12:11 AM
Last night I made a tofu scramble with [deep breath] onion, garlic, olive oil, sesame oil, black pepper, cayenne pepper, cracked red pepper, turmeric, paprika, cumin, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. [eats cold for breakfast with Tabasco sauce]

@BESW What kind of tofu did you use?

12:26 AM
Non-silken... probably firm? It's the kind I always get so I've stopped even noticing the words on the package.

I have bad experiences with tofu ... but it has been pretty-much unseasoned ...

...unseasoned tofu is like red rice without fina'dene. What's the point?

indeed so! But it was my first exposure, and turned me away from it
Is there any reason fro tofu, when I can use mushrooms? :)

Tofu's often cheaper, depending on where you are?

fair point

12:30 AM
And depending on the kind you get, it can do things mushrooms can't.

(we used to get field mushrooms for free - just the time to gather them)

Mushrooms have their own flavour and texture, while tofu is more of a chameleon food.
I like to make tofu crumbled and really spicy as part of other dishes, like in stir fries.
The version I describe above is basically "what if spicy scrambled eggs, but tofu?"
Because I'm trying to avoid cholesterol. Mushrooms wouldn't really substitute there very well.

Interesting.
I'm not a big SPICY! BURN! SPICY! fan. Especially for breakfast.

You can also use blocks of tofu to build rudimentary structures. This is harder to do when you use mushrooms.

And I'm not a big fan of it, but a lot of people I know really enjoy deep-fried soft silken tofu, which is crunchy on the outside and almost liquid on the inside.
I'm a big fan of spicy and hot stuff, but I find that often Western versions of spicy-hot dishes sacrifice nuance for brute force.

12:34 AM
Do mushrooms have cholesterol in? (Not an area I've looked into )

No, those sentences were unrelated to each other but both related to the dish.
Tofu instead of eggs because I'm keeping my cholesterol down, and not mushrooms because mushrooms don't really egg up well.

@BESW indeed so. Although I had a friend who, although NEEDED ALL THE BURN, managed to do it very well

And sadly my stomach is a bit too sensitive for the really good hot stuff in my area.
So I tend to do a lot of my own seasoning.

fried egg sandwich. fried in cummin (i think) with cheese that smells like socks, and a dhal (?)

Jun 18 '18 at 10:36, by BESW
Tonight we had boring sandwiches and smoothies, but I made a hot mustard using yellow mustard as a base, with wasabi paste, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, honey, and ginger salabat powder.

12:37 AM
@BESW that does sound nice
I do like a good mustard :)

For tonight's dinner we have a special guest: fresh tuna! Marinated in soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper. Fried in olive oil with some black pepper. Served on sautéed onion, green beans, and carrots, with toast and slices of cucumber.

That's a strange way to treat your guests

Dec 5 '17 at 10:41, by BESW
Tonight I fried carrots and onions and green beans in sesame oil with garlic and pepper and ginger, then fried salmon in olive oil with calamansi juice and cayenne pepper. Tossed them together and served on whole wheat noodles.

ginger doesn't always work for me.

Fresh ginger is great, you can put the root in the freezer and grate off what you need directly into the dish as you cook.
But lately I've been using ginger salabat powder because I'm lazy.

12:41 AM
Ah, "You can keep it in the freezer, it lasts forever", that's always good! :)

Also: ginger in juice drinks. Yes.
Jun 1 '17 at 10:24, by BESW
> PINK RANGER: mix to taste:
- hot tea (I like using red herbal teas, like Celestial Seasonings' Red Zinger)
- ginger salabat punch powder
- cranberry juice (not punch)
- lemon, lime, calamansi, or similar juice
- brown sugar until it's not too strong for your guests
chill and add carbonated water just before serving

I can eat lumps of caramelised ginger. Cookies with lumps of ginger.
@BESW NO
Well, maybe it was just the specific drink, yesterday. Orange and Ginger. ugh no

@BlackSpike I dice candied ginger into my spicy avocado brownies.

@BESW might work ...

@BlackSpike You can also try putting roasted ginger in teas and other drinks, if regular ginger is too strong

12:45 AM
(Replace the oil and egg with mashed avocado in your brownie mix of choice.)
@MikeQ Or boil ginger to get a tea of whatever strength you like.

@MikeQ interesting
I'm not allowed avocado. It's not good for my gf's diet

salabat is basically boiled ginger with a bit of lemon, honey, and pepper.
@BlackSpike You can use any fruit puree in place of the oil and egg, but if it's wetter (like pumpkin puree) you leave out the water too, and consider using a larger pan so it spreads thinner.
(Fruits like pumpkin retain the moisture so a regular thickness of brownie will stay much wetter in the middle, and be kinda fudgy and harder to tell when it's done.)

We're always looking for "healthy" snack foods. Low calories, low cholesterol, low sugar, but yummy!

Sometimes I make pumpkin coffee gingerbread brownies by replacing the oil/egg/water with one third each of pumpkin, coffee, and molasses, and adding spices like mustard, ginger, and cloves.

Can't stand coffee in sweet food.
Or anything apart from a big steaming mug, tbh
Beetroot. That's your "improves anything" ingredient! :)

12:54 AM
You can often substitute carob powder for cocoa powder in chocolate-related recipes

@BlackSpike Have you tried spiced popcorn? You can pop corn without oil pretty easily, then spray on just enough for spices to stick and sprinkle whatever flavors you want. I'm fond of garlic salt and curry powder.
Lots of flavor and crunch but not much else.

@BESW garlic popcorn sounds good. Curried, less so ...
Might work

Sometimes I heat up peanut butter and drizzle that on it.

@BESW I just skip the heating .. and the popcorn ...
Need to get back into cooking. Used to make a lot of cakes ...
I think I've learned not to put "TOO MUCH" mint into them :)

This conversation is making me hungry... even though I just ate
:P

1:00 AM
:P

Rainbow cake was my 'party piece'. Four bowls of cake mix. Choc, mint, orange, vanilla. Blob them into cake tin. single stir. Cook, add buttercream filling. icing (frosting?)

user15026
1:49 AM
@BESW that sounds yummy.

user15026
@BlackSpike I am not sure how I feel about orange and mint in the same cake.

That does sound like two good things that don't go well together

user15026
2:20 AM
nods

user15026
Like orange and chocolate, yes, mint and chocolate yes, but all at once...not sure.

I think I would hate that yeah

I've had orange sherbet and mint chocolate chip ice cream in the same bowl, and it's... acceptable.
The chocolate helps tie them together.

user15026
That's not a very loud endorsement :P

I think more chocolate might make it better?

2:25 AM
Lol
That's not really making it better

user15026
idk a lot of things are better when covered in chocolate

or filled with chocolate
(i hate you, you're all making me hungry)

Q: How does the Commune spell work when cast by someone with the Ritual Caster feat or a warlock with the Book of Ancient Secrets invocation?

HalfthawedThe D&D 5e spell Commune is a Cleric spell that contacts the Cleric's chosen divine proxy and asks them three 'yes or no' questions. It is a ritual spell, so a Warlock with Book of Shadows or anyone with the Ritual Caster feat really can learn and cast the spell. Let's say an atheist wizard uses...

Ovaltine until it's sweet enough to drink

user15026
Why for wimps?

user15026
2:31 AM
(also you are a deliciously terrible influence)

Because of the Ovaltine.
The original drink was entirely unsweetened.

user15026
mmmm, I'd have to throw a little sweet in I think

Sometimes I put in turmeric and/or cloves too.

@Ash yes exactly, but that could be something else covered in chocolate

user15026
Very true!

2:51 AM
@Ash @trogdor Proportions are important. Both mint and orange can be strong flavors, so you'd only want to add small amounts. Usually they're added as secondary flavors to complement a primary flavor.
e.g. They both mix well with chocolate, but if you add too much of either, then they overpower the dish and can clash

3:11 AM
@BESW My daily mind-blowing: countries that aren't Australia don't have Milo.

@Miniman It's in some stores here, but not regularly in any of the ones I go to.

who's Milo?

Milo (stylised as MILO) is a chocolate and malt powder typically mixed with hot water and milk to produce a beverage popular in Oceania, South America, Southeast Asia and parts of Africa. Produced by Nestlé, Milo was originally developed by Australian inventor Thomas Mayne in 1934.Most commonly sold as a powder in a green tin, often depicting various sporting activities, Milo is available as a premixed beverage in some countries, and has been subsequently developed into a snack bar and breakfast cereal. Its composition and taste differ in some countries. Milo maintains significant popularity in...
It's kinda like Ovaltine.

@Miniman we get some Australian stuff here actually
As weird as it is

@BESW Some curious Googling later, ovaltine was first, then milo, then nesquik.

3:14 AM
Our best rootbeer brands are from Australia.

But nesquik isn't malted so they completely missed the point.
@BESW Which is bizarre, because rootbeer isn't a thing Australians know about (except as "that stuff Americans drink that tastes like cough medicine").

@Miniman I prefer the unmalted Ovaltine, but Nesquik is sugary enough to be in a league all its own.

Hmmm, apparently something called Horlick's predates ovaltine, too.

There's a name that's aged well.

3:17 AM
I never heard of Ovaltine before
I'm a big fan of nesquik

@Helwar Huh, I thought ovaltine was everywhere
@Helwar Huh, I thought ovaltine was everywhere.

I've only ever heard of Ovaltine through A Christmas Story and related memes.

Gah, sorry.

I think the primary distinction is that Nesquik doesn't have a famous history of being advertised as healthy.

I really never heard of it
it's just chocolate for your milk, like nesquik
here in spain we have Colacao (wich I think is a spanish only brand? don't quote me on this) and Nesquik. Well there are others but these are the two majors

3:19 AM
Ovaltine, Horlicks, and MILO all have extensive periods of being branded as a healthy alternative to chocolate milk, sodas, etc.

user15026
@BESW isn't ovaltine malted milk and chocolate powder? Or am I mixing it up with something else

@BESW The malt makes a big difference to me. But then, we used to have nestle malted milk (no chocolate flavouring, just malt).

Nesquik... tried that once. They won the ensuing lawsuit but dropped the marketing campaign.

@BESW Weeeird

user15026
Nesquik is just afaik a chocolate syrup

3:21 AM
The only malted thing I can think about is beer...

user15026
Mind you I only really but strawberry Nesquik so maybe I misremember

Oh yeah, you guys don't have maltesers either.

It's not syrup... at least not here. Its chocolate powder you mix in your milk
oh I know Maltesers, we have those

@BESW yes this, also I finally found exactly one of the Bundaberg Root beer

3:22 AM
Nesquik is a wide range of products, including both syrups and powders.

But only one

@Helwar Hey, nice!

user15026
@Helwar oh right, here you can get it as syrup or powder.

user15026
I rmemeber the syrup mostly for teh bunny bottle

@trogdor Whereas I've never even seen it!

3:23 AM
Nesquik is only a "brand of products" under Nestle, afaik, isn't it?

Yup.

@Ash Oh! I 'membah now!

@Miniman really? XD granted I've spent half a year looking for it

user15026
@Helwar Yeah but growing up we only ever really got the chocolate syrup so for me and a lot of my local friends we think the brown bunny bottle of chocolate syrup

user15026
There was a store brand that had a creepy clown bottle

3:24 AM
@trogdor Yeah! Ginger beer, sarsaparilla, lemon lime bitters, passionfruit, sparkling apple, but never root beer.

@Helwar All I know about Cola Cao is that song.

@Miniman same, I know one store I can get literally all those at but it doesn't have the root beer
Granted the root beer one is relatively similar to the sasparilla one

We have Colacao here... and they are super proud of their defective formula. For years their ad strategy has been "Hey, our powdered chocolate doesn't mix well and you end up with lumps/clots, that means it's natural and healthier and tastes better!"

I like the root beer better but still

obviously I'm being sarcastic but it boils down to that :P
@BESW Uh, super racist one? Was cringey even back in the day, but as a young kid I used to sing that

3:27 AM
Yeah, that one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXfc9g1AsXA

another super racist spanish product
it's delicious though

That was a choice people made.

They are "Conguitos", roughly translated: "Little people from Congo"
@BESW I dunno what's in those cups, but that's not Cola-Cao. Unless they used like a whole can in a single cup, it would never be that dark

3:43 AM
and I singlehandedly brought the conversation to it's death. Yay?

You have me humming that racist commercial jingle, so yay?
Luckily I don't know spanish or the words of the song nearly well enough to actually cause it to be a problem, but yeah lol

I'm watching Jiri Trnka's "Ruka."

@BESW So, watching that video now and only 60 seconds in: that dude needs some plants.

He has one! It's on the windowsill.

oh hey! there it is!
oh no!

3:54 AM
@Rubiksmoose Other than the name of the things, the actual lyrics aren't COMPLETELY bonkers. It's mostly "We are the conguitos, and we taste super good, we are dressed in chocolate and our body is nuts"
i'm gonna head to bed, have fun chatizens!

(Rebecca Sugar cites "Ruka" as a major influence in her work, and I think it shows.)

@Helwar Oh I actually meant the Colacao one
@BESW That was neat!

@Rubiksmoose Oh yeah that one's basically "Hi, I'm the Black guy who labors in the fields to make your drink. It's a good drink!"
It really feels like the Amazon warehouse ad, but with more racism.
@Rubiksmoose I need to watch more Trnka. Sen noci svatojánské is on my list.

Hi all, I need some advice. A new user answered my question but kind of missed the point. So I gave an encouraging comment to get them to improve their answer. They responded blaming me for being unclear. I clarified why I wanted the improvement and then they edited.
The edit still doesn't really get the point and uses examples entirely from different systems. So I queried if they are actually played PF. Their response is somewhat patronising and I'll admit to being more than a little frustrated by it.

A: How to run NPCs with complicated mechanics?

jirikuCombat Scripts I find it helpful to write up an encounter script for complex NPCs which specifies the default action they'll take for the first 3-5 rounds of combat (and IME by then most combats are over or the number of NPCs I'm managing has at least been whittled down by to a handful). For exa...

@BESW I'm not sure anything they have said is worthy of mod attention. They definitely haven't broken any site rules.

Then really, just disengage. Change your question if you think any of their feedback is good for that, but it sounds like the comments aren't gonna make anything better for there being more of them.

Alright thanks. I'll do that then.

Q: Can a vial of holy water be used as a weapon?

SpencerIn the Player’s Handbook the section for holy water states (emphasis mine): As an action, you can splash the contents of this flask onto a creature within 5 feet of you or throw it up to 20 feet, shattering it on impact. In either case, make a ranged attack against a target creature, treating...

? Everyone knows the real purpose of holy water is to check for false floors.

People do not watch enough tumb raiding movies those days
You pour the holy water on the floor, and it dissolve the unholy sealing around the trap, smh

8:19 AM
Much simpler, you toss it at the floor. If it goes thru it... then the platform is just an illusion waiting you to step on it.

have you heard of rocks

@Carcer not contemplated. The real vampire hunter only uses throwing crosses, water flasks, old pocket watches, knifes, axes and occasionally boomerangs.

What kind of loony walk around with rocks in his pockets, of all things?
Also: boomerangs?
Last time I saw some kind of vampire hunter, he was more into the boom stick than the boom erang

@Nyakouai it is a valid alternative to the throwing cross when your country want to censor religious symbols ^_^

8:35 AM
@Nyakouai well pocket sand is just tiny rocks
@Derpy Na, you dip stuff in it to bless it.

@kviiri It's tiny rocks and bits of sea-shell and other stuff. Makes it fancier
I'm making fun of the good old rock, but a well used pebble saved my life more than once, in past games

@kviiri Ye oldie art of dipping water into water :P

@Derpy I call it holyopathy --- the water remembers the holiness even when dilute.

8:52 AM
@kviiri but does the holiness dilute too?
Is the water holiness quality a true/false value or a real number?
Could the water be 90% holly?
does less-holly water only work on lesser-undead?

I thought we were making NetHack jokes, and there holiness is ternary (unholy, normaĺ, holy) and can indeed be extended indefinitely by dipping water into water

Tep, but I was also trying to imagine how the Dwarf Fortress devs would model holy water :P
probably every single drop of the water would have it holiness tracked individually

9:10 AM
I should check back what's going on with Cataclysm
It's like Dwarf Fortress except only Adventurer mode, and FOSS
and post-zombie-apocalyptic

Q: Is there a basic list of ways in which a low-level Rogue can get advantage for sneak attack?

LongI'm looking through the PHB and I don't see any simple list of ways for a rogue to get advantage in combat. At high levels, a Rogue might have a special subclass such as Assassin that might allow advantage on attacks for sneak attack. However, if I were running a rogue I would make attacks with...

@Carcer Well, Toto blessed the rains down in Africa
(or reigns? It was during the Apartheid era so I hope not)

10:59 AM
No no, it's rains
I refuse to acknowledge any possibility of Toto blessing reigns in Africa

11:43 AM
Then again, I think there is a certain merit in hoping the blessing conveys wisdom and sense into the unwise rulers

@GcL yeah that was my thought too, exposure will eventually kill it

I hate that installation so much.

@BESW Seriously. I just heard about it, but I now hate it.

The song was always creepy, but that's just doubling down.

1:34 PM
But also, there's no way that equipment will last long exposed to a desert sun.

imagine being lost in the desert and you think you hear music on the wind. Toto's Africa, you realize.

This is it. This is the moment where you know you've gone insane.

With no other plan, you attempt to follow the source of the music; at least you'll be able to put the hallucination to rest.

It's getting louder.

You eventually stumble upon several white monoliths and an ipod, actually playing Toto's Africa.

What sadistic hell is this?

Love it

@goodguy5 I'm not unconvinced that it's an SCP

user15026
@goodguy5 I'd not call him a psychopath because that means a lot of things I don't think you intend, but it's uncomfortable.

@goodguy5 Why did you have to show us this ...

and I'm not sure that I'm being not nice. but I will relent on this issue.

Regardless. the website gets weirder the more I look at it

it is very bizarre
I suspect it is meant to be art
and therefore cannot be held to normal standards of website design and usability.
(though personally I don't think there's any way you can possibly justify the fish cursor.)

1:50 PM
I wasn't particularly weirded out by any of that, it looked a bit like one image hosting site I know that has zero quality control and a culture for mild shock pictures

user15026
@goodguy5 I have, my statement still very much stands. You can't make that sort of judgement based on that.

user15026
@kviiri it feels like they're trying to be uncomfortable, and well at least they're succeeding in that goal so good for them?

I mean, it kind of feels like if your objective is to make people not want to use your site, you might as well just not host it.

@goodguy5 ... so don't look at it :P
(also my suggestion: don't link to such sites either, please, for everyone's sake, my own included >.>)

user15026
@Carcer that feels like part of the intended experience though

1:55 PM
@Ash art! I will never understand it

user15026
I feel that way about a lot of art!

user15026
But I think that's okay that I don't.

user15026
I don't have to understand it to appreciate it.

@Ash Same applies to those shock image sites :P

user15026
Hahaha this is true yes

2:03 PM
It's a very narrow view to say that anything you don't understand and makes you uncomfortable is psychotic.
@goodguy5 that sounds harsher than I meant it to. Basically just trying to say that it's easy to slap labels on things, especially things that a person doesn't understand.

As a general rule of thumb: It's sometimes ok to poke at the work, but usually not ok to poke at the conditions of the author.

I don't particularly appreciate the site, I'm more like 'whatever' than anything.
I had to review a hard disk of very questionable images for an HR case once, that's a pretty tame website really.

@GcL ... I'm not sure how loyalty to an 80s band tracks to pathfinding ability, but okay.

@Yuuki 70's, technically. They started in the 70's.

Weezer's a lot newer than that

2:16 PM
@JohnP Debut album in 1978 though.

@MikeQ This is a line we need to be more careful about when dealing with RPGs whose creators are public figures, I think.
Sometimes we let ourselves slide there, and it opens the door for chatters feeling like it'd be okay to disparage other people too. I'm working on it, but I'm far from perfect.

@ThomasWard good plan
@NautArch Football season just means places I like going are more crowded and louder than usual

@MikeQ the display or the song or the person?
@Nyakouai if I must endure it, so must you.
@JohnP I don't understand. what sounds harsher than you meant it? I don't see any other response

I missed this earlier:
The Discord RPG Jam is over and has some very interesting entires.

2:25 PM
@BESW That's amazing

Hilagyo Jam is a tabletop RPG jam that is all about expressing the soul of Filipino game design, and the many communities that define "Filipino".

@Rubiksmoose OP didn't actually confirm that warforged was that one. I think it's seriously implied, but not sure we can authoritatively say it is and link it.

The Your Move Jam is a jam to create a game where your only mechanic is one, single move as loosely defined by PbtA games.

@NautArch They did tell us the website though? And there is only one warforged on that site. Did I miss where it was unclear?

@Rubiksmoose Only because of the assumption that they are referring to the correct website. But either way, we can't answer it so it doesn't really matter.

@Yuuki 4'33" The RPG by CureWiki would be an excellent addition to the Your Move Jam.

@MikeQ wait, are we referring to the same SCP?

2:33 PM
@NautArch Assumptions are definitely allowed to be made when making edits though. In this case, I still don't even think it is an assumption. They told us the site and the race (And even the system) the only thing they didn't do it link it.

@Rubiksmoose okeydoke. As I said, I'd rather OP confirm it, but if you checked and it's the langauge on that site that's quoted then that's good enough for me. Still can't answer it here :(
And it does have that quote, so gotta be it.

@goodguy5 Yes. Although this topic seems to be rattling some hornet nests, so I'll leave it at that.

Good sleuthing!
@MikeQ I used to read SCP pretty regularly.

@NautArch Yeah everything matches perfectly. It I agree its not really something that is super answerable with anything beyond "We can't help you because we have no idea what it means"

@Rubiksmoose Is that a legit answer? Kind of like "ask your DM"?

2:38 PM
Jan 22 '18 at 17:34, by BESW
@Yuuki Not all questions can be answered. That's okay! Proof of un-answer-ability is itself a good answer, and if you can't prove it... then maybe someday someone will come along who can answer it.

@NautArch it's interesting but I never got on board with the weird metanarrative with all these named characters running around

SCP creeps me out too. There's a weirdly cruel undertone in the contributors competing to out-disturb each other, and the use of real-life inspirations for the entries often feels exploitative.
I'd like to see a version of the concept that doesn't codify things like treating criminals as subhuman.

Is that what they were going for?

@Carcer Agreed. For a while the links to other SCP articles was cute, although it's a bother when it becomes a weirdly self-referential network of dependent articles and badly described events

some of them are just very grotesque, yeah

2:42 PM
@MikeQ has that been a recent change? I don't think i've read it for about 3 years.

@NautArch It could be! I'm kind of inclined to say that it is a valid answer honestly.

@goodguy5 Hard to say, because the authorship changed over time. I think a lot of them were community-submitted.

@BESW ^

@Rubiksmoose and it's an answer that's good to have. Kind of a heads-up about using 3rd party stuff.

I always just thought it was spooky monster jail, the game.

2:42 PM
@NautArch For sure!

IMHO the best SCPs are the ones which are just strange machines or otherwise rather lighthearted

tbh, never played any of it, just know about it

@Carcer That's where I started, and then went "...oh wait" and noped on out.

the one which is the memetic virus that compels people to randomly redact completely innocuous information is my favourite

@Rubiksmoose voting to reopen so we can answer

2:44 PM
I'd love an RPG set around a lighthearted version of the core concept, with clear boundaries established.

user15026
@Carcer I wanted it to be that and then it rapidly stops being that, and it gets so...deeply unsettling for what it says about the worldview of the people making up the stuff

@BESW It's on my to-do list as a Maid RPG mini-campaign.

Every player brings in a picture or short bit of text that they think could inspire a subject for a one-session story, and the GM draws one randomly to use each session.
Use aggressive improvisational collaborative elements to make up the subject's qualities and foibles on the fly, it could be lots of fun.

@Ash yeah, there seems to be a certain kind of contributor for whom an SCP just isn't right if it you don't have to sacrifice 10 murderers a day to it or something

...maybe an InSpectres hack would be a good start.
Okay I really need to go to bed. ttfn

Good night

@NautArch I helped out with a mod vote :)

@Rubiksmoose I may post a message about mod votes and what happened here with @V2Blast. I don't totally get the point being made, especially because GOld badge users have the same effect with regard to duplicates.

Q: How does the Freedom of Movement spell interact with the "Move" action while grappling?

Wannabe WarlockThe question requires a two-part answer: Does a character affected by Freedom of Movement need to make a successful grapple check to use the Move action, or would success be automatic? If successfully using the Move action, is a character affected by freedom of movement able to move the grapple...

@NautArch Well I can't speak for all mods, but some mods will refrain from using their votes in all but the most obvious or necessary of cases and I think that is what V2 was getting at.

@NautArch Gold badge users have proven their knowledge in a specific area. A moderator may or may not have that same level of knowledge in that area, so a mod applying a close vote as dupe is actually less convincing than a gold badge user exercising that same privilege.

2:59 PM
@JohnP Well, in this case the Mod is also a gold badge for 5e. But I hear you on that.
I guess gold badges and mods can always opt not to vote and just put up relevant information and let others decide.

@NautArch One thing that I found very valuable to learn was that very few things are actually in urgent need of mod action. Though we still want people to flag issues even if they don't seem urgent.

So a mod acting immediately to correct something is not always the best course or the one we'll take.
@NautArch Dang, the user deleted the question a split second before I could upvote your answer.

@Rubiksmoose Is that purely for not having the appearance of overzealous mods?

sustainable community management

@Rubiksmoose Extremely questionable content, destruction of content, and threatened self harm. That's about it.

@Rubiksmoose Is it bad form to vote to undelete? I think this is actually good to have on here.

3:05 PM
@NautArch Mod can post a question, but bad form to undelete. If you think it is valuable, you could always post your own version of the question.

@NautArch That's certainly a reason. But I think the more compelling reason is that if I closed/reopened/fixed etc. every single post that I came across immediately it would mean that the community doesn't get to gain that experience that comes from managing it themselves. That way the community doesn't become dependent on mod intervention to function.
And you all do a really good job keeping things running around here which is wonderful.

How to make Windows 2008 R2 choke like an overambitious boa.
1. Select 20,000 1k files.
2. Right click->delete

3. Profit?

Is it one of those situations where you can go take a coffee or walk the dog and maybe it's done where you come back? Or one of those: Your instructions killed the OS ?

@Helwar Nah, I maintain some of the legacy systems that we have purchased from other companies over the years. One of our users requested an email change, and when investigating where that is located, I found a folder that has been faithfully backing up status reports since 2014. On three servers.

Q: What to do about undeleting this deleted question (10K only)?

NathanSSo, today this question was asked: https://rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/154969/can-the-warforged-integrated-weapon-trait-be-disarmed It appears to be about some 3rd party homebrew content from DNDGuide. It was closed as unclear, then reopened, NautArch answered with basically "we can't answer...

Oracle! Don't give me links that don't work!

3:55 PM
Hey I was looking at the planar oracle and it says "At 1st level, you must choose one Outer Plane with which you have an affinity. This choice cannot be changed. A planar oracle must take the following revelation at 3rd level.

Planar Resistance (Su): At 3rd level, you gain energy resistance 10 against one energy type associated with your chosen plane. At 11th level, your energy resistance increases to 20."
does that lock both level 1 and 3 revelations or only level 3? the way I read it it only locks 3 but wanted to double check before I start working on a build

@MageintheBarrel 3.5/PF/PF2?

pf1
sorry I thought oracle was pf only

It says it locks the 3rd level revelation. But the oracle chooses at 1st level.

okay that's what I thought

@MageintheBarrel A thing may exist in many different systems. That's why we need to know the system.

3:58 PM
just wanted to check cause just yesterday I interperated the unchained curse as making you unaligned

Planar Oracle isn't that bad a name/idea for an rpg in of itself, but it would probably be pluralized
