@hanugm are there any particular requirements for that?
I mean what kind of specifications are useful for what you want to do?
The market here seems really quite bad these days. No good deals

glad to be here, few months ago I've installed and upgrade my ubuntu to desktop and then I started to create a apache2 to host our own company website, everything is good but when I've added devmin for my control, I am starting to get some issues.

4:35 AM
@Zanna Yeah true. So much cost.

One requirement is GPU. I need to do computer vision tasks.

5:11 AM
@hanugm so you need a nice graphics card that actually works with Ubuntu?

Q: Ubuntu 20.04.01 not booting after kernel update

beeefI just updated my PC that is running the latest version of Ubuntu (20.04.01). I made a system update and that update included also a kernel update (from kernel 5.4.0-42-generic to 5.4.0-45-generic). My PC rebooted after the update and I got stuck at a screen telling me some errors, and that the d...

2:11 PM
@technastic_tc that does not tell if that package is installed. Try apt policy
@vladzouth is there not a "do not disturb" button?

@jokerdino I'm a noob in Ubuntu. Which command should I exactly type? Should I type apt policy?

@technastic_tc apt policy gir1.2-gtksource-3.0
actually, try installing it: sudo apt install gir1.2-gtksource-3.0

```
gir1.2-gtksource-3.0:
Installed: (none)
Candidate: 3.24.11-2
Version table:
3.24.11-2 500
500 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/universe amd64 Packages
```

yeah, not installed

I installed it and it's still the same.
But I found one new detail. I'll edit my question and add the detail.

2:23 PM
can you open gedit from terminal and see if you get any specific error message?

@jokerdino How do I open from terminal? Should I type gedit in terminal?

yes please

No error message.

@technastic_tc any warnings or anything when trying to enable the plugin?

2:50 PM
@jokerdino Please refer the screenshot above

@technastic_tc install python3-gi and try again?

Is this the command to install: sudo apt install python3-gi?
rls@rls-Default-string:~$ sudo apt install python3-gi

python3-gi is already the newest version (3.36.0-1).

Q: cifs vfs error connecting to socket. aborting operation 101 ubuntu

TakMy ubuntu machine suddenly stared beeping quite loudly then I tried rebooting it and powering it off for a while, but the beeping continues, and it gets stuck at 'Welcome to emergency mode'. And advice what caused it and how to fix it?

@technastic_tc have you done anything to affect your python configuration? Why would python3 be not found?
@technastic_tc I recommend adding this screenshot to your question

@Zanna I'm editing my question now

:)

@Zanna I tried upgrading Python some time ago.. maybe I messed up something :/

I expect that would be the issue...

3:16 PM
@technastic_tc how's that?

do you remember exactly what you did? Or do you have a record of it, in your .bash_history or /var/log/apt/history.log or /var/log/apt/term.log or anything?
(old logs would be there too - they get compressed but you can zgrep or unpack them, if needed... but perhaps you did not use APT for any of the things you did)
sorry I'm just going to do some housework...

@Zanna It's ok. I'll check how I updated and get back
in the end of the article they gave two suggestions. One, to replace (or overwrite) already installed version 3.8.2 of Python; two, to install Python v3.8.3 alongside the Python v3.8.2.
I did the first option

dpaste.com/CXUCDQ7YT whenever trying to start up a vagrant server for a python app i am receiving this any idea as to what I should do to sort it out? I have tried turning off the hypervisor in my system but that turned to be a bad idea as many problems came up... any assistance would be great

@technastic_tc aha! I think this is the right track... hopefully someone can figure out how to fix it... back later

3:32 PM
@Zanna :)

What does file /usr/bin/python3 say?
why did you want to upgrade python? Did you need a new feature or something?

/usr/bin/python3: symbolic link to python3.8

well, that's as it should be

@Zanna I was gonna learn Python programming. So I thought of upgrading python.

so still unknown why gedit doesn't find it
hmm so I expect going back to 3.8.2 wouldn't be a problem for you, if that turned out to be the solution?

3:43 PM
@Zanna Yeah. I would not mind going back to 3.8.2.

@technastic_tc A bit off-topic, but maybe helpful in general. As I have found out from personal experience and also from many questions here, it's not a good idea to mess with the default Python. If you need a Python version other than the one that comes preinstalled with the OS, the best option you have, in my opinion, is install Anaconda and create a virtual environment with the desired version.
Also, do you have a specific reason for working with gedit? You could try another editor, like VS Code, Atom, not vim, etc.

why not vim?

@jokerdino Mainly it was meant as a subtle joke
But since @technastic_tc is a new user still learning the OS, perhaps learning vim could be hard for them for the time being

@user3140225 this

@user3140225 Thanks for the suggestion
@user3140225 I am not using gedit for learning Python. I am using Python IDLE.
I was casually looking into settings of gedit and I found the option of External Tools. I tried enabling it and then I noticed the error

3:54 PM
@user3140225 noted thanks

@technastic_tc I see. IDLE is good, but pretty basic. I use Jupyter Lab in conjunction with VS Code, the first for testing code (the interactivity it offers is awesome) and the second for finalizing it. Perhaps you should give it a try.
If you ever decide to install Anaconda and need any help, don't hesitate to ping me.
