maybe those could be interesting for some fans (mostly the pre G4 ones, I just know Friendship is Magic) but .... they are lazily made at best.

10:07 AM
@Derpy Two out of three once again have the 'image looking way better than the model' syndrome. One out of three looks like wearing a . . . sleeping mask?

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica in this case, it is not the same problem you had with the Kotobukiya figures. In that case, the figure looks like the image. The clothes are there, the details are there. One could say that the picture is better, but sure the figures are sculpted to match the figure.
Here, there is no custom made sculpting.
They use the same body mold.
And the clothes are just paint-work
the D&D ones are still quite lazy, but acceptable as a toy (less as a collector item, which they are advertised as)
The others are just "plain"
the painted robot parts on the My Little Prime probably being the worst offenders.
they didn't even mold the helmet.

@Derpy I actually like the Prime the most among the figures.
Also image-wise, both Prima and Plasmane remind me of 50/50 from BraveStarr.
But still, promotion images look better than the figures one way or another.

@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica didn't say it is the worst, said it is lazy
I mean.... see this custom:
Now, try to imagine the actual figure having this level of care and detail.
Would probably sell even to not-ponies fans as a collector items.

10:39 AM
@Derpy Overengineered, top heavy, but lovingly-made elements. Reminds me of a toy robo-mammoth I had decades ago.

10:49 AM
@vicky_molokh-unsilenceMonica oh, just meaning that this one has actual armor and such, not just painted clothes
but obviously, this would mean making a custom mold. Something that Hasbro tries to avoid too often.
I said this before

This is an official minifigure
Should be Fluttershy
Does it look like her? Not at all, they reused the same mold they used for every other pegasi.

@Derpy Oh well. Understandable given that the goal seems to be cheap mass-production. Though I'm puzzled why people keep picking such products for collections.

Well... I give up on that racial slurs question...
I want to, but should I leave a comment asking that "it didn't occur to me that people might consider a term not commonly used outside children's games and Hollywood scripts since before most or all users were born could still be hurtful and insulting." be removed from the question?

I voted to close as a dupe of the last one.

GcL
@Medix2 What term? I'm trying to draw a venn diagram of children's games and hollywood movies that intersect on a racial slur. Snakes and ladders? Jumanji?

@GcL Presumably the term from the previous question, a racial slur against First Peoples / Indigenous Peoples / Native Americans / Indians / Tribes... Groups of people certainly disagree which term(s) should be used, but I don't know anybody that wants to use the term that was used

GcL
Barbarian?

They mention the term here. I simply do not wish to repeat it.

GcL
5:40 PM
Oh. On meta. Can't help with that one.

@GcL You aint got any of them free downvotes? :P

GcL
Only for the main site.

@ThomasMarkov I don't believe it's a duplicate as Goblins don't exist and the "term", as far as I'm aware, isn't "racially charged", and no living group is affected by the "term". It's just the type of question I don't even want to respond to as I can't see my response doing any good, though... Perhaps it would do good for those who aren't the OP
Ah, leave it to the Puzzly Cervid

6:40 PM
I am pretty much out of benefit of the doubt on that meta question.
and the two downvotes on @ThomasMarkov's answer on the first question concern the heck outta me

GcL
7:27 PM
@NautArch What do you need me to downvote?

@GcL humans

GcL
Always. Even over the objections of dogs.

7:45 PM
@NautArch but humanity.... (just kidding I agree with this)

8:11 PM
@ZeissIkon You seem to be super misunderstanding the issues of orcs in games. The terms “orc” and “goblin” aren't a racial slur for anything, but that isn't the issue. The issue is with the nature and portrayal of orcs in fantasy narratives, in how they embody real-world prejudices against real-world people, and in how we're made to interact with them, as explained well by NK Jemisin in The Unbearable Baggage of Orcing. That's a serious issue worth discussing, but it's something separate from racial slurs. — doppelgreener 5 mins ago

@doppelgreener You are a very kind person, Doppel.
or at least, currently kinder than me about this situation.

we all have our capacities and this evening i found the opportunity to at least talk to them a bit about this

maybe that talk gave you more insight, because from my perspective...'tis not good.

there are other times i'm not going to have capacity to say much that's appropriate to say

that's about where I am :)

8:15 PM
@NautArch yeah i ... don't think what they're doing is reasonable. either they super misunderstand, or they are just behaving super inappropriately, and i wrote that comment for either case.
in the former case, maybe they'll understand why orcs have nothing to do with the word they were using. in the latter case, i wanted to lay down that us using 'orcs' and 'goblins' is not permission to use slurs.

As much as I appreciate folks giving them the benefit and hoping it's the prior, it sure seems like it's the latter.
BUt alas, we(I) should probably stop, because i'm about to cross over into Not Nice.
and that has no place here

and the orcs and goblins are an issue. it's not great to have fantasy races that embody real-world prejudiced views of african or native american tribes, including the part where the only good orc is a dead orc—that's messed up! but the use of their name is completely beside the point!

@MikeQ I'm not sure I agree with your comment on the latest (problematic) meta Q: I'm reading the question not so much to say "we shouldn't be racist to real people, so why should we be pretend-racist to pretend-people?" (drawing a false equivalence) as it is saying "wotc pointed out that the way fantasy games handle races can cause real-world harms, so shouldn't we stop using the terms orc and goblin?"
I'm not saying it's a good argument, or even that I think the user's 100% acting in good faith, but I think their positing something a little different than what I read you pushing back agai

@nitsua60 Should I remove the 1st or 2nd comment? Or both?

@MikeQ I think Doppel handles it really well.

even if we called them sweetie-boos or gromblesnatches, that wouldn't resolve anything, because the problem isn't the name.

Probably don't need those with hers there.
@doppelgreener don't get me started on gromblesnatches

@MikeQ Oh, sorry--it's the second of yours I was seeing.

8:30 PM
but, yeah, the question does seem to suggest the problem is the name and they're equivalent issues therefore ha-haaa you have to let me use the words i was using, check and mate
just, that's, not the issue

Ok, deleted both. The 1st comment was referring to something that's since been edited out from the question.

GcL
@doppelgreener Not this again. Can we postpone bringing this up again until 2022 or something?

Sometimes issues just come up. We are probably veering towards NAB territory though

GcL
@Rubiksmoose Not even there... maybe 2021 for NaB

... can we not respond to issues like this with "not this again"?

GcL

@doppelgreener That's what came to mind as my heart rate and blood pressure increased. It's like watching a big dark cloud roll in and realizing the umbrella is far away. Here comes a conversation to rain on my otherwise good day.

@GcL that sure justifies behaving like this, yeah
i'll leave y'all be for a while

@doppelgreener My aim was to head off a wading into an upsetting topic.

@GcL I think that is fair to do to a point, and it might be better to be more direct in your desires in the future. Stuff like this can and will be moved to NAB upon request, but we try not to tell people what they can and cannot talk about. Best thing to do is if you are personally uncomforable with something, say that.
@doppelgreener You said what I didn't say, much better than I would have said it. I decided to KIS(S) and not challenge that assumption that was made. I'm still going back and forth on whether to address it directly. (and I'm open to suggestions on the matter)

Yes indeed.

@Rubiksmoose If it helps toward "knowing your audience", Zeiss is 61 years old.

@ThomasMarkov not an excuse

well duhh

@ThomasMarkov I didn't know the exact number, but I was indeed considering around that age. On the other hand, it didn't really affect my answer in this case.
But I do appreciate the information.

8:52 PM
I know I would be responding differently if I was talking to a kid vs. someone my dad's age, so I figured it might be useful info.

@ThomasMarkov Can I ask where that information is from?

Was curious as well. I assume this is public, maybe a comment somewhere?

Zeiss IkonFrom a world view standpoint, I'd like to suggest that yes, yours was a little provincial. I was an adult in the 1990s (born in 1959). I got my first home computer in 1986, first DOS machine in 1987, installed Windows 3 (on that same machine) in 1990. I was a member of a computer users' group (...

Ah yes, that would do it.

I recall a lab meeting where the oldest colleague in the room immediately picked up on the benefits and uses of a relational database backed inventory while the youngest in the room were insisting the already problematic Excel inventory was fine.
It was an informative missed expectation.

8:54 PM
Ahhhh Excel-based inventory. That brings up some bad memories.

This was back in the day when the row limit was like 60k or something woefully inadequate for the task... also, the wrong tool for the task.

No part of what you said was okay.
I can't even.
I'm going again to get some sleep before this keeps me up.

sleep well :(

@doppelgreener I think that interpretation might depend on the tone in which the text was read.
@doppelgreener These are the two channels I follow here. Moving an upsetting thing from one channel to the other does not make it less upsetting.

@doppelgreener @GcL I'm going to ask everyone to table this for a bit. Folks are upset and I don't think we're going to resolve anything in the heat of the moment.
I'm also going to remove the line calling someone a name, it's not necessary and doesn't help the conversation.

I'm sorry if that's upsetting.
