@XanderHenderson It is open again now. What I do in those cases is to flag the moderators, telling them something like “I think the the OP should be told that it is not a correct behaviour to delete a question after having got an answer.” I did that yesterday with this question and it worked.

Here is what a mod said on self-deleting question after receiving an answer (although the post is quite old): Why do some users delete their questions after receiving an answer?. Shamelessly, I will mention also my own post: Is there need to patrol for deleted questions?

A: Maximal regular octahedron inside regular hexahedron.

achille huiThe answer is $\frac34\sqrt{2}$. To derive this answer, we will use following result: A polyhedron $P$ is centrally symmetric if it is invariant under point reflection with respect to some point $c_P$ (i.e. $p \in P \implies 2c_P - p \in P$). We call such a point $P$'s center. In genera...

This one is not going to be in your deletion list anymore. No more.

@Jack Your edits don't provide any useful context---why shouldn't that question be deleted?

@Jack: Do you support cheaters? Yes or no?

user12692
@user21820 Do not delete this message. I will come back to you.

@Jack What nonsense are you talking about? Why should I delete my question to you?
And why do you need to "come back to me"? You cannot give an answer?

@user21820 NOT ONLY in bold, you could make them all CAPITALIZED so that you can make them LOUD and CLEAR. I don't have time to talk to you right now. I will be back.

@Jack ??? You are the one using capitals, and talking more than twenty words when I just asked for a 1-word answer.
And sure, you can reply later. Don't have to say you will reply later. Nor say that you don't have time to talk now but complain that I used a little bold formatting. I look forward to your direct answer.

@Jack Btw, that answer you mentioned ("the proof is valid") actually got a pity upvote due to the visibility. There is little hope of using voting to discourage low quality answers when this frequently occurs (since one pity upvote cancels 5 downvotes rep-wise) One should keep that in mind before casting pity votes (see various meta posts for elaboration).
D1 that answer is now up for deletion.

For the record, instead of seeking comrpomise, it appears gimusi is upping the ante. His latest list of self-targeted undeletions now has 8 entries. Will he post all of his deleted posts? This may be the beginning of the battle I predicted on meta due to failure to reach a good compromise. While mods might step in due to the self-targeting, this won't help in a general battle. A better compromise is needed. Wars are bad.

@user21820 Your question is a PSQ, isn't it? What is your definition of "cheaters"?

@Jack Cheater: one who attempts to cheat. This is not Math SE and I'm not posting a question there. I simply ask you a question, and you know my meaning. Why evade my question?

user12692
@user21820 You ask a question, and I do not think it is clear, hence my question. One dose not, would not, should not answer a question that he consider unclear. I do not follow why you call it "evading". (cont.)

user12692
(cont.) the link you gave has too many explanations. I believe this one is simpler. (cont.)

1: one who cheats: such as a: one who violates rules dishonestly b: one who is sexually unfaithful

user12692
I believe that you are talking about 1a: one who violates rules dishonestly. Is that correct?

@Jack More or less. Since you asked, here is my question as precisely as it seems to me to be possible in English: Do you approve of permitting anyone to attempt to do something dishonest or to fail to do something in order to facilitate dishonesty?
If "fail to do" is too imprecise, "refrain from doing".

@BillDubuque As already explained in great detail and by the disclaimer I've given, I've just submitted some of deleted questions which I've answered such that other users can freely evaluate whether or not the content deserve deletion or undeletion. I understand that we can not all agree that for a given answer the best choice is deletion or undeletion but I think that in a balanced system any user has the right to express his thought. No one is forced to undelete the questions I've submitted.

@Jack: Sorry I need to go now, but as I said, I look forward to your reply.

user12692
@user21820 Thanks for your message. Allow me to rephrase your question to make sure that I do not distort your intention: "Do you approve of permitting any users <of this site> to attempt to violates rules <of this site> dishonestly"?

user12692

@user21820 No problem. See you later.

5:19 PM
@user What is your criterion for selecting these questions such that they only include questions you have answered? Do you intend to request GENTLE to undelete every deleted question that you have answered?
D1 has now received another pity upvote so is no longer eligible for deletion. So much for answer quality standards. Maintaining quality is not always "gentle"

6:11 PM
@BillDubuque Not all of course, only questions which in my opinion deserve undelation.

As long as @BillDubuque is asking the question:
@user21820 @RRL @user When you post large numbers of links, what are your selection criteria?
@user21820 I seems to recall that you one posted a query here which found short posts. However, I have noticed that a few of the items you have posted recently are longer---has your criterion changed?
@RRL I do not recall if you ever stated any criteria; is there method to the madness?
@user You seem to be focused on questions which you have answered; is this a fair characterization?

6:44 PM
@XanderHenderson I select them from my page, they are question I know better and for which I can evaluate better the value of the content. Nothing else. I also look to other question submitted and if I think that the content can be useful I act accordingly. I undeserved we can have different point of views on that.

@user How do you "select them from your page"? Don't you have to do an explicit search to find your deleted answers?
Did you find any that didn't deserve to be undeleted?

@XanderHenderson: I post deletion candidates almost exclusively with tags for areas like real analysis and calculus where I am active. These include PSQs and duplicates (which in many cases have appeared umpteen times like "prove (1+1/n)^n converges to e".
Clearly a consensus is reached here on these deletions and, as I am observing, voters who are not regularly present in this room are weighing in. I am concerned about the proliferation of duplicates and low quality questions that often beget low quality answers.

@RRL So these are just examples of questions which you come across while browsing those tags?

@XanderHenderson: That and through review queues where I am active in the vote/close process. I sometimes bookmark bad questions that are in the process of closure.

9:24 PM
@BillDubuque Yes of course, you should know that we can use the searching tools provided to find deleted questions. Among them select those which in my opinion have some useful content. You could also do the same with yours and submit them for an evaluation if you think that some question you answered has an useful content. Any users should do that.

@RRL Thank you for the clarification.

@user Do you ever post answers without "useful content"?

@BillDubuque In your answer to the same question, I suppose that "commutativite axioms" is probably supposed to be either "commutative axioms" or maybe "commutativity". You'll now better what you wanted to write - that's why I did not edit this and let you know instead.

9:43 PM
@BillDubuque I always try to make the best I can do but of course not always the result can be optimal or sometimes the result is not well considered by the community. In any case what counts is the overall content of the questions and of the all the given answers.

10:07 PM
@user Your prior message seems to imply that you believe that some of the answers you post do not have "useful content". Is that correct?

10:25 PM
Is voting to close as a duplicate bad for this site now? Do I vote to close too quickly?
@MartinR Even if you have all the good intentions, your way to act is really bad for the organization of the site. You believe to make a good job but it is really very bad. Think about it. I'm at your disposal to discuss that. Bye — user 11 hours ago

@BillDubuque I can’t see what you are trying to do with such kind of inquisitory sequel of questions. I’m trying to be kind with you, please do not go beyond the limit.
@MartinR Exactly today I’ve tried to talk with you but you refused. Now I see you seems interested to that. Now I can’t. Next time if you are interested we can continue. Thanks

@user I already responded to you in chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/101920/room-for-user-and-martin-r. I did not have the time to do it earlier.

11:25 PM
@user I'm trying to understand your replies, in particular if you believe all of your answers contain "useful content" so they all should be undeleted according to your criteria. You have yet to answer that. Do you?
