Q: Who discovered the formula for the volume of the pyramid?

Joe JobsWho or when it was discovered the formula for the volume of a pyramid? $${\text{Height} \times \text{Base Area}\over 3}$$ And what does the proof looks like? (It must be something without calculus I guess).

Q: Accepting your own answer

Bhaskar VashishthWhy does MSE allows accepting your own answers on your question? As I cannot upvote my own post, I think accepting your own answer should also be prohibited or there should be an option that if 5 or more people rate it as acceptable then and only then it should become acceptable

Q: Math numbers rendered as FaceTime phone number

MichaelIn a recent answer of mine, I noticed that a chain of equations renders correctly on my laptop but incorrectly on iPad and iPhone. The iPad/iPhone treats a particular number as if it is a phone number. It then inserts a FaceTime link which messes up the LaTeX/MathJax rendering, making the answer ...

I wanted to add a tag-info for .
I have added something, but not exactly I what i wanted.
Now I am getting error when I am trying to edit it further.
Can somebody check whether it is editable by other users and only I am getting this error?
I was trying to insert this text:
> For questions about the usability of Stack Exchange sites and features on iOS devices.
And I used this as the edit summary:
> Basic tag-info copied from meta.stackexchange.com/tags/ios/info
I hope that this will be sorted eventually. Still, I was thinking that in addition to the above text (copied from Meta Stack Exchange), it might be useful to mention also that there are separate tags and .
Here is a link to the tag-info and the revision history.
However, it seems that the answers and comments there say that this is because the suggested edit queue was full. This does not seem to be the case now, moreover this wasn't a suggested edit, since I have sufficient privileges to edit tag-wikis.
Ok, so now I was able to edit it without getting the same error.
I have edited tag excerpt:
> For questions about the usability of Stack Exchange sites and features on iOS devices. There are also tags (mobile-web) and (ios-app).
And also the tag-wiki:
> For questions about the usability of Stack Exchange sites and features on iOS devices. Notice there are also separate tags and - so they should be used too for questions where they are suitable.
Of course, if you have some suggestion how to improve the tag-info, please, go ahead and edit it.
@Glorfindel Since you are the creator of this tag, I wanted to mention that I have created a basic tag-info and ask you whether something should be added (or changed/removed).
You cannot be pinged in this room using @username, so I have invited you into this room - as far as I know, that should give you some king of notification.
I also wanted to thank you for your work on Mathematics Meta.

@MartinSleziak you're welcome.
@MartinSleziak no, it's fine this way :)

Thanks for having a look!
BTW I am not really sure what to think about the error message I was getting.

Me neither. Sometimes it helps having your browser console open.
But if it says 'Internal Server Error' you're still none the wiser.

Maybe it is possible that it was rate limiting (since I was trying to edit relatively soon after the first edit). But in that case I would expect error message saying something like "you're only allowed to do this once in 60 seconds you should wait". (Rather than just: "An error occurred submitting the post."

Yeah, there's a dedicated error message for that.

I do not have much experience with stuff like that. In Chrome I get to console through Ctrl+Shirt+I, right?
@Glorfindel Do you mean opening the console after I get error message but while it is still displayed? Or opening it after I get error message and check what I can see there?

9:17 AM
@MartinSleziak not sure - I'm on a Mac.
when I say 'console' I meant the developer tools in general

Let me try this with two edits after each other - to see what I get there with the rate limiting error message.

Sometimes you'll see something in the console, but there's also a 'Network' tab in the developer tools.

Hm... I did not get any error message.

no, that's the problem with non-reproducible bugs :)

And the revision only shows the final result - similarly as for edits on posts within grace period. math.meta.stackexchange.com/posts/4507/revisions
Ok, I was probably too slow.
Now I finally got: "You can perform this action again in 10 seconds"

9:21 AM
If you have 20k, the rate limit is 10 seconds; for me, it's 30.

But I am not really sure what part of the developer tools would give me some useful information about this error message. (Or about the original one, if I manage to reproduce it again.)
I should try to play around with tag wikis when I have a bit more time. Maybe this bug manifest only if a new tag-wiki is being created as in this case. (Not when editing the existing ones.)

In the Network tab (if you opened the developer tools before the error occurs) you can see which call to the server gives an error.
It will have a status code indicating an error (4xx / 5xx) but sometimes there is more information.
One case where that is helpful is detecting the line where your SEDE query fails: meta.stackexchange.com/a/281623/295232

Interestingly, with the "10 seconds" error, the status codes that I see are only 101, 200 and 204.
I am not sure to which extent the stuff is visible from the screenshot. (The first part is missing, but I have clicked on the Status column to order it by Status.)
Anyway, it is more important whether we would see there in the case of the problematic error message mentioned above. (The rate-limiting message is expected.)

@MartinSleziak yeah, it's the request whose 'Name' is '105' (second from the bottom).
If you open it, I guess you see the response contains the rate limit message.

Ok, I managed to get the same error on another tag-wiki.
And there is something with status 500 .

9:38 AM
If you click on it, somewhere you should see details about this request.

Request URL: math.meta.stackexchange.com/edit-tag-wiki/submit/389
Request Method: POST
Status Code: 500

Including a response tab.

I have the response tab but I am not really sure what I am looking for.
I can share it with you through pastebin or something like that if you're willing to have a look.

yes please

Or I could share the Window with you using Google Meet if it's better.

9:42 AM
pastebin is fine
If that doesn't contain the information I'm looking for, there's no way for us to provide more details in the bug report.

Or maybe there is some other option.
This is what I copy-pasted from the reponse tab: pastebin.com/uAhhZYhQ
But even if there's nothing in the developers tools, I think I have found out how to reproduce this. (Although I might soon run out of empty tag-wikis where to test this.)

@MartinSleziak if you save that as HTML, you can see it's the generic 500 Error page. So no luck :(
@MartinSleziak well, that's good news :)

I see. That's the same thing which I get in the Preview tab, right?

yes

Is there something else I should be looking for in the developer tools?

9:46 AM
that's easier :)

I see this in Headers, not sure whether it is relevant:
> Referrer policy: no-referrer-when-downgrade

I'd have to look up what that means exactly, but I don't think it's relevant.

Ok.
If I plan to make a bug report, I should probably make some screenshots also from developer tools.

If you indicate which request fails (in this case, the POST request to https://math.meta.stackexchange.com/edit-tag-wiki/submit/389), that it returns a 500 status code and the generic error page, that's enough information.
(well, it might be good to note that you did use the developer tools but found no further information)

Ok, so I will not bother with copying other information that I see there.
Just in case, I'll leave that window open for a bit - in case somebody has some suggestion what to look for.
Thanks for your help.
I'll try to write down a bug report.

9:52 AM
@MartinSleziak sure, there are people with more knowledge about these things than me.

Q: Problem with editing an empty tag-info

MartinWhen creating a new tag-wiki, I have encountered a somewhat unusual error message saying: "An error occurred submitting the post." I have seen some older posts with similar error messages: Tag-wiki edit submit gets error, clearer reasons requested, Wiki-tag edit error is non-descriptive (and the ...

On math.meta we have tag "user-names" on the main meta it is "display-names"? Change, synonym, leave? Any opinions?
I think "display name" is the more commonly used term on SE but user name might be more intutive

Embarrassingly short tag-excerpt: math.meta.stackexchange.com/posts/8524/revisions
Just checking who is to blame. :-)

Better short than empty.

I have checked filters to see where else user-names and display-names are used.
So I see on our meta and on Information Security.

For the former mostly our meta end security main
Indeed.

Maybe I might have missed some sites. (There must be a way to find this using SEDE, but this is above my skills. I don't have experience with multisite queries.)
I would say that synonym might be useful. And I do not think that it matters that much in which direction.

12:44 PM
I tend to make display names the main tag and keep user names as a synonym.

I don't think it would be good to completely remove (user-names), since some of our users might be already use to it.

I agree with that.

There is some advantage to consistency with Meta Stack Exchange. If our users go there or if some user come from there to here, it is easier for them to use the correct tags.
And sometimes people search over all sites, consistent tags might be useful also in such cases: stackexchange.com/search?q=%5Buser-names%5D stackexchange.com/search?q=%5Bdisplay-names%5D
I have mentioned all things which could influence the decision about this and which I was able to think of.
@quid Yes, that seems like a reasonable thing to do.

Yes. There might also be some distinction to be made. The display name is the one that is displayed. There could be a user name for login purposes, but that always seems to be an email on SE.

12:49 PM
I'll wait if ever somebody wants to weigh in and then just do this. The synonyms for meta-tags are pretty niche as a subject.

Seeing the I guess they had many questions about old usernames, but than decided to put them under the same tag and created a synonym.
I have pinned the first message you posted about this issue. Perhaps it slightly increases the likelihood that somebody notices it.

I would also suggest keeping [display-names] as the master tag and [user-names] as its synonym.

Q: Show that if the induced homomorphism $f_*:\pi_1(T\#T,x_0) \to \pi_1(T\#T,f(x_0))$ is 1-1 then it is onto.

Ri-LiLet $T$ be a torus and suppose $f: T\#T \to T\#T$ is a continuous map. Show that if the induced homomorphism $f_*:\pi_1(T\#T,x_0) \to \pi_1(T\#T,f(x_0))$ is 1-1 then it is onto. I know that $ \pi_1(T\#T,x_0)=\Bbb Z^2 \star \Bbb Z^2$. Initially, I was thinking that any 1-1 homomorphism would be on...

Q: Identify the following surface as a connected sum of either or projective planes with holes

Ri-LiThe picture looks like a connected sum of 4 tori with two holes. Am I correct or is there any other algorithm that I don't know. P.S: I am sorry for giving a picture like this but I got this question in an old question paper and didn't get a better way to represent it.

I have created the tag-info for simply as a test to see whether I will be able to reproduce the bug mentioned above. Originally, I just copy-pasted it from Meta Stack Exchange, but then I made a few small edits. math.meta.stackexchange.com/posts/31974/revisions math.meta.stackexchange.com/posts/31973/revisions
I should have probably wait a bit before making changes - the edits are in the same revision (grace period). I should have edited the tag-wiki in such way, that it would be distinguishable what was copy-pasted and what was changed.
