Q: Is this function reliable for providing error resiliance?

user224696The idea is to check if the directory exists and if not, handle it not being found. In most cases, what I would pass in for NotFound would be to check the supposed parent directory. Should this add error resilience to programs? void CheckDir(char *DirPath, void(*NotFound)(void)) { DIR *DirPt...

Please check the formatting of your question. Also, there are a few things off that don't directly cause bugs, so once you have it running, file it for review at codereview.stackexchange.com. That said, you failed to reduce your code to a minimal reproducible example, which would quickly have shown you the problem. As a new user here, also take the tour and read How to Ask. — Ulrich Eckhardt 7 secs ago
Welcome, please take the tour and read How to Ask. Use tag fortran for all Fortran questions. Note that there is a dedicated site codereview.stackexchange.com Your question may even be off-topic here. However there are many things I would suggest to change if I were doing a real review. Like better indentation. Note that ffewer lines does not always mean faster or even more readable, it always depends on the content of those lines. — Vladimir F 51 secs ago

Do you try to post a question and your own answer, in order to provide a solution for others with a similiar problem? In that case I suggest you about read Answering your own Question, add details to the problem description, and wait for others to provide an alternative solution before posting your own. If you want your solution to be improved, check codereview.stackexchange.comking_nak 45 secs ago
Once you have your own attempt, optimized and using good habits and principles (like semantic names for variables, comments about code and what it does and why it does it like that) and you still can't get it to be quite efficient enough, then submit it for a code review to get help about your program. And doing it yourself will teach you more than just blindly copy some code (bad or not). — Some programmer dude 6 secs ago

Bearing in mind this may sound too anxious and some users may not have seen it yet or had a chance to respond, could we wrap up the discussion on this meta post soon or do we need to keep it open for more days/weeks?

@SᴀᴍOnᴇᴌᴀ Whilst I don't think many more votes will come in, if I were a mod I wouldn't action it until 14 days after being posted.
However I'm not a mod, @Vogel612 ^

@Peilonrayz yeah I was expecting a response like that - sounds like an appropriate amount of time

I was actually thinking of featuring the question soon

How come? (I'm not in disagreement)

trying to get more "new user" eyes on it

Does it not show up on the side for new users and featured would? When I test on Chrome I never see it, so IDK

which new user knows to go to meta to find that question
featuring would put it into the sidebar as "Featured questions on meta", which hopefully will garner some eyeballs

8:54 PM
I mean the "Hot Meta Posts" which it is in right now

'cuz 72 views is ... basically nothing

^^
(that was meant for Pellonrays's msg)

apparently hot on meta doesn't pull in people :/
I want at least 200 views before pushing for action on that
other mods might want different things tho
anyway, BBIAW

In addition, elegant and faster often directly contradict. For elegance, codereview.stackexchange.com would be a better place. As for performance, chances are very good that it won't be the bottleneck for a Cordova based web scraper, and this is a case of preoptimization. — user120242 11 secs ago

Agreed. Looks like a candidate for Code Review, but before you try that see what happens if you pass the vector by reference rather than by value to reduce the amount of unnecessary copying. — user4581301 57 secs ago

@rusiruthushara CodeReview is another website similar to Stack Overflow, you can visit it here. If your code is working and needs improvement, I would suggest you to delete the question from here and ask it there, since CodeReview is better suited for this kind of question. — Marco Bonelli 55 secs ago

Q: Perl - Splitting a string

LinnyI've decided to work on my Perl skills. I've written a small subroutine that splits a string based on an optional delimiter. I'd like any feedback on this program so I can kick bad habits to the curb. Written in Perl 5. sub split_string { my $string = @_[0]; my $delimiter = @_[1] ? @_[1]...

I think Wyck's point here is that they are fundamentally different and their appropriateness depends on context. There isn't a "paradigm" where one is better than the other, and even if there were one it would be opinion. For example, if you were using modules and imports, polluting global namespace wouldn't be an issue here. Also, I think you'd have better luck with this in codereview.stackexchange.com where code quality questions live. — user120242 41 secs ago
