12:07 AM
@BobCross Me neither I guess, OP was very observant!
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 since I couldn't find fuse-taps for standard fuses in my country (I can import from aliexpress or amazon, but would take a while), I decided to build one. It isn't pretty, but works fine, want to see it?

Stereo is installed (took me the whole afternoon, because I wanted to do a fine job)

That's the only way to get it done!

I took a single fuse box, soldered two connectors from a burnt fuse in the tip and added the exit wire on one of the sides
That's before isolating the soldered parts

which side are you running power to?
(or rather providing power)?

12:14 AM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Power is coming from the single wire below, going through the fuse and then feeding the bifurcated wire
So I'm sharing the fuse

Not a good idea. You should run two fuses.
and put the side with the splice off of the power side ...
Put a second fuse on the splice side.

I can change that, I only shared the fuse because it's the fuse that was supposed to feed the radio with the stock stereo wiring

Are you feeding two different things?

This particular fuse is originally used to feed the rear light, the stereo and the horn if I'm not mistaken

Or just the stereo? And if only the stereo, why didn't you just grab the power from the wiring harness which fed the stereo in the first place?

12:20 AM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 There was no wiring harness going to the stereo, I guess the previous owner installed a module and might have removed it

gotcha ... since it fed the stereo in the first place, it should be fine.

The stereo manual says it feeds 4x25W to speakers, I'm using only 2, so 50W, would give about 5A. The fuse is 10A
But I'll investigate further, I might change to a separate fuse later

Like I said, if it was running the stereo in the first place, it should be fine. Make sure you secure the leads in there firmly, or you'll be reconnecting it everytime you go over a bump ;-)
Other than that, you surely pulled off what we used to call "Field Expedient Means" ... IOW: Good job!

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 That's one of the things I want to improve, locking both fuse connectors together so they stay more firmly in place. The other thing is probably cutting those wires shorter to fit it better

Good choice!

12:29 AM
@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Thanks! It felt good to see it working at the end of the day, was almost dark already when I was done haha
Can I ask your opinion on something else?

I'm full of opinions :o)

I'm soon going to have to change the rubbers from the doors and trunk (already here), and I'm pretty sure I'll find bad surprises aka rust

Sounds about right ... so ... ?

There are other points of rust, like on the fire wall (below the battery on the inside of the car, I'll upload a picture). I'm just wondering how urgent it is for me to fix them, or if it could be worth it to wait longer and just go for a full bodywork
and for now just sanding a bit and painting with rust paint

Clean it up now.
The sooner the better.
Rust only gets worse.

12:37 AM

That one is a lot worse. Yah, clean it up and put the rust converter paint on it.

Cool, I might have to take it to the shop for that latter one, so I'll start thinking about scheduling it
I think if I start sanding there I'll end up with a hole to weld, which I can't do myself (wish I had the welding skills and tools :p)
Looking on the bright side, it could be way worse for a 18 year old car right?

Clean it up the best you can and hit it with the rust converter ... you won't be disappointed.

@Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Sure, I'll do it! And post pictures when it's done haha

Good deal.
