**CCCC** here is similar to that in the Sphinx Lair: A user posts a cryptic clue. The one who solves it make up the next. A chain is thus formed. However, due to the small population in this room, a SPOIL ANSWER option is added. When half or more of the players in the game agree on spoiling, the OP will spoil the answer. The first one to request a spoil will get to make the next clue.

**Joining the game:** When a new user answers a clue, they will automatically become part of the list

**Players in the game: (in alphabetical order)** @Dmihawk @jafe @MrPie @OmegaKrypton @PiIsNot3

this week's CCCC's... sponsored by previous Persian Kings, now with extra beheadings!

check out the c4 with historical flair, it holds its own with the sphinx's lair

Looks like this rhyme is in the air, so let's hope mine is fair and square!

7:47 AM
speaking of kings, how's your series going @OmegaKrypton?
did you remake the last part yet

8:10 AM
I really need to get back into the puzzle-making groove... :( the problem I have is that I psyche myself up too much and focus on trying to create spectacular puzzles
does anyone else have that problem, or is it just me?

@jafe in progress...
@Dmihawk haha here :)

to this day, I'm still astounded that the puzzle I put the least time/effort into is my most popular
but I think I must have gotten lucky and featured in the HNQs

it's a complete lottery hehe
my most popular puzzle was made as a quick filler while i worked on a "big" puzzle

oof lol

there must be some sort of algorithm that lands you on HNQ's though

8:15 AM
yeah
i think it helps if you get answers/upvotes very quickly after posting
the formula is public, but i forget where i saw it...

oh really?
deploys crawlbots

A: What are the criteria for questions to be selected for Hot Network Questions?

David FullertonBasically what's documented here: What formula should be used to determine "hot" questions? We have a few tweaks: Successive questions from the same site are penalized by increasing amounts. So, the first question from SO in the list gets multiplied by 1.0, the second by 0.98, the third ...

@jafe I found this on MSE, but I don't know if it's recent or not

found it

Jinx!

8:18 AM
hah!

oh ok, so essentially you need to post when PSE is quiet and have a question with decent upvotes and at least one answer

@Dmihawk That's why a lot of PSE's HNQs are riddles and logic puzzles
They're easy to write, simple to answer, and are generally accessible to a broad audience
(Or at least I think that's the case)

true, but they're also the kind of puzzles that get solved very quickly by the PSE vets
you post something like that while Deusovi's online and it's solved before you've even done the proof-read

That is, if your post is even worthy of the great Deusovi's attention in the first place :)

oh I'm pretty sure he sees all >_<
I've been halfway through adding comments on new posts only to find it has been marked as on hold

8:28 AM
@Dmihawk Yeah, his name literally begins with "Deus," so we mere mortals can't even being to comprehend his power

that all being said, I do love and admire the PSE community, it is substantially more welcoming and inviting than some of the other SE/SO communities
speaking of which, we are in @OmegaKrypton's home... how you going OK?

@Dmihawk Yeah, I think so too, probably cause PSE's a lot smaller than many of the more popular sites, and there's a core set of users that are active on a daily basis, so there's a greater sense of community

@PiIsNot3 I think that's such a wonderful thing :) in stark contrast to some of the more toxic online communities that have evolved (I'm looking at you, YouTube comments)

@Dmihawk Heh, I've been online enough to know when to proceed to the nearest exit :) Although I'm not sure you can really call YouTube comments a "community"? More like a jumbled mess of unintelligible words and people desperately trying to be funny

@Dmihawk well, things have settled a bit at my home... ;) how bout you?
@PiIsNot3 oof

8:41 AM
@PiIsNot3 you've got a point there!
@OmegaKrypton that's good to hear! all good on this end, not much really happens in this part of the world so "business as usual" is almost always the order of the day

Well over here it's way past midnight, and I should be in bed right now...

@PiIsNot3 past midnight? so you've gotta be like 21 hours behind me, are you west coast US?

@Dmihawk Darn, I thought that was vague enough to not give it away

rofl you know you're on PSE chat right? :P

8:46 AM
vote to close... textbook math problem

Lol, well maybe you can figure out where I live then?

if only it was written on your profile page... oh wait

oh, it literally says you're a student at UC Berkeley
well, I prefer to do timezone math in my head ok? :P

So like I said, I don't think any of you guys have a clue as to where I live or what I do
Not a siiiiiiiingle clue

I recently learned that my US geography is quite terrible. We had a new guy join our company a few weeks ago and he's from Georgia. It took me by considerable surprise that Georgia neighbours Florida! If you'd have asked me, I'd have put it waaaaaay more mid-west

8:52 AM
by contrast, i bet he knew that the north island is north of the south island

well yeah, but we throw Stewart Island in there for bonus points :P

OK well I've gotta go now, ping me if any of you want a hint to the CCCC or can solve it (preferably the latter), and hope you all have a good day/night/I don't know the standard greeting abbreviation

farewell :)

2 hours later…

@Dmihawk @jafe @PiIsNot3 @MrPie @TheSimpliFire in case you care, the King Part of Piece de Resistance is OUT!
