o\ zzz

5:21 AM
sleep well dream nice :)

13 hours later…
6:35 PM
@bobble sorry for not being here, i fell asleep super early! if you still want to rant i'm here today <3

basically I was complaining about the online class being boring and I said "I know you want me to do this"
and boy howdy was that the wrong phrasing

oh dear
was this to parents or teacher?

dad
"I'm not forcing you to do anything, you can make your own choices. But when you're looking for employment, if you don't have anything on your resume then you're not going to get jobs. But don't say that 'I' want you to do this, I'm not forcing you to" storms off
thus concludes bobble's short rant

on some level i understand because he wants you to have some internship stuff, but again, this is for after college, not in high school. his priorities are screwy
you will not be worrying until four years from now
assuming you get a small part-time job during the school year, which aren't hard to get if you are a nice person and meet a cool professor

in his mind, I will get an internship during the career fair on the second week of college or somesuch
because he's convinced that a) there will be a career fair then and b) a bunch of companies will be fighting over limited interns
(for summer jobs)

6:40 PM
yes, that's exactly how it will work /s
don't let it bug you. you know what you need to be worrying about, which is grades and college and fun stuff, not internship garbage
you are smart crown who is fine

i am fine? i am smart crown?

you are smart crown

I am mildly worried what will happen if I don't get his imagined internship
because don'cha know, he had an internship and was in like three clubs and ran a successful tutoring business

he may need to be reminded that in the current job market, there is no way to get an internship in freshman year of college
it's possible that your college offers research projects and stuff like mine, but if it's public they may be tough to get and competitive
just shoot for maybe a part-time job or a small research thing and you'll be fine

I'm hoping to enroll in a BS/MS program, which provides clear pathways to get spots in professors' research labs

6:48 PM
BS/MS programs are great, yeah
that's basically how i got my lab position
but like don't be stressed out about internships - part-time jobs and research lab positions are totally fine to do instead.

on another note, I did virtual tours of both campuses and they are gorgeous
so many open walkways! pretty buildings! bike racks!

nice! pretty campuses are a big plus, i loved wandering around my campus taking pictures of the buildings
make sure to look at the buildings and classrooms if the tour allows

but since they're both beautiful it doesn't help me choooose

hehe

tour only goes around the outside, unfortunately

6:51 PM
i must go, but on a related note to jobs, i have tentative super-good-amazing news, but i'm waiting on an email to be 100% sure <3 so will report back later

<3 good luck!

@Sciborg I am reviewing notes again and what even was September-me doing and why are all my sentences so stuck up and formal???
> In the winter of 1787, many prominent Anti-Federalists publicly fretted about how a powerful executive, not beholden to a select council, would act anti-democratively and against the people’s interests. The minority, at Pennsylvania’s ratifying convention, included the perils of an unchecked executive as a reason for their dissent. Hamilton argued that a council with even the slightest involuntary control over the president would result in copious amounts of infighting...

September-you was obviously feeling fancy :p

seriously who was this person

verbose crown

> Hamilton concludes his dissertation by quieting the main fear that Anti-Federalists had of a lone president - that such a figure would be too powerful and morph into a monarch.
> quieting the main fear
who talks like this, tell me

maybe you had read some Dickens recently and it rubbed off on you? :P

9:15 PM
what if this is why the universities rejected me, because they saw my essays and thought I was a century old
i should have written like a young 'un
then i would be collapsing even more over choices

those young 'uns and their dang contractions

and their borked shift keys

i hope North is doing all right, he seems really busy

he hasn't gotten the recommended daily amount of virtual hugs, has he

we must hug tree friend
the virtual hug quota demands it

Q: Where was the attacking boat?

SpyBoxOnlineIn Return Of The Jedi, during the battle over the Sarlacc, Luke is fighting some goons with his lightsaber on the sail barge or another skiff (I can't remember). Boba Fett is standing on a skiff aiming his wrist-mounted rocket launcher at Luke and Han Solo is lying unconscious behind him. Han Sol...

oooooh
the only time Boba Fett's name is said aloud in the original trilogy? dang, i didn't realize

so tell me, where was the attacking boat?

plot twist: there was no boat

9:32 PM

A mondegreen is a mishearing or misinterpretation of a phrase in a way that gives it a new meaning. Mondegreens are most often created by a person listening to a poem or a song; the listener, being unable to clearly hear a lyric, substitutes words that sound similar and make some kind of sense. American writer Sylvia Wright coined the term in 1954, writing that as a girl, when her mother read to her from Percy's Reliques, she had misheard the lyric "layd him on the green" in the fourth line of the Scottish ballad "The Bonny Earl of Murray" as "Lady Mondegreen"."Mondegreen" was included in the...
i absolutely love the person who linked this

I thought you'd like this comment
@Withad The "Special" of which you speak does not exist. It never existed. It was not real. It was the delusional mass dream that never happened. I do not have a copy on VHS in a cabinet. It is not part of Weird Al's White & Nerdy video. We shall never speak of it again. heads off to video cabinet to find tape to watch againBBlake yesterday

hehehe
"what is this Holiday Special you speak of"

Q: What is "Life Day" supposed to be a celebration of?

IxrecLast night some of us watched the Star Wars Holiday Special. We probably shouldn’t have done that, but now that we have, I was wondering what the Wookiee holiday of “Life Day” is all about. The special didn’t really tell us anything except that Chewbacca wants to get home in time to be with his f...

just the other day my friends brought up Game of Thrones in the discord and we all lamented how it tragically was canceled after season 7
such a shame

9:35 PM
what about the 8th season finale

it was canceled after season 7, bobble

"hey why don't we make the random guy king"

cries quietly

pat pat

we also lamented how they canceled that Eragon movie, what a cool movie that could have been

9:37 PM
how about the Percy Jackson movies

can you imagine if they just made some cheesy knockoff
i don't want to live in a dimension where Saphira has feathers, hoo boy
the Percy Jackson movies i actually mildly like, sue me

oh gods you don't want my "Toothless is TOOTHLESS" rant

okay yes but HTTYD was a wonderful trilogy of movies, even if they changed the source material

what do you mean they don't exist
I wasn't forced to write an essay on the first one

;-;

9:39 PM
They butchered the source material, you mean

an awkward gangly nerd who likes making animal friends spoke to me, okay

everything that made the source cool, they took out
then they shoved a bunch of unrelated ideas in
so yes, it might be good, but it's a complete lie to call it an adaptation

i guess, yeah. they could have just said it was unrelated to the books and made them their own thing.

There was a lot more nuance in the human-dragon societal relationships in the books

but if you mentally separate them from the books, they are really cool movies

9:41 PM
in the movies it's like "dragons are evil kill them all" or "dragons are wonderful save them all"

@bobble yeah, that bit of the movie was preachy

but in the books, there's complicated navigating of how the two very different species can coexist if their goals are different and there's only one world, because there's room to do that when you start off with something other than "dragons are evil kill them all"

yeah. i suppose if you're a book fan the movies are disappointing

An' Hiccup's love interest had was something other than a love interest, a lot, repeatedly, over many books
anyways this is bobble's "Toothless is TOOTHLESS" rant, thank you for listening

does this count as a ted talk?

9:46 PM
no, it did not have educational content

TREE FRIEND!!
:D

North! My compass was pointing somewhere...

Sorry, I've been kind of all over the place this week

we missed you <3
how has tree friend been?

Busy, busy
Essay writing, test studying, and also chess playing
I'll chat a bit later :P I'm gonna go for a walk to give my eyes a break

9:51 PM
Walks are important for Tree-Health

(*whispers* how do trees walk)

on their roots, of course!
trees walk when you're not looking

do they do that in our D&D world? O-O

...maybe :p

10:28 PM
@Sciborg I'm... not sure how important an internship is as a high schoolers for purposes other than college
Once you get into a college and do an internship, that's one thing
But ya know, I feel like putting high school achievements post-college seems odd

I said I would like to start early (take a summer session) and first reaction was "that'll help you get an internship because you'll have experience for the early-fall career fair"
whereas I wanted just to get used to the campus and dorming and such

sigh
he's very intent on this career fair, whatever it is

anyways, bobble is ranted out
how is tree friend's life going?

10:34 PM
Well, I'm working on that scholarship essay
And looking into signing up for summer classes
I'm trying to see if the local community college allows high school students to take summer classes

do they?

11:19 PM
Some do
Idk
Ugh, why are all these summer courses so expensive
