Some of this issue can be avoided by removing some gender clarifications: in your example, there is no need to mention that the netball team was a girls' team. FYI, it probably wouldn't be just for a few days: there's the time to get an appointment, some birth controls can only be started on a specific moment of your cycle, and some again aren't effective immediately so there's a waiting period there too. Excellent answer, just wanted to add something that doesn't warrant a separate post : when you speak with your wife about her cooking, don't do it after a meal. My guess is meal time has become quite stressful, so pick a time when you're both calm and relaxed. People tend to talk about an issue the moment it comes up : don't, that's when emotions and stress are the highest, and you're less likely to have a reasonable and constructive discussion. — MlleMei 1 min ago

I liked this answer because it is the only one so far which encourages to look at both sides of this conflict. It had a problem, though: One paragraph which I consider a sexist rant.
