I live in a big city (in Paris, France) and take public transportation every day. I'm perceived as a woman and I will sometimes have to sit near people who spread out and take up more space than just their seat's worth. I find this behavior very rude and unpleasant (I'm especially more uncomfortable around stranger men, who seem to do this often) and I would like the other person to stop taking so much space (and invading my personal space). It seems the final parenthesized text is your issue, and you may want to highlight it. Because the former really isn't something you can police. — zahbaz 32 secs ago

- Does the person pay a rent? - Talk to the person to understand the detail of her/his current situation. - The shop has been closed for 5 years, what is the reason? Are you interested by helping the person restart the shop and sharing the benefits? Or is it helpless? Before using whatever local method (legal action or not), show to the person that you have try to help and understand. If after that nothing change, it is up to you. — TransientEntity 46 secs ago

+1 for explaining the other point of view. Such behaviour annoys me terribly, but I need to keep in mind, it's not your fault you're so tall ;) — Danubian Sailor 1 min ago

@TCooper I don't know exactly how calling someone fat would make them feel. I know it would usually make them feel bad and it varies a lot from one person to the next, thus I wouldn't try to draw an equivalence between how it might make someone feel and my own feelings (at least not to justify or excuse any of my actions, but perhaps to try to understand others better). — NotThatGuy 1 min ago
