SO is too "political" :P

JJJ
Yea, at least Politics is quite laid back. It's mostly autoflags about chatty comments. Occasionally there are some problems with overly argumentative comments or posts. For me it's just interesting to see what goes on with in the community (as opposed to an endless flag queue). :P

@JJJ sadly I'm a bit too young, maybe 4 years later I'll run if I still use this site

JJJ
@EkadhSingh-ReinstateMonica Ah yeah, sorry, I forgot about that when I pinged everyone.

I am of the mind that the current mods are doing a good job and can just get promoted to full mods but am happy to throw my hat in the ring.

Just wondering, how many people consider closing a question and preventing answers a punishment and how many don't? I am asking because I voted to close a question and someone responded that my action was a reason I shouldn't be a moderator and that I was punishing the user by voting to close and preventing them from getting an answer. For reference the question has been closed once and is sitting at 3 close votes now.
