@Seamus "perhaps that answer could be moved?" I can't move answers (and I've never heard of it being done). Being able to merge duplicate questions might be a good thing -- wonder if that's been tried in Meta? There are some obvious hurdles though, as I think it could not be fully automated meaning some person would sometimes have to make decisions that upset others etc. Really SE could use more than cosmetic overhauls to bring back some of the dynamism, or something.
Anyway: WRT "closed questions", particularly duplicates, remember they aren't deleted (some of them are after a while if they don't have any accepted or positive score answers). They are still there to be read, can be found via searches, linked, etc.
Of course, new users may just see "closed" and flip the page, but this is symptomatic of the interface learning curve -- sometimes you have to sacrifice simplicity for functionality, ie., complexify (the good kind).
I like duplicate chains, which I am responsible for creating lots of here. The idea is rather than close every question which is a duplicate of X by linking it directly to X, you close it as a duplicate of another question which has already been closed as duplicate of X. This means the person who's question was just closed doesn't see just one, they see a chain of different ones. You can find these in reverse by looking at the "Linked" sidebar.

@goldilocks: Duplicate chains sounds good. The duplicate classification doesn't happen here nearly as much as in other SE sites. The AppleSE has some dupe classifications that really stretch the imagination IMO.
