Hi, This regarding the gotra question and common ancestor
@TheLittleNaruto
1
Q: If sagotra mariages are prohibited, why did Krishna marry Satyabhama?

strugglingseekerKrishna and Satyabhama ( Sathyabhama ) shared a common paternal ancestor, Anamitra.

@nmdr In a meeting; will be back in few minutes
Apologies

@TheLittleNaruto no worries, will be here

Hello @nmdr

Hi @HinduKid

Hello @HareKrishna

6:48 AM
Hello @HinduKid Jay Shri Krishna 🙏

Hello @Archit

7:03 AM
@nmdr Yeah so I was saying you could look in smritis to find the answer.
Also you may need to look into srimad bhagwatam to find the relation between relatives of Shree Krishna and Satyabhama
Combining both sources, your answer can be concluded.

@TheLittleNaruto Yeah, do you have the reference to Manusmriti verse that references this 7 generations rule? I think the rule is much older, I remember reading it in relation to Rig Veda, cant find the source now
I will add your answer, and lookign Vrihsni family tree, its clear Krishna and Satyabhama did not have a common ancestor going back to 11 generations

@nmdr Check this for manu smriti reference: wisdomlib.org/hinduism/book/…

Also I saw this question which is interesting: hinduism.stackexchange.com/questions/43599/… do you know much abt this?
I dont know the answer, although i have read that hymn

@nmdr Interesting
now this needs to be investigated in terms of finding the rishi who added this hymn
once we know the name of rishi then we can check whether he was present post king bharata
this could be one of the way to gewt the answer
however this may not be correct conclusion since Vedas are cryptic in nature.

7:21 AM
@TheLittleNaruto I can get you the answer, please wait

I have the book thats referenced
Its Shaunaka
or Gritsamada

Let me check his birth details
> The epic Mahābhārata was narrated to Shaunaka by a story teller named Ugrasrava Sauti during a conclave of sages headed by Shaunaka in a forest named Naimisha.
This means king bharata was a past to him
so it is possible that he is referring to the people of akhanda bharata

yes should be, but the confusion as stated by the question its asking the sons of Bharatas to be seated

You can post this an answer I guess?
oh

7:29 AM
which is bit out of place, as it talks about Indra and Maruts in the previous verse
anyway, i guess its quite cyptic

like I said before :)

1. Being impelled for you, it has clothed itself in cows, in waters; the men have milked it with the stones through the sheep(’s wool).
At “Hail!,” o Indra, drink from the Hotar’s cup the soma poured out when the vaṣaṭ-cry is made—you who first have dominion over it.
2. Commingling with sacrifices, with your dappled (mares), with your spears, resplendent on your journey and in your ornaments, and dear,
having sat on the ritual grass, you sons of Bharata, drink soma from the Potar’s cup, you men of heaven [=Maruts].
3. As if to home, come to us here, all you of easy call; then sit on the ritual grass and take pleasure.
Then, o Tvaṣṭar, become exhilarated on the stalk, having delighted in the call, flocking with the divine ones, (namely) the Wives (of the Gods).
Thats the translation from another book I have on rig veda

@RamAbloh can help us here.

as you see the question is quite is right, in the sense it talks about gods, then suddenly talks about sons of Bharatas

He is not ping-able though :(

7:32 AM
ok..may be you can tag him on the question?

@nmdr right
@nmdr I can't.

ok

@RamAbloh Any input for this question: hinduism.stackexchange.com/q/43599/647 ?

hi Vikas :)

hello Nmdr :)

Thank you for the nice link; maybe seems to be addressing The Sons of Bharata with a second appellation of praise: the translator's rendering style is somewhat Homeric/ Classically poetic, so that might tend to be the translator's view when punctuating and including Ye & O, there appears to be a comma before O, which
would tend to indicate that also; the English Language adjustment from less usage of Thee Thy Thou and usage of spelling with Y, Thee/Ye, Thou/You etc and building to the usage of O prefacing the title/name also fits with the translators text: which still doesn't really firmly answer the question; Little Naruto Sensei method for indirectly considering & addressing plausibility of that meaning for the text is very excellent :)
🙏 :)
hi Swapnil Das San :)
@SwapnilDas

M H
12:49 PM
The translator may also be showing some style from the Middle English 'Le Morte Darthur' by Sir Thomas Mallory
:)
so the Sanskrit Text is very helpful :)

Q: Is there a scriptural source for wearing a single Rudraksha bead tied around the neck?

AN GKRudrakShajabala Upanishad Verse 18 त्रिशतं त्वधमं पञ्चशतं मध्यममुच्यते । सहस्रमुत्तमं प्रोक्तमेवं भेदेन धारयेत् ॥ The wearing of three hundred is said to be the lowest; of five hundred ordinary, and of one thousand the best. Knowing the difference one should wear it. Does that mean the wearing of...

@TheLittleNaruto I don't think I have much knowledge about Upnishad. I can listen and gain knowledge. And regarding what bought here, I don't have good story but just searched about English translation of Shiva Purana long ago, and then know about this site. After tried site on philosophy SE and after again think to join Hinduism site as just here. Jay Shri Krishna
@MH Jay Shri Krishna

@HareKrishna Whatever it is, you can answer the same. No issue :)
@MH It's 9th and 10th verses from Ishavsya Upanishad. You can google. Don't want to kill the excitement for the event. Sorry :)

3:28 PM
@MH The voice recording studio shifted from one place to another.

@TheLittleNaruto you know the verse of Valmiki - मा निषाद प्रतिष्ठां, Jagadguru Ramabhadracharya has given many (he says 108) different explanations of the same shloka. They all carry different meanings

4:01 PM
@MH :)

M H
:)
hi Pandya :)
@Pandya

Namaskar.
I remain busy and can't participate in chat event for past 2 weeks

M H

@Pandya
Vidya seems to have different nuances of meaning according to different places
hey Rht :)
@rht

@SwapnilDas Are you back?

rht
@Pandya @TheLittleNaruto @MH What is the meaning of Dhatar in rig veda?

@rht Which hymn?

rht
I think word dhatar comes in the creation section.

number please

rht
4:16 PM
last part of creation section I think

That is not much of help tbh. creation section is not small

rht
I tried to search on google but it says 'upholder' something
wait I will copy paste the verse

rht
HYMN CXC. Creation.
Dhātar, the great Creator, then formed in due order Sun and Moon.

@rht May I ask if this statement also follow modern science?

rht
I can't say but people do claim vedas have hidden meaning.

M H
4:23 PM
Heaven, Earth, Sun, Moon :)
@rht

@rht So formed Sun and Moon can mean something else also?

@rht Link please
@Vikas yes

M H
well, maybe could imply Planets etc

@TheLittleNaruto ok

rht
@TheLittleNaruto I copy pasted it from ebook I don't have link.

4:26 PM
@HinduKid Please come online and share the verse :)

But that way anyone can argue on every statement that it has hidden meaning.

M H
will look for one quick :)

@rht You need to tell which mandala is it as well
:)

M H
or sometimes additional implied meaning etc

M H
4:28 PM
maybe Rig Veda 10.190.3 , but could be a dubious source..
(showing up in a modified ggl search from this region)

@rht it's dhata which means vidhata or parmatma
> सूर्याचन्द्रमसौ धाता यथापूर्वमकल्पयत् । दिवं च पृथिवीं चान्तरिक्षमथो स्वः॥३॥

धाता (विधाता-परमात्मा) ने सूर्य एवं चन्द्रमा को, आकाश एवं पृथ्वी को, अन्तरिक्ष एवं स्वः (स्वर्गलोक अथवा आत्मतत्व) को पहले की ही तरह विनिर्मित किया ॥३॥

3. Dhatar, the great Creator, then formed in due order Sun and Moon. He formed in order Heaven and Earth, the regions of the air, and light.

M H
thank You Little Naruto San :)
@TheLittleNaruto

@MH no problem :-)

rht
Thanks for sharing, can you provide link

@rht copied it from an Android app

rht
4:31 PM
@TheLittleNaruto

M H
would you like the Ishavasya Verses 9 & 10 listed here now Little Naruto Sensei?
@TheLittleNaruto

rht
which app

M H
hi Pandya :)

M H
Ishavasya Upanishad Verse 9 from Wisdomlib. org :
अन्धन्तमः प्रविशन्ति येऽविद्यामुपासते ।
ततो भूय इव ते तमोय उ विद्यायां रताः ॥ ९ ॥

andhantamaḥ praviśanti ye'vidyāmupāsate |
tato bhūya iva te tamoya u vidyāyāṃ ratāḥ || 9 ||

9. They who worship Avidya alone fall into blind darkness; and they who worship Vidya alone fall into even greater darkness.

4:36 PM
Thank you
So let's start the event with verse 9 as shared above.
"They who worship Avidya alone fall into blind darkness;"

M H
Ishavasya Upanishad Verse 10 from wisdom lib .org is also prepared for post :)

Here avidya means ignorance

M H
yes
hey Twinkle :)

Hii @everyone

being ignorant of parmatma and being inclined to materialistic world

rht
4:38 PM
@TheLittleNaruto Thanks 🙏

being after greed money lust luxury is also termed as avidya
So upanishad teaches us that whoever is after this avidya falls into blind darkness and stays there forever
And then it says, "they who worship Vidya alone fall into even greater darkness"

M H
yes...

rht
Haha😀
Irony

As per my understanding(which may be wrong), here vidya is referred as the rituals we perform with expectation of fruits. such rituals will take the worshipper into even greater darkness

M H
could that be a sort of specialised sense of 'vidya' ?

4:44 PM
which basically can be interpreted as that a desire-less karma is required to approach parmatma

M H
yes, something more like that, cf True Reality

Alright
Do you guys want to add your own understanding here?
Or is the verse clear to all of you? :) @MH @rht @Twinkle @Vikas

@TheLittleNaruto It's all too difficult for me. Even the topic.

M H
Little Naruto Sensei example is a good illustration :)
does Verse 10 seem to assist with understsanding it and how its meant?
Ishavasya Upanishad Verse 10 from Wisdomlib .com :

rht
@TheLittleNaruto I didn't read this upanishad, So I can't say without doing complete reading.

4:51 PM
@Vikas @rht ok no problem let it take time. :)

M H
:)

@MH yeah infact 10, 11 and 12 are supporting verses.

rht
😊😊

But we will discuss only verse 10 today

rht
I like 11 verse

M H
4:52 PM
अन्यदेवाहुर्विद्ययाऽन्यदाहुरविद्यया ।
इति शुश्रुम धीराणां ये नस्तद्विचचक्षिरे ॥ १० ॥

anyadevāhurvidyayā'nyadāhuravidyayā |
iti śuśruma dhīrāṇāṃ ye nastadvicacakṣire || 10 ||

10. One result is predicated of Vidya and another of Avidya. We have so heard from wise men who taught us both Vidya and Avidya.

So like I was saying by vidya it means the rituals we perform.

Everyone knows sanskrit here?

For example there is certain yajna to bring rains right
Also one who pursuit avidya that is materialistic world, their results is also well known
So all these are told by our ancestors and that's how we know about them.

M H
yes :)

verse 10 is pretty much simple and clear
We will see next verses in next week
Thank y'all for your participations.

rht
4:59 PM
Thanks for your effort. ☺

M H
thank you for very clear explanation Little Naruto Sensei :)
@TheLittleNaruto

M H
V 10: ~taught us about both ..

rht
verse 11 is also good.

5:01 PM
@rht yeah and so is 12. we will discuss them on next Thursday event.

M H
