5:07 AM
@Malavika Good Morning Malvi :-)

2 hours later…
6:48 AM
Is anyone proficient in conformal field theory here? I have some questions. I won't take much time.

@AjayMohan hi :-) This is just a room for general gossip and I doubt anyone here knows CFT. You would be better asking in the main physics chat room though that room is quiet at this time of day.

Oh, thanks John. I'll go there.

7 hours later…
1:47 PM
@malavika see this.
Maharana pratap with his 90kg sword more than the weight of akbar.
Akbar was a coward he never faces pratap in war.
He cheated with pratap.
Please see this full episode.
@Malavika
Once you saw it ping me. @Malavika

2:46 PM
@Ajay Mishra hi. Brother.
Evening.

It is night, though. Hello!

Hi. Are you in college or at home.
@AjayMishra
@AbhasKumarSinha hi abhi whatsapp.

@yuvrajsingh nu

Home. We were supposed to vacate our room before 5th of December due to InterIIT stuff.

2:52 PM
Oh, k.
Where are you from originally @Ajay Mishra.

What do you mean? I am from nowhere, if you set your time of reference at the moment of big bang?

Lol.

How were your grades? I guess you might have gone through your result as they were out on 2nd December.

@AjayMishra no exam started on 2nd dec

@AjayMishra Yes I am satisfied with it.

2:55 PM
@yuvrajsingh great :)

@Ajay Mishra what about you.

@AbhasKumarSinha What do you mean?

@AjayMishra My exams (pre board) started

@yuvrajsingh I'm already nervous, here they would be out on 20th december.
@yuvrajsingh What you got?

@AjayMishra nervous? for an overrated piece of paper?

2:59 PM
No, they are displayed on ERP(an online platform), so in this sense the work of paper would be done by laptop screen which is infact quite underrated in these days, in some aspects.

@yuvrajsingh ksa hua?
@AjayMishra true

Hey, @JohnRennie a question, are you free?

@AjayMishra hi, yes, I'm for a few minutes.

Find explicit example of potential where it cannot be approxiamated by harmonic oscillator around its minimum. Isn't this question self-contradictory?

3:03 PM
Infinite square well?

@AjayMishra I got 8.

$V(x) = V_0 |x|$ ?
$V(x) = -\delta(x)$ ?

Yeah, I thought of that too, but it is approxiamately looking like a parabola, which lead to think what is "approxiamation" meant here?
@JohnRennie A very sharp parabola?

@AjayMishra :-)

Infinite square well seems like a zoomed pixelated photo of a parabola.
:)

3:07 PM
@AjayMishra hydrogen atom complete ho gya?

@yuvrajsingh Well.
@AbhasKumarSinha Simple harmonic motion was earlier.1) Basic QM is taught later in the course 2) Depends on how deep you are asking about hydrogen atom.

Laplace for polar coordinates, took me (2-3 minutes to memorize, surprisingly)
$$ \nabla^2 = \left[ \dfrac{1}{r^2} \dfrac{\partial }{\partial r} r^2 \dfrac{\partial }{\partial r} + \dfrac{1}{r^2 \sin \theta} \dfrac{\partial}{\partial \theta} \sin \theta \dfrac{\partial}{\partial \theta} + \dfrac{1}{r^2 \sin^2 \theta} \dfrac{\partial^2}{\partial \phi^2} \right] $$

You don't need to memorize.

@AjayMishra solution of $r, \theta, \phi$?

What do you mean?
This is an identity
1 min ago, by Abhas Kumar Sinha
$$ \nabla^2 = \left[ \dfrac{1}{r^2} \dfrac{\partial }{\partial r} r^2 \dfrac{\partial }{\partial r} + \dfrac{1}{r^2 \sin \theta} \dfrac{\partial}{\partial \theta} \sin \theta \dfrac{\partial}{\partial \theta} + \dfrac{1}{r^2 \sin^2 \theta} \dfrac{\partial^2}{\partial \phi^2} \right] $$
Or I should say definition.

3:10 PM
@AjayMishra For an hydrogen atom, you've to solve Sch Eqn for $\psi (r, \theta, \phi)$ using some methods of approximation, legendre's formula and stuff, are those convered?
@AjayMishra We don't use Identity words for operators...

No. Even the semester in which physics is scheduled hasn't started yet.
@AbhasKumarSinha That's why I modified it to "defintion".

@AjayMishra At least that^ was meant to be memorized, otherwise, it'd take an hour to calculate using chain rule :( (tensor shortcuts are ofc there, but I've not read them)
@AjayMishra :-)

No, 2-3 minute thing. We had that in tutorials.

@AjayMishra Can you show me your notes to see how you do it? (using angles or gradient of divergence method (using definition))

@AjayMishra what about you.

3:15 PM
Wait, here are two things for whose this question can be interpreted for, whether that derivation of laplace operator in polar coodinates or the solution of schrodinger equation for hydrogen atom.
@yuvrajsingh What specifically are you asking?

@AjayMishra derivation in polar coordinates, solution is easy. I need to see how you derieve thm in polar coordinates.

How was the semester, and studies.@AjayMishra

there are vector methods too, but they are also very lengthy, not of 2-3 minutes....
@JohnRennie hello

@AbhasKumarSinha hi

@JohnRennie what are you doing?

3:18 PM
@AbhasKumarSinha passing the time chatting while my lunch is cooking :-)

@JohnRennie oh okay :-)
Do you know Brodha V?

@AbhasKumarSinha Wait 2-3 minutes then.

@AjayMishra I'm free bhiya, take your time

@AbhasKumarSinha Rap isn't really my thing.

@JohnRennie oh okay...

3:20 PM
@AbhasKumarSinha I listen to prog rock and indy music.

@JohnRennie cool!
@JohnRennie hellogoodbye?
I mean that is a band^

@AbhasKumarSinha never heard of them ...

@JohnRennie they are dead, when I was a kid, I listened to them...

@AbhasKumarSinha not really my thing.

@JohnRennie hahahaha... then what?

@JohnRennie <3

@AbhasKumarSinha Now, I noticed that it is for three dimension :P

@AjayMishra np, show your notes...

3:30 PM
@yuvrajsingh It went fine, though getting A in majority of subject. I have no idea why!

Good.

@yuvrajsingh lethal*

@AjayMishra kya khaate ho... A without study?!

@AbhasKumarSinha Holy fuck! I am regretting that I didn't got Ex with study!

3:33 PM
@AjayMishra Well, that's what I said, you can't get girlfriend with A+

I don't care, not my domain of interest.

@AbhasKumarSinha Holy fuck! I am regretting that I didn't got Ex with study!
ex?

@AjayMishra Yes.

@AjayMishra That doesn't even give the true picture of the actual picture of what happens inside atoms, but that's a good way to teach....

@AjayMishra hi, Alesha here. Uv sister I am using his account.
Sir, are you from math background.
I need your advice.
If you, can help.

3:39 PM
ask

@AbhasKumarSinha It is a grade one get, Excellent.
@AbhasKumarSinha What do you mean?

@AjayMishra ah okay
@AjayMishra calculate 3D version of that, you'll find that it won't be fun...

Why the math TA would be interested in solving problem regarding the atom? And why the math professor would give problem with QM in mind?
@AbhasKumarSinha Same thing, approach would be same.

@AjayMishra no, you can't solve the problem of an atom on a 2D Version... for example, $l, m n$ and it's values... They can't be done in 3D version..
@AjayMishra ^

@yuvrajsingh I am a fresher. No sir please, as it constrains me in the environment that I have never experienced.

3:42 PM
@AjayMishra I'm talking of physics side...

@AjayMishra, can I call you bahiya.

@AbhasKumarSinha I have not encountered QM academically yet.

@AjayMishra oh okay... :-)
@AjayMishra line integrals, are they in your Math Courses?

@yuvrajsingh That really doesn't matter, and I guess that's the point of discussion niether in any need of consideration.

OK, so I was struggling with my math.
Because I am weak in chemistry and physics,
And I am in class 12.

3:45 PM
@AbhasKumarSinha Next sem, but I have no problem in math, provided you have encountered the disciplines before starting any sorta discussion on them

@AjayMishra me too^
weak in chem

#metoo.

But after doing hard work on chemistry, I am still not able to score much in class room.

#metoo XD lol

And due to this my math grade also affected.

3:46 PM
Hopefully, I ain't gonna encounter that subject in my life.

@yuvrajsingh Organic, inorganic, physical which one?
@AjayMishra Meri baat thi ye! :)

Organic.

Oh, fuck! Here it goes, the rat race! I am out!

@yuvrajsingh Write each and every reaction from each chapter (you may skip biomolecules)
@AjayMishra hahah.....

OK.
But I need to show some marks to my parents, who are

3:48 PM
@yuvrajsingh Do you remember sandmeyer's reaction?

Yes.

@yuvrajsingh Tollen's reagent?

Yes.

@yuvrajsingh good, then focus on nomenclature and conversions part... That's enough.

OK.
But in jee that doesn't, t come.

3:51 PM
@yuvrajsingh Complete NCERT Exercises and Exemplar, that's enough for JEE
Mains... and 70% advanced...

@AjayMishra, sir how do I do irritating chapter like bio molecule, chemistry in every day life.

@yuvrajsingh Don't read whole Chemistry in everyday life...

The whole chapter isn't coming,
Skip bio molecules, that's what I've done

@AbhasKumarSinha personal I disagree with you about NCERT...

3:53 PM
@yuvrajsingh NCERT is enough for JEE main and Adv... if read properly using Exemplar.

@yuvrajsingh see chemistry syllabus, Chem in everyday, the whole chapter isn't coming in exam... - cbseacademic.nic.in/web_material/CurriculumMain20/SrSecondary/…
@yuvrajsingh download chemistry exemplar from here - ncert.nic.in/exemplar/exemplar.html

OK.
Thanks.

@AbhasKumarSinha jee boy.
Are you preparing for same.
