I hope the backlash from this riot breaks the power of the cult. The casualties are still bearable (not to their loved ones, of course), but it has to STOP!

NBC News: Pence to attend Biden inauguration.

I'm sure this doesn't enrage Trump at all

That's that, then.
@Jolenealaska Not sure the rioters are dissuaded; they probably consider it a successful operation.

@TimStone Fantastic

3:44 AM
So a black officer probably saved lives because insurrectionists were too busy being racist toward him to continue into the Senate chamber right away, and the FBI tactical response team wasn't called in by the people who should have called it but because one of McConnell's aides had the number of a Barr's Chief of Staff who had the number of the FBI Deputy Director

I think one of the US East ones has a literal moat

Apparently some visa data center does

4:19 AM
Oh, maybe I'm misremembering and that's what I'm thinking of

5:05 AM
Okay now we absolutely have to have impeachment, like even if you're a dumb unity centrist or whatever having Rudy and Dersh simultaneously tanking the President's defense is too much to pass up

5:23 AM

The Washington Post has a down to the minute report on what happened inside the Capitol washingtonpost.com/politics/inside-capitol-siege/2021/01/09/…
Literally pure happenstance the rioters didn’t actually reach any of the Senators
Mike Pence was evacuated at 2.11pm, the Senate was sealed at 2.15pm, and by 2.16pm the rioters have reached outside the Senate door

@tchrist If I was pence, I'd be fairly upset that Trump sent a violent mob to execute me. Not sure if he has any spine at all though.
@PrivatePansy Holy crap. We came even closer to complete disaster than I realized.

POLITICO: GOP prepares for battle with new archvillain.
https://www.politico.com/news/2021/01/10/gop-trump-twitter-ban-big-tech-456866
Alt title: GOP continues to prove they're morally bankrupt
> “I’ll be leading with it on a lot of my messaging, at least in my races, for the next few months,” said John Thomas, a Republican strategist who works on House campaigns across the country. “It shifts the news story — the narrative of the moment — and it refocuses it on a larger, more existential threat for the future of the country.”
"Like yeah white supremacy supported and encouraged by the GOP just tried to overthrow democracy, but that's bad for my re-election, so we gotta sweep that under the rug"
> “You’re basically cutting off 50 percent of the voice of the American people,” he said. “That’s huge.”
If 50% of the American people are Nazis than maybe that's a problem, I dunno
> “This is the battle of our time,” the talk show host Dave Rubin said on Fox. “There is a war on reality. We are in an information war.”

"We need to ensure Nazis have a place to plan violent riots! It's the most important thing /"
Like holy fuck. Wealth inequality is larger than ever, global warming is killing the planet, the issue of policy brutally against marginalized groups is more apparent than ever... And Republicans are concerned with ensuring Nazis have a platform.

@Wipqozn The true tally and terrible toll of tales this tragic always take longer to settle out than the merely physical dust of the siege and assault ever does.

Canada looking at declaring Proud Boys a terrorist organization in wake of U.S. rioting ctvnews.ca/politics/…
> Adding Proud Boys or other extremist organizations to the list would see them named alongside Al Qaida, Boko Haram, and the Taliban, among many others. It would also open up a range of criminal sanctions the organization could face.
> “What we witnessed this week, an assault on one of the most important democratic institutions in the world, not just in the United States, and clearly motivated by extremism and hatred… I think that meets all of the criteria for terrorism,” he said.
> In a statement, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole said his party supports the listing of “various white supremacist groups” as terrorist organizations.

> '“We will always support measures to keep Canadians safe from the threat of terror acts including from any group motivated by white supremacy,” O’Toole said.

did anyone really believe Parler had a line of hosts begging for their business?
like it's the kind of comment Trump would make

@Memor-X I don't think he's doing that any longer. Haven't heard hide nor herr of him in days.

@tchrist i was more thinking of past comments like how Trump would say everyone was calling him up or many people are thanking him
without Twitter Trump has been quiet
or maybe the media is filtering his insanity for us

11:52 PM
@Memor-X If there is no one to hear a scream fall into the abyss, did it make a sound?
